1/4 way into year-how are you feeling?

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) I feel pretty good about the number of books I have read so far this year. I love to read & it has been a welcome change to be challenged to read other genres from those I was more prone to read before joining GR. I just finished #40 Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #3) by Laurell K. Hamilton. On to #41....

Jessica B | 88 comments Three months down and 26 books read. I am not in a position to read 144 books this year but I do think I am going to set a personal record. Which is awesome... if only I didn't have to work and go tto the gym, I could get so much for reading done! :)

message 103: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo No not King. It's just the Harlequin type. So it's romance. So it's a fast read for those times you want to read something you probably will finish in a day. I don't read kind usually too scary for me. I've tried one or two of his and just weren't for me.

ok . I have read a few harlequins before.

message 105: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I was lucky I got 2 books finished today. So got my 12 books in for march. Now I can go back and try and get close to finishing one of the other books I'm reading. 44 books for the year so far.

message 106: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresainohio) I made # 42 this month, this was an up and down month, either the book was so good I couldnt put it down and read in 24 hours or it dragged on for a week. I read 14 this month, mostly because the kids swam 4 days a week : )

message 107: by TeresaFL (new)

TeresaFL | 24 comments I didn't think I'd make 144 when I signed up, and I still don't think I will, but as of last night I'd finished 23 books in 3 months and last year I only read 52 all year. So, I'm reading more. I'm not sure if the challenge is doing it or the fact that I gave myself a treat last month and bought a Kindle so I'm reading more because of that. And because a friend has turned me on to a series that I'm devouring. Those 2 things combined with not watching as much TV and going to bed early because I've been so tired from all kinds of things must be helping my reading total. (Speaking of which, I'm off to bed to read and get some sleep!)

Fantastic! At this rate, you'll blow last years total away by mid-summer.

message 109: by Susan (new)

Susan I just finished my 46th book, so I am fairly confident I will finish the challenge. I have made a mixture of easy reads and some harder reads that take longer, and have found that works for me.

message 110: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) audio books are a help aswell can be listened to whilst doing other things

message 111: by Julie (new)

Julie | 171 comments I am finally beginning to get caught up after only reading 6 books in January and 6 books in February!! It feels great to be at 36 now and ready to get myself back on track!! I love that I have been able to move out of my reading comfort zone and read books by authors that I have never considered before!!! :)

message 112: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Just finished my 50th book. I can't believe it. Sat all day down in the living room reading couldn't put the book down. Now I have 2 books I have to write up in my book journal finished the other one last night.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) I just finished book #44. I cant believe the number of books I have read so far....

message 114: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) I m just about to start by 45th book

well done all

message 115: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments If I can get to #48 before the end of this month, I'll be happy. If I can keep up 12 a month, I'll be ecstatic, LOL!

message 116: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Flanagan | 224 comments i can't believe I'm at 41... I kept Cartomancy on my list because I read 400 of the pages, just couldn't drag through the rest, but even then, 40 books is more than I imagined I'd have done. Guess in this challenge being perpetually ill is a bonus.lol

message 117: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Finished another book last night. So have to write that up here yet.

message 118: by Maicie (new)

Maicie Kelly wrote: Guess in this challenge being perpetually ill is a bonus.lol

Too funny. Makes me want to go lick the handle on a grocery cart and catch something that'll keep me immobile for a few days.

I'm reading Perdido Street Station. It's a hefty, hard to read book that's going to set me back but it's fascinating.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments I liked Perdido Street Station but hear The Scar is his best work.

message 120: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Finished another book this morning. Part of me wants to start something new but another part of me says read the books you already started. 52 books for the year 8 for the month. What am I doing wasting reading time online. i already was online earlier this morning.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Jordan (jordieheartsbooks) | 37 comments I am failing hard :-p Go big or go home right? Hahaha. I'm hoping now that I've gotten unpacked and in the new place that I'll have loads more time to read.

Vicki | 6 comments After a marathon J P Beaumont weekend I reached book #145 for the year.

congrats another person completed!!!

lets see how much you can do for the year-whats your normal total?

Jordan good luck and keep at it

message 125: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 6 comments Thanks! This is the first time I have tracked the total number of books. My new goal now is 365 or a book per day.

message 126: by Jen (new)

Jen | 287 comments I didn't think I would be able to do it, based on how much I read last year, but I'm a bit ahead of the challenge so far (about 50 books to date). I think what's changed most, and what's keeping me on track, is the different mediums I'm using to "read" my books. Never before have I listened to audio books or read e-books but using these different sources I can have 3 books going at once and actually keep track of them all. Plus, I can "read" even when walking to work, when I'm pretending to work, and in my free time at home.

message 127: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) I have listened now more to audio on mp3 or cassette in the car

message 128: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm slowing down I haven't finished anything in a few days and today I was out until almost 2pm then online. So only read 3 pages while waiting in the car this morning for something to open. And I know the books I'm reading at the moment I will not finish fast. Okay have to stick to one book and try and get though it and stop the jumping around between 3 current books.

message 129: by Julie (new)

Julie | 171 comments I am feeling exactly the same way Donnajo! I have a few books going and I am not anywhere near finishing any of them... I was on a roll, but it is that time of the year that my teaching and my graduate work are getting a little crazy!! Reading time is pretty limited... :(

message 130: by Tonya (new)

Tonya I am feeling pretty good, I just finished my 45th book. We just bought a new house and it has cut down on my reading time tremendously. I'm not complaining however...lol. I think I will finish the challenge, especially if we get moved soon.

message 131: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I am still behind. I am working on books #30, #31 & #32. I am 16 books behind and hope to catch up at some point.

message 132: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) I am working on 47,48 & 49 at present so feeling confident but this month has been slow. Lucky I was a head o start with.

message 133: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I stuck with one book with a few hours yesterday and made good progress I'm going to try and finish that one up today before I start the library book I"m picking up. I probably have 80 pages but they will go fast. It seems when I'm on a roll with zipping though books I can do it for awhile then suddenly things slow down. maybe this time it was because I read so many top rated books in a row then suddenly I wasn't. Now the library book even though usually James Patterson goes fast with his short chapters they still might take me more than a day or 2. unless it's another book that I forgot I put on reserve which is possible.

message 134: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments 145 Vicki? You are my HERO. :o) I'm only on 124 myself. But I didn't get a lot of reading done in Feb--it was just a bad month because I had way too many other things going on. And this month is also a slow month--working on lots of costumes for my grandkids for a convention we go to the end of May ( http://www.balticon.org/ if anyone is interested.)

message 135: by Tami (new)

Tami Harris | 22 comments I'm only at 20 books today, so I don't think that it is likely that I will make the goal. However, I am definitely reading more than I have in the past and I love it. I have always loved to read, but never made it a priority until now and it seems to be rubbing off on my kids, which definitely makes me happy!

message 136: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Finished another book two days ago and half way though Worst case right now. So hopefully will finish that up tomorrow. I did read a 30 some page book about a beagle that got lost at the shore in august and they found him 98 days later. The family wrote a book like he was telling the story of everything he saw and did. It's not really a children's book. Since it's writing on all the pages. but still only 30 pages.

Tami thats great!! I think that is what the challenge is really about reading more then you would

message 138: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Well, if I can get two more read by the end of the month, I'll be on track and barely squeaking by, LOL!

message 139: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I finished Worst case but since I passed it on to my sister already and she's reading it I'll wait until I update my listing until I get home since I wrote all the info down before I left on friday. Now back to fern michaels. I'm hoping the weather is nice again tomorrow and not raining like it's supposed to be so we stay down here longer. I got alot read in the books yesterday and last night but read a big amount today. Sat in the sun and read.

message 140: by Kari (new)

Kari | 24 comments I'm doing pretty well. I'm up to 70 something right now. If it weren't for audio books, it would be about half that though.

message 141: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I ended up starting one of those code red Harlequin books I had around. It seems good so far and I'm only in 25 pages. I had to run out to see a new baby girl cousin that was born yesterday at the hospital so now I can get back to reading. so far 10 for the month and 54 for the year. I'm slowing down. But it's still better than last year and that is good.

message 142: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I'm on numbers 23, 24, & 25 right now, which definitely is not as far as I'd hoped to be at this point. Not bad, though, considering I only read 56 books last year.Like many of you, I will have a lot more reading time in the summer, so, realistically, I think I will at least reach 100 books for this year.I am thinking about trying to focus my goal more on pages read, though, since this would help me get some of my longer books done instead of just the short, quick ones.

message 143: by Pam (new)

Pam (pammylee76) I'm pretty sure I won't make it since I'm only on 30-something. But it has been fun. The time just seems to get away from me - there just isn't enough time in a day! Oh well, I'll keep chugging along until December!

message 144: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) don't give up things may change and se it as a target that will help you read more

I am on 54 or so

message 145: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Daniel I have 47 done so far so I am feeling pretty good about acheiving this goal. It looks like a lot of others are around this same amount too.

message 146: by Kellyyyylynne (new)

Kellyyyylynne Well I definitely won't make it to 144 books by the end of the year at this rate but I am excited that I have finally opened up to the idea of listening to books on my IPhone and have been enjoying it. It definitely gives me the opportunity to read more and has opened up a world of books I wasn't that excited to sit down and read but listening to them has been great. I am enjoying the challenge and even though I may not reach the end goal I am thrilled with the books I have read so far.

Yes the adion is great and does allow you to

1) "read" more then you would normally
2) Books that maybe you would be hesitant to read

message 148: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments Not good, but hey, I still have time.

message 149: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I haven't been able to get any books done in days. Should I be online no probably not I should be reading. I'm reading Case Histories by Kat Atkinson with a online friend who is doing the audio, I'm reading Fast Track by Fern Michaels, The Women I'm still doing for the book club in Border's tomorrow night only up to page 96 on that. If I don't go tomorrow night I'll probably never finish the book but the time I put in it already is such a waste. So if I go maybe it will motivate me to continue with reading the book. Also reading But Inside I'm screaming by Elizabeth Flock. Two books that should normally go fast and isn't and two harder books that are slower reading.

maybe all the reading here reading there is not allowing you to get into a book.

Maybe time to cut out a few books and concentrate on a couple before moving on!!
