SOLVED. 70's kids book - lazy boy has machine to get him ready [s]

I've looked high & low for this one! It is a book from the early 70's about a boy who is too lazy to get up and get dressed in the morning. It is heavily illustrated and the art has a vaguely Sendak look to it. He falls through the book/machine that tips him out of bed, washes him, brushes his teeth, puts on his clothes and feeds him breakfast (scrambled eggs and bacon I believe). Then the machine goes awry or maybe he accidentally gets tipped out of bed head first and it all goes wrong. The main imagery is that he is falling through the floors of his house as the machine gets him ready for school in the morning. In the end he has his toes full of scrambled eggs. Why did this book make such an impression??! Thank you for any help!

I can't believe it. I've been trying to think of the name of this book or find it for so long now. I kept searching for books illustrated by Sendak or Tomie dePaola. Thank you! I found this post by searching "children's book about a breakfast machine".
