sliknl (silkworm) Ok - A tanka...

Dull sleet-soaked feathers
shifting under coats of ice;
five black crows, bare tree,
a still life in ebony;
brothers, waiting patiently.

sliknl (silkworm) I like it sometimes as an alternative to haiku, because it is a slightly more spacious structure: the lines are 5,7,5,7,7. There is a brief but nice introduction to tanks in "Haiku in English," by Harold G. Henderson.

Thank you for the compliment. Nancy

Let's play a game. Join in on the end.

Here is a tanka.
One to think about, perhaps.
Just fooling around.

Haiku hangs not at all
on tradition, it's a game.

To master haiku,
one must always play within
the rules to win.
Haiku bigots abound.
Loose and fast within reason.
