Roswell High! discussion
Differences between the books and the tv show...

Well, from what i saw there's really a lot of differences between the books and the show..except, of course the books that are made as an "end" for the tv show...
My favorite character was Michael, and i liked Maria too..they are very, very different in the books..I will only "talk" about the High series for now.
Michael really is an a**hole, and Maria is just strange..they where my fav pairing, and in the books their relationship it's so very much different from the show..sometimes it looks like they're just friends..and Michael was very stupid..I don't remember a lot right now because i read them a while back, and i was so obsessed with Michael being a duche i never even realize max was blonde (i know, how stupid can i be?)..I don't know how much have you read until now, so i'm not going to say anything, i don't want to give you spoilers..
Gosh, i used to be so MEGA obsessed with the show, and the fanfic, it reminds me my awful high school years..eckk..they had a much more entertaining high school life, that's a fact!!!
I'm glad to know i'm not the only one to like the books, makes me feel least obsessed..hihi
sorry about the english, if there's anything you don't get it's because english it's not my first language...
good reads

By the way, your English is very good, even though it's not your first language. It's not mine either, even if I understand it perfectly since I'm a little girl.
Now about Roswell!
I started reading the fifth book, The Intruder. But I switched to other books since then.
In the tv show, I totally LOVE the Michael-Maria thing. They are my favorite couple. In the books, I like Maria, since she is weird, and Michael, I don't know. He doesn't know which girl he wants.
I got obsessed with Roswell in my first year of college. Now, almost 4 years later, I still love the show, and Michael-Maria. lol Those years were not bad, they just got better watching Roswell!
I liked the books I read... but it's so different, it's kinda sad...
It's nice to talk to you, since I don't feel so alone with the Roswellian world!
Later!

Glad to know i'm not the only one to appreciate Roswell.I tried to watch the show a while a go, and it was so nostalgic...I still like it even though it could be better, specially the last season. What's with that? They started to do things very differently from the books after Alex death (which, by the way, i truly hated...it), that made everything confusing...And Tess? Eck.. I don't even remember when or if she appears in the books..i ended up not reading all the books, i don't remember very well the one i read, and the ones i "read"- which means skipping boring parts...i know i shouldn't do that, but Max and Liz are even worst, from what i remember, in the books...
Micheal and Maria, yeah..Micheal in the books it's sometimes very stupid with Maria, and the Courtney part was awful to read..stupid boy hormones...
I though so too, about the sad part, the way the books feel...maybe because we saw the show first and everything it's so funny like, they use a lot of humour...in the books you see the characters feelings almost as your owns..I don't know, what i know is that it's cool to have someone to talk about roswell...hihi
bye bye

Sorry it took so long...
About the sad part, you're probably right. We saw the show first. I feel in love with the characters, Liz' scientific attitude (but not to much - not as much as in the books), Maria's humour (which I can't track in the books), Max's sense of duty/authority and Michael (I love everything about him in the show - from his lack of trust to his love for Maria).
More I think of it, more I can say I preferred the tv characters! The one from the books are drab. It seems to me the author wanted to write her books quickly, like if she wanted to get over it, like if it was a chore...
I don't want to sound as if I don't like Melinda Metz... Because if it wasn't for her, the characters I love so much wouldn't be impersonated by Shiri Appleby, Majandra Delfino, Jason Behr, Brendan Fehr and Katherine Heigl...
Oh and I liked what they did with Sheriff Valenti's and Kyle's character!
About Roswell last season... It seems like they streched the "juice" out of it... Wanted to make money...
I didn't like Alex's death. He shouldn't have died! The only thing I liked about it is that Michael stuck by Maria's and Liz's, when Liz thought he was killed by an alien (which was true).
I didn't like Tess. The actress was good though. But it screwed up every storyline. It screwed up Max-Liz and Isabel-Alex...
I have to go now. lol
To another time!

I agree with you, but it was fun to read the books anyways.. even if it's sad sometimes..
Maria is so different in the books, she's just sad and around everyone, specially Michael..and Michael..yeah..i have to say he's a douche...how could he like Courtney? How? tsk tsk...me likes Brendan Fehr much better... i mean..Michael in the show..silly me..
you should read the books that end the show..they have the show characters...and they keep the plot..and the end, even if i didn't liked it that much, was way better that the one in the show..
There's the list:
Loose Ends by Greg Cox
No Good Deed by D.A. Stern
Little Green Men by D.W. Smith and K.K. Rusch
Shades by Mel Odom
Skeletons In The Closet by Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin
Dreamwalk by Paul Ruditis
Quarantine by Laura Burns
A New Beginning by Kevin Ryan
Nightscape by Kevin Ryan
Pursuit by Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin
Turnabout by Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin
If you know them, ignore it..i don't have all and i didn't read all the ones i have, yet. And they aren't in sequence, they skip episodes and seasons, the last ones are after the 3 season, i think.
my english it's weird today, sorry, i'm tired
your native language it's what, French?
i'm assuming, because your from Canada, right?
sorry if i'm wrong..
bye bye
à la prochaine

Alex, I loved what the show did with the Valentis too. (But, just FYI, I loved writing the books. ;) )
One new scene I really loved was in the very first episode where Max, Isabel, and Michael watch the re-creation of the crash and you can see on their faces how they are feeling something so different from everyone around them. Loved that! Wished I'd thought of it!

Alex, I loved what the show did with the Valentis too. (But, just F..."
hi..
this is strange..in a good way..
i have to say that thanks to your books i was a much happier teen..(wow , my english just got even shittier --')i was so healthily obsessed with roswell, especially micheal and maria...bad boys..you know..in real life they suck, but we can dream..or read about them..
i wish they had made the tv show a lot more like the books, i hated all that stuff about alex death..
but i really like the 2 of them..it was such a cool thing to watch and then read..if only i had know of the book sooner...rrrrr..

Roswell brought a new theme to books/shows and movies. Many authors got some ideas from the books and the show. the entire love triangle between Max Kyle and Liz.
The microscope thing that they had at the beginning of the show it reminds me like the book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Edward in the classroom with Bella peeking through the microscope, i think that's what it was. Edward's personality was inspired by Max's character. they both are serous more grown up.
and the book "I am number four" The sheriff and his son the popular student. Have to read "i am number four".Kinda like Kyle and his father the police officer. It just brought a new beginning to these teen shows.
Roswell is still number one. I didn't know how good it was until I started to watch the show.

First, Liz's last name and family history. I was surprised she had an older sister that died from an overdose.
Second, Max's looks. I was stunned to learn that he has blond hair and blue eyes in the books.
Third, Maria didn't have a brother in the show.
Fourth, Maria with aromatherapy... Not quite...
I've seen more than this, but it's late and I have to go to work in the morning, so I'll be back with more differences later.
Please I want to know what all of you think of these differences and others you might think of!!!
