Roseann | 185 comments This was fun!

My final grand total posted at 5:37pm PST is--

7 Books
1,717 pgs.
I didn't keep a strict clock, but I figure about 19-20 hours of reading.

I also added my little "flair" to the challenge. I always have either music or tv going as background noise, so I decided to play movies that had some kind of a book/play/writing theme.

I watched--

JULIE & JULIA (2 BOOKS IN ONE)
84 CHARING CROSS ROAD (BOOKLOVER)
SOMEWHERE IN TIME (PLAYWRIGHT)
MISERY (WRITER)

When I didn't have films going I listend to various soundtrack and tried to keep up the "literate" theme with titles like "Pride & Prejudice" "Sense & Sensebility" and "Much Ado About Nothing".

Thank you to all of the cheerleaders who kept me going and a GREAT BIG THANKS!!! to Alth for making this possible.

"See" you all at the next read-a-thon, time to pass out ;-).

message 5: by Valorie (new)

"Jekyll & Hyde" was the next on my list. I'm going to start reading it as soon as I buy something to eat. Hope you're enjoying it!

message 8: by Susan (new)

Susan I didn't get as much read as I thought, but I did finish one book, and am halfway through another.

Number of books completed
1."Casting Off" by Nicole Dickson, 269 pages
2. 1/2 of "The Fiction Class" by Susan Breen 165 pages
Total pages read: 434

Number of hours spent reading-
I'll be honest, I really didn't time myself. Probably about 5 or 6 hours.

Longest reading stretch- Probably 2 hours

I'll admit I didn't spend as much time as most of you. But it felt good to kind of waste away the day by reading and sharing with all of you!

message 9: by Tiff (new)

Tiff (utbooklady) | 65 comments My personal goal was to read as long as I could and try to make it to 1,000 pages. I didn't quite get there, but I still had a blast trying!

Number of pages read:667
Number of hours spent reading: 12
Longest reading stretch:6 hours

I read:
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker

I might have read more but the second book was dragging a bit. Not my usual type of book and hard to completely focus on it. I was also trying to squeeze in reading around sleep (pregnant ladies need sleep) and my daughter's activities (gymnastics and a birthday party). I did have a great time though and will look forward to doing this again.

message 13: by Jamie (last edited Mar 27, 2010 07:17PM) (new)

Jamie | 21 comments I'm not that good at keeping track of time (a fault that was aided and abetted by my falling asleep on the couch at one in the morning); so, the hours are estimates at best.

It's a very good read so far. I especially enjoyed the introduction by Vladimir Nabokov in this edition, not sure if it's available in all the copies. :)

Thanks for the heads up about the intro! It's not in mine as my copy is in an anthology. I'll have to track down a proper copy at some point.

message 25: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (luvbug) Grandson fell out of a tree Saturday morning so we spent most of the day at the ER. He is fine but I didn't get near the reading done that I had planned.

I was able to read 312 pages.

210 pages Fantasy in Death by J. D. Robb (I was reading this book when read-a-thon started)

102 pages Last Scene Alive by Charlaine Harris (New author for me, fairly good so far)

I was hoping for more...but maybe next time.

Afsana (afsanaz) summary of March Read-a-thon

As I couldn't start till 7.30am saturday 27th march I ended my read-a-thon on 7.30am sunday 28th March

I read in complete:-

1)Misgivings Pages 343
2) Heart Attack pages 340
3) I, Alex Cross pages 374
4) Listened to Frankenstein By MAry sgelly (2 hours)
5) Death Of A Blue Movie Star- partly read 180 pages of 323

So read completley 3 books
Listened to one audio book
Total Pages read: 1237

Total hours read is harder to say as I stoped to feed and deal with my daughter and eat but didn't really have breaks. though throughout time I was reading had to keep chatting with my daughter while she played but aways had book in hand reading as I did

Also when putting her to bed

So easier to say 6 hours not reading -four hours sleeping

message 30: by Victoria (new)

Victoria My final count was:
36 Arguments for the Existence of God: A Work of Fiction 27 pages
The Crimson Petal and the White 38 pages
The Girl Who Played with Fire 86 pages

Total pages read: 151

Expected to do better but my cold and low attention span held me back.

Yeah, I fixed it, thanks =D

message 32: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I read 2-1/2 books, which doesn't seem a lot. I read about a little over 800 pages. But I didn't last 24 hours - 22 hours and 15 minutes. My eyes literally blurred to where I couldn't read anymore. Then I slept 12 hours. I'm not sure physically when I'll be able to do this again, but in some strange way I enjoyed myself.

Stacey's All Booked (staceysallbooked) Okay, I learned that Saturdays are not a good day for read-a-thons for me. But I did get some reading done. I began Harlan Coben's Caught, but did not finish. I plan to finish it today. Thank you all for the cheer-leading and thank you to the moderators for hosting this read-a-thon. I plan to participate a lot more next month.

Number of books completed: 0

- Longest reading stretch: 4hrs 45mins

message 34: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (hawkstar) | 21 comments Alright, I suck. After I crashed (having been up for 26 hours straight by 2am here) I slept most of the day, and only read for a few hours later that night. I did end up finishing the book I started yesterday, though. I think I read for... Three extra hours? I won't count it though.

Books completed: 0
Pages read: Paper Towns by John Green: 110/305 pages
Hours read: about 4

I am definitely going to participate in next month's though. I'll try to avoid staying up all night the night before, haha.

message 35: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 137 comments I did stay up for the entire 24 hours, I had to do the mom thing a few times, so I was not reading the whole time. My day ended up ......

69 pages - Doomsday Can Wait (finished last couple chapters)
304 pages - The Bride Fair, and
97 minute audiobook - Stranded.
198 pages Midnight Angel (about half done)

- Number of books completed: 2 completed / 2 partials
- Number of pages read: 571 pages
- Number of hours listened to: 97 minutes
- Number of hours spent reading: about 18 hours
- Longest reading stretch: about 3 hours at a time.

This really helped me read a few that I was not sure I would get to by the end of the month because I am a slower reader, I am so glad I did it - next time I think I will sleep, I don't think I retained much I read from the last 4 or 5 hours of it. lol

You do know that Last Scene Alive is like the 7th book of that series. You have missed a lot - if this is a new author for you, some of the book might have made more sense if you had read some of the previous books.

message 39: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Congrats to everyone. Anything that helped the counts get higher is a help I think. I'm sorry I didn't check in but I did stay offline more and did read Lisa Scottoline's book this weekend and some of the chamberlain book and I think for me to read as much as I did at the shore was the goal. I could have read more since it was windy outside. But had some errands that had to be done and a walk each day. I hope to be able to do it the next time. Yet I have to say when I do have a weekend home and I get in the reading good book mode then I can do it the whole day without any problems and late into the night.

Catching Fire - 391 pages
