Just read
It's always a good time reading one of her books. My first book of the new year, I read it in a day.

I finished The Reversal by Michael Connelly; the book is about the retrial of an alleged murderer - and Michael Haller is prosecuting this one instead of defending. If you like books with a lot of courtroom scenes and attorney machinations this is a good book for you. I liked it okay - 3 stars for me.
Just started a Tami Hoag mystery - Deeper Than the Dead. Hope its a page turner like her other books.Amanda

Thanks Kyle, I hope I do enjoy it - bet I do!!
Am in the middle of Louise Penny's "Bury Your Dead." I'm enjoying it--love the insights into Quebec history!--but recommend starting at the beginning of the series.
I'd been meaning to try her for some time. She's won just about every award in the mystery world!Kyle wrote: "I've heard great things about Louise Penny. Quebec history, cool. I think I'd enjoy the insights, too."
Sat down for a quick look at The Attenbury Emeraldswhich one of Santa's elves (Hayes) sent me and 138 pages later I looked up. Really enjoying it even if Jill Paton Walsh is not quiet Dorothy Sayers.
Kyle wrote: "Now I absolutely have to read her works. I've passed by her books a few times. Wow, seems I was missing out."Me, too!
Marjorie wrote: "Just finished C.J. Sansom's historical mystery, Dissolution, set in the reign of Henry VIII of England. Matthew Shardlake, a London lawyer and religious reformer and protegé of Thomas..."Hi Marjorie, the Matthew Shardlake series is great! You are in for a treat!
Colette wrote: "Marjorie wrote: "Just finished C.J. Sansom's historical mystery, Dissolution, set in the reign of Henry VIII of England. I'm actually reading it aloud to my wife and we are both enjoying it very much. Very glad to have "discovered" this author.

I read THE GENIUS and absolutely loved it. I agree, Jesse Kellerman is as talented as his parents, but has a slightly different voice and perspective (which is a good thing!) and his protagonists tend to be younger and not in law enforcement, which is another plus (I read a LOT of crime fiction, but most is with a cop as the hero, so I like the variety of adding a good crime thriller where the hero is an ordinary person, often flawed.)
Benjamin wrote: "Colette wrote: "Marjorie wrote: "Just finished C.J. Sansom's historical mystery, Dissolution, set in the reign of Henry VIII of England. Matthew Shardlake, a London lawyer and religio..."Hi Benjamin,
The audiobook versions of the Matthew Shardlake series read by Anton Lesser are also to be recommended if you enjoy books being read aloud!! Great to listen to on a long car journey!!

I'll add THE EXECUTOR to my list. Don't have it on my shelf, odd ...
Just finished The Bad Place by Dean Koontz a great great book, not one inch believable but what a rush. This is my second time to read it.
Marjorie wrote: "Just finished C.J. Sansom's historical mystery, Dissolution, set in the reign of Henry VIII of England. Matthew Shardlake, a London lawyer and religious reformer and protegé of Thomas..."Marjorie, I've found that the series gets better as you get into it.. Very interesting stories.

by Michael Connelly. Gave it 5 stars. Not sure what I'm going to read next."I read that one out of order but man that book was really good.
Cliff, thanks for the heads up on The Triumphs of Eugene Valmont. It's also available free on Kindle.
just finished
. It's my first book from this author. Though it's full of twist and turns it has too many repetitions which drains the intensity for my taste.
Kyle wrote: "I want to read 11/22/63. I haven't kept up with the newer King books. Let me know if it's a great one would you please?"I hated it and I'm a huge King fan. Just my opinion.

I agree on Jesse Kellerman. I find him to be better than his dad.
Gatorman what did you not like about 11/22/63? I have been reading views about the book and would value your opinion before I start it.

Oh, not at all. I'm just lazy, so I try to find books on Kindle first, so I don't have to do as much work. :)
Anne wrote: "Gatorman what did you not like about 11/22/63? I have been reading views about the book and would value your opinion before I start it."Anne, my posted review pretty much sums up my feelings about the book...

Won,t be reading that, I,m so annoyed . going to read The Long Walk again instead , hav,nt read it for years. thanks Gatorman.
My most recent read was Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon. I particularly loved the way she used the plot devise of key "clues" being in a language (variants of Celtic) that only some characters understood and could thus control the translation/access of the information for the other characters who are nominally the dominant ones. Interesting all around. Here's my review.

I read a Jesse Kellerman called The Brutal Art and it was brilliant but I couldn't find it listed. Perhaps they are published under different titles in the UK.
I tried a few books and couldn't finish them, then I tried Demonspawn - which was good (fantasy crossed with thriller), then a few books I couldn't finish, now I'm reading The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective, which I love. I got that recommendation from this thread. :)
I just finished reading
by
, I enjoyed reading it. It was funny, witty and I had a hard time putting it down until I finished it. Now I'm reading
by Aaron Elkins, so far its good.
I just finished
. I loved this book. It had a great story and I love how well thought out it seemed to be. I adored the characters and the conflict that they had to endure.
Jeanette wrote: ....Now I'..."Jeanette, I really enjoy the Gideon Oliver series by Elkins. I think they just get better. Another bone man.
I have just finished The Excursion Train by Edward Marston and the Seven Sleepers by Elizabeth Ferrars, I enjoyed both particularly the Ferrars which is set in Edinburgh in the 70's. I am now having a change of genre and I have just started Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett al though I am sure to be back to crime before long.
Jane wrote: "I have just finished The Excursion Train by Edward Marston and the Seven Sleepers by Elizabeth Ferrars, I enjoyed both particularly the Ferrars which is set in Edinburgh in the 70's...."Jane! Any book set in Edinburgh given a thumbs up by you has to be good. Thank you, I'm off to find the Ferrars.
Recently started The Stranger House by Reginald Hill. A bit of a departure (for both him and for me) but I'm told it's excellent.
Judith wrote: "Recently started The Stranger House by Reginald Hill. A bit of a departure (for both him and for me) but I'm told it's excellent."I bought this a few days ago but guess it will take some time until I am getting to this. still so much more on my reading shelf
Renee wrote: "Jane wrote: "I have just finished The Excursion Train by Edward Marston and the Seven Sleepers by Elizabeth Ferrars, I enjoyed both particularly the Ferrars which is set in Edinburgh in the 70's......"She has written approx 50 books not all set in Edinburgh although she did live here. Her books are mainly stand alone although I have found out she has also written a couple of series. I think most were written in the 60's and 70's - perfect for me. I really like when crimes can be solved without the reliance of computers and they are really good reads.
Finished an ARC of Blue Monday and loved it. Blue Monday Start of a new series and it was a suspenseful thriller with many twists, featuring a psychoanalyst as an aid to the police dept. Now reading Murder in Lascaux and am enjoying this descriptive book of the Dordogne region in France.
That series is actually one along with Donna Leon that I have on my list for this year. I have heard many good things on this site for both series. Thanks!
I just finished The House at Sea's End by Elly Griffiths, and I loved it. The protagonist is Dr. Ruth Galloway, an archaelogist/head of department at a fictional Norfolk university who is called to help identify skeletons found in the crook of a sea cliff. The plot had enough twist to keep me guessing, and the novel spends time developing both the main characters as well as secondary ones. It's the third in a series, and each one is a terrific read.
