SOLVED. Abused girl runs away from home, returns decades later [s]

I read this book in high school so it's at least ten years old. Set in the 60's I think.
A girl (I believe her name was Ann) is raped regularly by her uncle. She tries to tell her grandfather (Ethan?) but he doesn't believe her. She runs away, I think to Haight Ashbury. I don't remember much about what happens then, but toward the end of the book she returns home for her grandfather's funeral (I think). I actually remember a line from that scene, where someone sees her and says, "Who is that woman? It looks like someone took Gail [the girl's sister] and polished her up."
Been trying to find this book for years. Please help!
