Jason Lilly Is there a discussion in this or...? If we're talking names and how they affect characterization, then I agree. Merridew has a very positive connotation, and the name "Jack" means "God is gracious". But Jack is probably the antithesis of gracious. I don't know if Golding carefully selected all of his character's names or just certain ones, but it is interesting to think about.
