Amna Deschain (thegunslinger) | 7 comments I keep wishing that someone would make a 7 parts dark tower epic that makes the Lord of the Rings trilogy look bad, but then I remember all the things they will have to be cut out of the book and how hard it will be to include all the pieces that add up later on in a way that doesn't make the movie look so 'rushed'.

Most importantly, I can't think of a single actor fit to play Roland.

What do you think?

There's a rumor out there that JJ Abrams and the producers of Lost will be filming DT. With that in mind,

Roland - Josh Holloway (Lost)
Susanna - Zoe Saldana (from Star Trek)
Father Callahan - James Cromwell (played the role in the Salem's Lot remake)

I heard rumors that Christian Bale would be Roland

message 4: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I will shoot myself if Christian F'ing BALE is cast as Roland.

Gah!

message 5: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I could just hear him using his "Batman" voice the entire 7 films.

O_o

When the people in the white coats come, I'm the one screaming and shaking and clawing at the walls in the corner.

message 6: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Josh Holloway wouldn't be my first choice, but with dark hair, maybe. He's got the walk down pat, I'll give him that.

Christian Bale? Definitely not.

Timothy Olyphant if he were older. Maybe they could add sun wrinkles to his face.

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I think Josh Brolin would be good.

I am very intrigued by either Josh being Roland. Brolin would be scarier though...

message 9: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I think Josh Holloway is too pretty to be Roland.

But Josh Brolin would be fantastic. :D

message 10: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Ha ha! I don't find Josh Holloway at all pretty, but that picture (if it's Brolin) is excellent! I'd vote for that.

message 11: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) He's too pretty to be Roland. I don't think that he's PRETTY, just not nearly rugged enough for Roland.

message 12: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) And the picture I posted is of Josh Brolin. :)

message 13: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments You think Olyphant won't work? He can look so mean. I wish I could find a picture of him as Bullock in the same sort of pose as your Brolin picture. I'm going to. Give me time:D

message 14: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) No... not really. I recently saw him in Hitman and I didn't think that he did "serious" well... But then I haven't seen Deadwood, so I can't really say.

message 16: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Maybe... I think Brolin would be better still, much as I love Olyphant. :)

message 17: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Becky, as much as you and I agree at times, I can't see Brolin as Roland, primarily because he's just not that good an actor, IMO. I can't think now who on earth could comprise that weary, intelligent, and distrustful aura that Roland carries with him, as he carries his trusty gun. I don't think they'll be filming it, though -- although either J.J. Abrams or Joss Whedon would be ideal.

message 18: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) No, it's unlikely that they would actually make it a movie... And if they did, I don't know if I could actually bring myself to see it. LOL

I think that Brolin could do it though, as well as anyone could. I like him. ;)

It's funny, but Clint's early pictures were the exact ones that came to my mind when I was trying to describe the character of Roland - If time were fluid, yes, Clint Eastwood (around the time of his spaghetti Westerns)would be absolutely the perfect Roland!

message 21: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 84 comments I can't imagine Roland with dimples, so for me Josh Holloway is out. And yes, Clint would be just perfect, maybe too young from TGTBATU, but more like he was in Unforgiven:

message 22: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments Aside from the dimples (I agree with you on that) -- It seems to me that Josh Holloway just has too much of a sense of humour -- whereas Roland does NOT!!

Josh has the wit that would work for Eddie Dean, but doesn't look like that character to me. He's probably not young enough either.

I still think Zoe Saldana would be a great Susannah.

Of course, we'd want Uncle Stevie to play himself in his own cameo.

message 24: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I think Zoe would be a good Susannah, but I pictured her a little "beefier". She can do fierce AND sweet very convincingly, though.

message 25: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I kind of picture this guy as Eddie Dean. Not perfect, but as close as I get right now.

Ick... No.

message 28: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Your crazy! I just watched an episode of that show and he would be perfect!

*ducks*

message 29: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) What show? But no, it doesn't matter... that guy is *NOT* my Eddie.

And we can't forget, HOT....

As far as the Eddie guy? No. I agree with Becky. He doesn't look the part.

But to be fair, often a picture doesn't do an actor/actress justice. For example, I've seen Jewel Staite pictures online or in magazines for years and never thought much about her. But then I saw her in Firefly and became a fan within about five minutes. She has such personality, which brings everything else out.....

message 33: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments OMG Chris, Jewel is the cutest thing ever, but only when you see her in motion. Pictures do NOT do her justice, and her voice just adds to her allure.

message 34: by Chris , The Hardcase (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 1169 comments Mod
That's exactly what I'm talking about...

message 35: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) OK... OK... I have looked at other pictures, and I will agree that in certain scenarios he may, possibly, ALMOST have an Eddie-ness about him.

*twitch*

message 36: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Oh yes! That feels like a huge victory! You really need to see him in "action", though. He can be snarky one minute and genuinely sweet the next.

message 37: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 701 comments i still see Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) as Eddie Dean...maybe it's the experience playing an addict.

I could swear that there was a thread on this before and I can't find it?? ?? And YES I want to see a movie sooo bad!

message 39: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 84 comments I also think Zoe would do well as Susannah, but both the guys mentioned for Eddie don't seem right to me (although that's just from their photos, which is limiting) - I'd rather go for someone like Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun - slick, good-looking and knowing it. Just can't think of anyone who fits the bill!

message 41: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Zoe would be excellent for Susannah but none of the suggestions for any of the other characters fits.

Roland is a toughie, the actor has to have some humour about him but be able to carry a stern stance without being emotionless. Roland is anything but emotionless. Very subtle maybe. I've seen Vigo Mortensen suggested and he's definitely versatile enough for it and can clearly pull off rugged based on many roles.

I think with Eddie most of these guys are just too young or young looking to play him. i know he's not very old but I can't see him as teenish. I've seen James MacAvoy listed. Not a bad idea.

Saw this great suggestion on another site:

Walter O’Dim: Willem DaFoe although I think Lance Hendrickson could also do this one.

Jake seems almost impossible to cast

message 42: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) I've been thinking on the cast of this movie for a long time. Seems we started this on another thread, but I can't remember where. Oh yea it's on the TV/MOVIE site.

message 43: by Madferrit (new)

Madferrit | 15 comments Oh no!! i would hate to see DT made into a movie it, no one could do it any justice!
The story is far too complex to condense for the big screen- meaning a hell of alot being left out.
I feel we would all be left disappointed.

message 44: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) | 64 comments Alas, if only Clint Eastwood were still as young and he was back in the days of Josey Wales! I think he'd be the perfect Roland. While he's not exactly how I pictured Roland when I read those books, he's pretty darn close!

message 45: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments He is exactly who I pictured as I read! Actually, Clint as Rowdy Yates on Rawhide which I loved as a kid.

message 46: by Madferrit (new)

Madferrit | 15 comments It does actually mention in the book that Clint Eastwood looks very similar to Roland (cant remember which book but wasn't the 1st)it would be the natural conclusion, he'd make a better director nowadays.....

message 47: by Dung Beetle (new)

Dung Beetle (dungbeetle) | 79 comments Jess, it breaks my heart to think that someday they’ll make this movie and Clint won’t be in it. He’s the only possible Roland for me.

I’ve posted this idea before, and I don’t know that many people will agree with it, but I think Steve Buscemi would have been a wonderful Eddie. He can be so likable and funny, but he can also scare you and he has giant brass balls. (At least, the characters he plays do…)

I love Buscemi but i don't think Eddie looks like him at all.

Alas i think most young actors would make the film a teen movie and lessen the plot too.
