Is a The Passage part of trilogy? I know the second one is due out sometime this year. If I know a book is part of a trilogy then I usually wait for all three to be release and then read them back to back to back.

Hi Tay, and yes, this is a trilogy.

Erin (erinrae21) | 2 comments Just finished Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer , not happy I have to wait a year for the next book...And I just started Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs yesterday and so far it's really interesting and fun

Jane (flopsybunny) | 159 comments I have just finished and really enjoyed the first Edmund Crispin Gervase Fen mystery The Case of the Gilded Fly. I love Golden Age crime and this didn't disappoint.

Next I am going to read The Confession by John Grisham.

message 5156: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm almost done with Perfect Victims: Slaughter, Sensation and Serial Killers: An American Criminal Odyssey. It is definitely interesting, but I certainly do not share a lot of the author's opinions and I would have preferred if the entire thing had focussed on serial killers. I have no interest in hearing about political crimes, or murder for money.

Pete Morin | 61 comments Just finished The Detachment, my first Barry Eisler read. I thought it was superb. Torrid pace, very authentic, and an fine literary flavor to the prose.

On to Prime Time, by my Boston homey friend, Hank Ryan. Fifty pages in, and it already stands above a lot of the cozies I've read lately.

It actually came out last week. So you should be able to reserve it or buy it. It is very good, has some different characters but is very dark.

Denise Hartman (denisemhartman) | 10 comments It's so fun to see what everyone's reading -- I'm new and it makes me need to double my reading budget. Just finished The Fencing Master by Arturo Perez Reverte. Very serious historical piece with a mystery. Really enjoyed the character development and the 19th Century and degrading politics of Madrid, Spain that were the backdrop. I'm starting January Kills Me by Evan Katy seems like a humor read lite so far.

I liked The Fencing Master too, Denise. Welcome to the group and hang on to your TBR! (and your wallet, lol)

I love Arturo Perez-Reverte. He has no weak spots, it seems. I also really enjoyed The Queen of the South.

Jannene | 775 comments I just finished O is for Outlaw (Kinsey Millhone, #15) by Sue Grafton . I enjoyed this book. The background of Kinsey's first marriage was a twist. I felt sad at the end but love how she ties everything up in a bow. There is no guessing what happened.

The first part really hooked me but have gotten into a slower section, more technical and political/big business investigation wo will see how it goes.

Shawn Davis (shawndavis) | 46 comments I finished The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective, and I REALLY liked (appreciated?) it.

Now I'm reading How To Think Like a Neandertal, which I bought by mistake on my Kindle when I thought I was downloading a sample. Luckily, I am finding it absolutely fascinating. Then again, before the travesty that was The Land of Painted Caves, I had a serious love of the Earth's Children series. So maybe it's not a surprise that I'd find How to Think Like a Neandertal fascinating.

This one sounds interesting as I lived in Spain for 4 years in the late 60s/early 70s (military) and loved the country and the people.

I too thought the second was better than the first. The third was ok, in my opinion not as great as these two. I heard the forth is the best in the series.

The story is rather slow pace, the mystery is ok.

message 5187: by TK421 (new)

TK421 (willymammoth) I just put the finishing touches on my review of the mystery/thriller Stalin’s Ghost by Martin Cruz Smith. It’s part of the Arkady Renko series set in Moscow, Russia where the specter of the long-dead dictator still looms over both the political landscape and the psyche of the Russian people. I enjoyed it immensely!

Finished this one up last night. I liked it, gave it a 4 star rating ... probably 3 1/2 would be closer to exact, but I would like to read another one by this author and/or in this series, which rates a 4.

It's almost a cozy, plot revolves around a murder followed by a series of apparent accidental deaths, all summer visitors to a small New England town. I enjoyed the relaxed pacing and definitely appreciated a law enforcement officer that was sensible, intelligent and not an alcoholic, a drug abuser or trying to recover from some major life-time trauma.

message 5193: by Jane (new)

Jane (flopsybunny) | 159 comments I have just finished The Confession by John Grisham. It was very good but I think it has to be one of the most disturbing books that I have ever read.

Thank you! Getting stuck on a plane after having made bad reading choices is one of my biggest fears. After the Zombie Apocalypse, but before bad sushi. Definitely top five.

Good to know this one should work.

It's what I think of as a comfortable read, the kind I enjoy on a winter afternoon in front of the fire.

message 5197: by D.G. (last edited Jan 12, 2012 12:55PM) (new)

D.G. I'm doing a re-read in audio of the Agatha Christie books. I've already read the first books in the Poirot and Miss Marple series (I'm switching back and forth.)

I just finished listening The Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot, #2) by Agatha Christie . I enjoyed it a lot but I have to say that after listening to The Mysterious Affair at Styles (Hercule Poirot, #1) by Agatha Christie narrated by David Suchet, the narration of Links by Hugh Fraser was a bit of a comedown. I'm happy that Suchet will be narrating Poirot #3.

Now I just downloaded The Body in the Library (Miss Marple Mysteries) by Agatha Christie but I'm going to switch genres for a while so I may not get to it right away.
