Chris Griffith (CAGriffith) | 7 comments I'm in the middle of reading "The Viper Contract" by my buddy, Chris Broyhill. It's been very good thus far.

Libby Just finished The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder. A harrowing, deeply disturbing, but beautifully written mystery/thriller. Warning: it's dark, with graphic violence, and isn't for everyone. But I couldn't put it down. Three days later, I'm still thinking about it.

On the lighter side, I just started a short novella about Greyhounds and rescuing them written by thriller author Mel Comley. It's quite good! And she's donating profits to a dog rescue organization. It's A Dog's Life Mel Comley

Loved The Devil of Nanking, too. My favorite book by Hayder.

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Finished The Alpine Christmas last night. My first Daheim. It was good but took a little longer to suck me in than I'd like. I'm in the mood for more Lee Child so I think he's up next.

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Just started Bad Love downloaded from the library system. Not far enough in to this one to know how it will go, some of this series I like a lot and some are just "eh ... okay" for me.

I suspect this one may work for me because the author introduces the French Bulldog in this one ... always wanted one for myself, especially when I was doing the dog show thing.

Leslie | 130 comments Stayed up to 2 AM to finish Stephen King's 11/22/63. Whew! And now for something completely different, a little bit of chick-lit fluff, Jennifer Crusie's "The Cinderella Deal". Probably will read in 1 day, then my head will be ready for something more adventurous!

I'm reading an ARC of J.T. Ellison's next book, which is a new series character. You might want to give it a shot when it comes out (May or June, I think -- I can't remember.) I haven't read the latest Ellison book, but loved the first three.

I'm curious about how you find Sister. It's caught the corner of my eye but I haven't been able to get myself to pick it up yet.

message 5121: by Renee (new)

Renee (rys00) | 252 comments I am just finishing up Except the Dying. The possible villains are introduced pretty early and it seems everyone has a secret. In the last 75 pages answers are revealed with building momentum. It is kind of like that slow-motion moment when you see an egg rolling across the counter and then dropping to the ground--right before you realize you can't catch and there's going to be a mess to clean up. Fortunately, this is a fictional mess and all I have to do is close the book.

message 5122: by Jane (new)

Jane (flopsybunny) | 159 comments How do you think the Murdoch books compare to the Tv series? I quite fancy reading the books but I was told they were very different.

As for Sister, I did enjoy this but I think you have to be in the right mood to read it. Don't read if you need cheering up. :)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I just finished Sandstorm by James Rollins this morning. I definitely want to read more of his books.

I've started it a while ago and put it down to read other books. I have been told it was good and I have also read
Afterwards - Rosamund Lupton which I thought was good.

There's a TV series? What rock have I been living under. Wait... it's called "Murdoch" or somesuch and it comes from the BBC, no?

Thanks for the tips about Sisters also... good gloomy book. Got it.

I tried that book twice and just couldn't get into it. I got to page 50 or so and it still seemed like it was moving slow. When did you find it picked up momentum?

message 5129: by Danielle The Book Huntress (last edited Jan 07, 2012 03:41PM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Jannene, it definitely picks up momentum. I did mention in my review about how it took me a while to get into the book. I say give it a try again sometime.

I LOVED the Ghosts of Belfast! Well, maybe loved is the wrong word. Appreciated? Anyway, I thought it was tremendously well done. My husband really appreciated it as well, and we don't often agree on books.

message 5133: by Shawn (new)

Shawn Davis (shawndavis) | 46 comments I just finished Malice, but I'm still reading The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective. I really like it, but sometimes I need something a little less convoluted.

Dr. Samantha Owens is the protagonist. I'm only a quarter the way through, and so far, it's keeping me on pins and needles. The title is A DEEPER DARKNESS. I'm hoping to finish this weekend and that I'm in time for the quote she needs.

Wasn't this book made into a movie that is out now or coming out soon - I think it stars Tom Hanks as the dad??? If so, I didn't realize it was a book first....

I'm re-reading (again!) The Count of Monte Cristo. So good, and so much fun.

I'm also reading Solar, but it's not grabbing me. I'll wait a few more pages before I decide.

I have to finish these two before I start Mistress of the Art of Death.

LOVED Mistress! The follow up books are excellent as well.

Hugh wrote: "Reading The Capitol Game by Brian Haig and enjoying it very much. A different sort of thriller for me, and I welcome the detour."
Haig's books are great - but then, I really enjoy the tone.

Cindi (cindij) | 5 comments I am currently reading Sue GraftonV is for Vengence. I am about half way through, but for some reason it is a slower read ... I think in this book she jumps around from character to character and I seem to be havng a hard time keeping up with what is going on ... BUT I still love her books and Kinsey !!

Valerie | 46 comments Just started reading The Whole Truth (Shaw, #1) by David Baldacci by David Baldacci. 100 pages in and already hooked!

message 5150: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ | 438 comments Finished Breakdown by Sara Paretsky and it was another good read from Paretsky, although more of her political views made its way into this one. Now reading Vigilante (Shane Scully #11) by Stephen J. Cannell and The Bomber by Liza Marklund as well as an ARC of The Whisperer by Donato Carrisi and The Whisperer starts out pretty intensely with some very interesting characters.
