Just finished The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder. A harrowing, deeply disturbing, but beautifully written mystery/thriller. Warning: it's dark, with graphic violence, and isn't for everyone. But I couldn't put it down. Three days later, I'm still thinking about it.

On the lighter side, I just started a short novella about Greyhounds and rescuing them written by thriller author Mel Comley. It's quite good! And she's donating profits to a dog rescue organization.It's A Dog's Life Mel Comley

Just started Bad Love downloaded from the library system. Not far enough in to this one to know how it will go, some of this series I like a lot and some are just "eh ... okay" for me.

I suspect this one may work for me because the author introduces the French Bulldog in this one ... always wanted one for myself, especially when I was doing the dog show thing.

I'm reading an ARC of J.T. Ellison's next book, which is a new series character. You might want to give it a shot when it comes out (May or June, I think -- I can't remember.) I haven't read the latest Ellison book, but loved the first three.

I am just finishing up Except the Dying. The possible villains are introduced pretty early and it seems everyone has a secret. In the last 75 pages answers are revealed with building momentum. It is kind of like that slow-motion moment when you see an egg rolling across the counter and then dropping to the ground--right before you realize you can't catch and there's going to be a mess to clean up. Fortunately, this is a fictional mess and all I have to do is close the book.

How do you think the Murdoch books compare to the Tv series? I quite fancy reading the books but I was told they were very different.

As for Sister, I did enjoy this but I think you have to be in the right mood to read it. Don't read if you need cheering up. :)

I tried that book twice and just couldn't get into it. I got to page 50 or so and it still seemed like it was moving slow. When did you find it picked up momentum?

Dr. Samantha Owens is the protagonist. I'm only a quarter the way through, and so far, it's keeping me on pins and needles. The title is A DEEPER DARKNESS. I'm hoping to finish this weekend and that I'm in time for the quote she needs.

Blues in the Night a veryy good read, molly is jewish and a crime reproter who also writes true story novels. she reminds me of kinsey in the sue grafton series.

I think in this book she jumps around from character to character and I seem to be havng a hard time keeping up with what is going on ... BUT I still love her books and Kinsey !!

Finished and it was another good read from Paretsky, although more of her political views made its way into this one. Now reading and as well as an ARC of and The Whisperer starts out pretty intensely with some very interesting characters.
