Haven't read the Host, and I know you're not necessarily looking for vampire books, but CIRQUE DU FREAK IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joann The SOUTHERN VAMPIRE SERIES by Charlaine Harris it the perfect next step after the Twilight Series. I swear Stephenie Meyer must have read it before she wrote TWILIGHT. There are many similarities. The first in the series is DEAD UNTIL DARK. I have never been a vampire reader and really just liked the romance of Twilight. This series has romance and- FINALLY THANK YOU!!!- some sex- not the super graphic kind, but at least you get the AHHHH after all the build-up. There are six in the series now. The characters are richer and it's funny and scary. For adults and older young adults. An excellent way to break the Twilight spell.

Leslie Joann, I agree with you! I think Stephenie read Dead Until Dark, fell asleep and dreamed up Twilight using the premise and flip-flopping who can read minds. (Did you see the HBO series pilot-- a little bit more sex than the books really had in them).

Joann Yes, I did see the series and really liked it. I was suprised at how graphic some of the scenes were. I guess it's HBO and they wanted to hook an audience in the first few minutes and thought that was the way to do it. Unfortunately my daughter,15, also a Twilight/vampire fan, had to leave the room.

Lisa Joann, You nailed it. I'll back you up on the thought. No way there are that many similarities without someone doing a little reading (maybe at the pool during the kids swimming lessons). I'm so glad the Sookie books are getting some publicity with this show! They are great. I was not thrilled with the Jason sex scenes, but will watch next week!

Ilze Maybe once you've finished the "Twilight"-series, you can do the GoodReads quizz and come out tops: Most of the quizzers cannot resist questions about: T W ... _.

Becky I will say the sex scenes get more graphic as you move further into the series for the SOUTHERN VAMPIRE SERIES!

Jane A another book, you could try to read is bloodline series by Rachelle Meade and also the other books by this author.

I'll be honest, I haven't read the series, but have been following the show. I would imagine "The Vampire Diaries" would be kind of a similar read (easy, romantic, etc)

Maria ^^ VD is a terrible read.
The characters are nothing like the TV show; the writing lacks in everything.

I hated the first book I read. I belvie VD was published before Twilight - there is a reason it didn't catach on fire.
