message 1: by Ariana (new)

Ariana | 3 comments What do you do when you go and re-read a story you've worked on writing for a long time and realize it's completely and totally terrible?

message 2: by Laura (new)

Laura (xmagical) | 405 comments Scream in frustration, rip out my hair, and then go get a cup of coffee. Oh, wait. You meant seriously. Well if I actually did that I would find myself ripping out my hair way too often, so most of the time I'm just left clicking 'delete' and completely rewriting it...Except it sometimes ends up as a springboard for other ideas, so that's good... :]

message 3: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod
I laugh at how stupid it is. Then try to fix it or just scrap it.

message 4: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments Put it away :/
Or I try to rewrite it, but that doesn't always work for me.

message 5: by Tayyaba (new)

Tayyaba (Tayyaba1) | 191 comments I try to re-write it to make it better. But if that doesn't work then I just delete it (or rip it to shreds if it's on paper :D

Jordan, The Picture Magician (aka Probie) (thepicturemagicianakaprobie) | 2218 comments never happened to me.

message 7: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 19 comments I laugh and continue to write it because it is often enjoyable to write utter pooh.

message 8: by Allyssa (new)

Allyssa | 1 comments Trash it & start over, normally.

message 9: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay Keep the concept, but totally re-write it. I've changed my first chapter ten billion times! (And I still don't like it).

message 10: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
I publish it anyway.

Because that's my opinion on all my stories.

message 11: by Chante (new)

Chante | 5 comments I'm working on a story now that I plan on putting on goodreads when I've finished it, and I've had to rewrite stuff a million times. Usually I get really frustrated then close the document and stomp off to my bedroom where I listen to my iPod until I've calmed my nerves. :p

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (writers_soul) I just totally rewrite it. That happend with the book I'm trying to write, I never liked the way I started it to begin with, so I just started to rewrite it.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Some I throw away, but I often just say, "screw this, start over." Then I eat some skittles. Or an apple. Maybe some cheerios. Then I listen to my inspirational music which is probably only inspirational to me and has nothing to do with my stories.

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) Ariana wrote: "What do you do when you go and re-read a story you've worked on writing for a long time and realize it's completely and totally terrible?"

I've never had that experiance before.

Ariana | 3 comments Soda wrote: "I ask other people to read it, to make sure it really is bad and then read their facial expressions when they tell me it is utterly fabulous, then if a substantial amout of people hate it I do one..."

Which one of the two emo kids who end up as two non - emo adults, adopt a son who causes the two non - emo adults to meet again?

Haha, yeah.

message 18: by Cutter100 (new)

Cutter100 | 52 comments I rewrite it, wait a couple of years, re-rewrite it, wait a couple of years, then re-re-rewrite it...

Mandy Harmon (mandyharmon) | 10724 comments Marie wrote: "If it's something I've written recently, I stare at it for a moment, slowly put it away in a drawer, handcuff myself to the bed to keep myself from ripping it up, wallow in self pity for a while in..."

wow. deja-vu! i do that! like no joke! ;)

message 20: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (komikia) | 3 comments Lindsay wrote: "Keep the concept, but totally re-write it. I've changed my first chapter ten billion times! (And I still don't like it)."

that just happened to me. i'm trying to keep adding to the recent chapters, but i keep having to go back and change entire chapters! i just can't trash it like the others, i love the story too much.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Start over. Or destroy it. One of the two.

message 22: by Ky (new)

Ky (poeticshark) | 10786 comments Ariana wrote: "What do you do when you go and re-read a story you've worked on writing for a long time and realize it's completely and totally terrible?"

REDO!

That's what I'm doing right now. *sigh*

message 23: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Depends on how much bad writing there is. I do tend to re-write a lot of my scenes because my writing voice is still growing. So.. it depends.

message 24: by Tayyaba (new)

Tayyaba (Tayyaba1) | 191 comments Yeah it is, but then it's worth it in the end.

message 25: by ATL (new)

ATL (atl112358) Tayyaba♥♫ wrote: "Yeah it is, but then it's worth it in the end."

I don't know, I've never had a good rewrite

message 26: by Tayyaba (new)

Tayyaba (Tayyaba1) | 191 comments I meant after you rewrite it a few times, when it finally comes to your satisfaction.

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Soda wrote: "Ellen ♥ wrote: "Depends on how much bad writing there is. I do tend to re-write a lot of my scenes because my writing voice is still growing. So.. it depends."

That's a pain, re-writing, isn't it?"

It is a pain. Especially when you really like your story, but there are many parts that need re-doing. That's what has happened to me with Now It's Gone.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments If I like the plot I just... start over.

message 29: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Haha. Yeah but re-writing an entire novel can be a pain. But I love this plot (Immortality) so much that I think I'm re-writing it for NaNo. It was my first piece of writing :D
Have you had to re-write anything?

message 30: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments Well, right now I'm rewriting this fanfiction I wrote in 7th grade, becasue I still like the plot but not the writing. (it's on fanfiction.net. Even though I should probably have moved on from that a long time ago...)

message 31: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Ugh. I deleted my story from FF. But I still like to read them! Lol.

message 32: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments what archive were you in? I normally hung around the Lightning Thief.

message 33: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Huh? Ummm... I pretty much read all the stories that I like from my fav series. Lol.

My name: ellenfp

message 34: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5841349/1...

What series did you write for?

message 35: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Oooh.... Lol. Umm... I wrote a story for Twilight (shoot me, I know) and I wrote a song fic for the Mortal Instruments and the Gallagher series.

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments *shoots you* jk.

I haven't read any of the other two.

message 37: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Nah, I removed all of them. Lol. I don't write FF anymore. Just read them.

message 38: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments Yeah I stopped for about a year but then the forums became active again and pulled me back in. Plus I get more reviews on there then I do on here, so... yeah.

message 39: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenpenleysmith) Haha! I used to be like that with the reviews, but now I've just given up! I like writing my own worlds. Lol.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

I say keep it even if you're not fix it, when you're a famous writer your earliest writings will be worth the most, maybe not till your dead...but her your children can reap the rewards!

message 41: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Harmon (mandyharmon) | 10724 comments Grayce wrote: "I never trash crappy stories. I find them to be INSPIRING so that I write something that is actually decent, and not crappy. Lol. Unless they are really bad. Then they are gone. To the recycle bin...."

HAHA. me too!!

message 42: by Ameena (new)

Ameena Adel | 58 comments Ariana wrote: "What do you do when you go and re-read a story you've worked on writing for a long time and realize it's completely and totally terrible?"

thats happened
i think :P
i go mad
but i try staying calm
i let ppl read it and tell me wat they think
cause sometimes i might just have gotten bored from it
then if ppl like it it lefts my self-esteem and i continue writing
:)
:)

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

i just scream, post it and have my friends read it, for there feedback then re-thinknif its terible or not

message 44: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments Really? I hide it from my friends.

PyroLily ~Qui scribit bis legit~ (pyrolily) | 290 comments I rewrite and delet

message 46: by Natalie (new)

Natalie I shrug my shoulders and add on a ridiculous ending and turn it in. Ridiculous and creative things are what makes my teacher give out A's. (Not that I'm not a good writer, but that's what I would do)

message 47: by Annemarie, hi (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 3393 comments Mod

That's never happened to me... I just get writer's block and can't work on it for a month.

Maria [the clockwork creeps on useless lives] (mariachhile) | 8772 comments Mod
I sigh and throw it aside.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

I go oh crap, get embarrassed, and say 'how can i fix this so its not completely humiliating?? And do so! :)
