Jess (jessartisan) His head's not on fire or anything. ;) He does have 113 tattoos that disappear when each corresponding evil soul gets sent back to Hell though.

message 52: by Phoebebb (new)

Phoebebb Yeah if you mention shows on here please let us know if they are still on air, available to rent the season and/or what network they come on because some of these tv shows sound really good =D

message 53: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) Brimstone was on from 1998-1999 - 13 episodes (which was a bummer). Sadly, I don't think it's been released on DVD so far.

IMDB info:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165564/

One of the forum posts there has a link to watch the episodes online.

message 56: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 46 comments I did like Townsend better than Cruise as Lestat, unfortunately the movie was kindo of lame.

message 57: by Diana (new)

Diana (missdi) | 19 comments I do remember The Kindred. I loved it! The reason it was only on for one season is because Mark Frankel (Julian) was killed in a motorcycle crash. It seems to me I remember seeing the books by the same name at Barnes & Noble too.

I also liked Witchblade (aired on TNT for two seasons) based on the comic book. It too was cancelled; this time because the actress who played Sarah had to go to rehab for alcoholism. What is up with these actors!!?

message 58: by new_user (last edited Aug 05, 2008 11:58PM) (new)

new_user Hey, everybody. I've seen the Blade movies, and I didn't really think much of them. I was expecting Underworld to be another cheesy Hollywood flick like Dracula 2000 (Why did you do it, Gerard?), but I actually liked Underworld. She makes a good vampire, who would have thought? Plus, the tone and colors, etc. were also right.

I barely remember Interview, but there were two I really liked: Wolf Lake, which was unfortunately cancelled. It came out before the supernatural wave. And I'm embarassed to say, but The Covenant. Yes, the scripting/acting was so-so, but it was well worth it to see Steven Straits smile. Whew. I've been meaning to see Skinwalkers, but it seems a little iffy.

message 59: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jen421) | 32 comments The Covenant was terrible!!! Yes, Steven Strait is pretty to look at, but no one in that movie could act their way out of a paper bag. The writing was terrible, and the plot was sub-par. Did I mention the excruciatingly crappy dialogue? Good grief!

message 60: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Somebody already probably mentioned Moonlight but I liked that show pretty well. Of course it was cancelled after one season because every show I really like gets cancelled. I've watched Supernatual a few times but never really got into it. I also liked Tru Calling and will occasionally watch Ghost Whisperer. I wish there was a fantasy TV channel so these types of shows had their own venue.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) jennifer- i agree the convenant is not a great movie i think i liked it for the eye candy. those guys were hot. I've watched it several times just to drool over the guys. :)

message 62: by Diana (new)

Diana (missdi) | 19 comments Don't know if anyone is aware of it, but HBO is coming out with "True Blood" this fall (premieres Sept 7, 2008). The series is based on Charlaine Harris' southern vampire series (Sookie Stackhouse).

I don't get HBO, so anyone who does will have to let some of us know how it goes.:)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Suzann- Did you know that Kindred has been coming on Chiller. I had never heard of the series until I started watching this station. It's okay I watched a few episodes.

Diana- Yes I know about the show the Sookie Stackhouse group is raving about TrueBlood. I can't wait I'll be recording the first episode since I'll probably be out partying that night

message 64: by Diana (new)

Diana (missdi) | 19 comments Now I'm gonna have to go back and read all the Sookie books before I can even try to watch any of the series! They're all on my To-Read list anyway.

What is Chiller? Is that a cable station?

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Diana- from what I hear you'll be safe in reading just the first book for now. I think each season will focus on one book. Yes Chiller is a cable station . I don't know if the channel numbers are the same in each area but if you have Direct-TV it's on channel 257.

message 66: by new_user (new)

new_user Lol, Jennifer. Yes, it was terrible, but Steven...

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Seriously I think convenant had a good premise but even if it was a good movie. I wouldn't have been able to get pass the eye candy. I mean I've watched sky high numerous times just to see Steven and Taylor Kitsch was the real and only reason I watch Friday Night Lights( the TV Show).

message 68: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) The Covenant was pretty damn bad.

I liked The Craft and I liked The Lost Boys from the 80s.

message 69: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) I loved the Lost Boys when I was younger. Haven't seen it in years - maybe I should pick it up sometime. Young, vampire Kiefer. Rowr!

Ranata, I like your new pic! :)

message 70: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Thanks, Theresa.

You get Kiefer and Jason Patric. I absolutely loved him with his long dark curly hair!

Watch it again, it's awesome. I was scared as a kid but I loved it now.

message 71: by Phoebebb (new)

Phoebebb I've seen parts of Lost Boys but I've never watched the whole thing

message 72: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I loved the lost boys and even had the soundtrack. There's a scene where they are down on the boardwalk and there is a bare chested guy playing the sax. He was Tina Turner's sax player and so hot! Great song too.

message 73: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Phoebebb, you should see it just for Jason Patric. I swear, the long hair on some guys in the 80s WORKED. Kiefer was creepy hot. Nothing like Jack Bauer at all! LOL

message 74: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments Have you heard about this new HBO series based on Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse vampire series?

http://www.imdb.com/features/fall_tv_...
HBO
True Blood
Cast
Anna Paquin ... Sookie Stackhouse
Stephen Moyer ... Bill Compton
Sam Trammell ... Sam Merlotte
Ryan Kwanten ... Jason Stackhouse
Rutina Wesley ... Tara Thornton
Nelsan Ellis ... Lafayette Reynolds

With the invention of synthetic blood, vampires no longer need to feed on humans and have begun taking their place in mainstream society. They're still fighting for acceptance, and the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps has not exactly put out the welcome mat - save for Sookie Stackhouse.

Sookie is a waitress and a telepath whose mind is flooded with people's thoughts every day, and in a place like Bon Temps, her ability only serves to make her feel like more of an outsider. That's only one reason she immediately forges a connection with Bill Compton, a 173-year-old vampire whom she meets at the bar where she works.

HBO has done genre programming before ("Tales From the Crypt," "Carnivale") with varying amounts of success, but opening the vampire coffin invites a completely different and highly enthusiastic kind of viewer. Among them, no doubt, will be fans of the Charlaine Harris novels upon which "True Blood" is based.

Said viewer may also expect a little more bite than the drama's first two hours offer in order to commit to a full 12-episode season, let alone pony up for an HBO subscription. Others who recall the fun and edge woven throughout executive producer Alan Ball's previous HBO series, "Six Feet Under," are likely to pine for a little more depth than "True Blood" initially provides. That is not to call it a failed effort; the story is interesting, and each episode's built-in cliffhanger has the potential to create more than a few addicts. So beware, and if you're so inclined, be patient: It may take a few hours for the plot's engine to heat up.

Premieres 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7

What do you think about it?

message 75: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Joseph, I'm looking forward to it, but it'll be awhile because I don't have HBO and have to wait for the DVDs to be released (next year?).

message 76: by Phoebebb (new)

Phoebebb I don't have cable/satelite so its needless to say that I don't have HBO either lol. I've been really considering getting it just to watch that show but during fall semester I'm not going to have time to do much of anything. Including posting in groups on goodreads :o(

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Aww Phoebebb I hope you drop by at least once/twice a week/month. I'll miss you.

message 78: by Diana (new)

Diana (missdi) | 19 comments I don't have HBO, but I just found out that my cable service will offer it with their ONDemand feature...and at no cost! I should be able to download and watch it at my convenience, so anyone who has cable but no HBO ought to check it out.

message 79: by Kat (new)

Kat | 16 comments I also loved The Lost Boys as a kid/teen... and owned the soundtrack. :) Did any of you know that there was a recent sequel done? Corey Feldman is actually in it (trying to revive his career?). I haven't seen it yet, but it's on the list of things I have to see, no matter how painful I think the experience might be.

message 80: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 21 comments I would suggest Sanctuary on SciFi Channel. It's Friday night at 10PM. The 2 hour movie lead in was last Friday and now just the hour series.

message 81: by new_user (new)

new_user I don't think I've heard of Sanctuary, Pamela. What's that all about?

message 82: by Amie (new)

Amie (amiestuart) | 1 comments Pamela! *slaps forehead* I completely forgot! I hope they repeat the movie!

message 83: by Kati (new)

Kati (katikatnik) | 37 comments I would say that the best urban fantasy series ever is Supernatural on the CW. It's actually urban fantasy - demons, witches, zombies, angels etc. - it's not about who sleeps with whom, no romancing at all. Just two brothers against the world. Which is a-awesome. It's my favorite series on TV right now, period. I mean, I love shows/books about brothers and the fact that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are gorgeous men, helps too, of course ;)

Other than that, I used to love the old series Poltergeist: The Legacy. Another great urban fantasy series!

Both SPN and P:TL have this dark and gloomy setting, usually it's night, there's rain and fog and it just... feels creepy.

It's too bad that lately, all the preternatural series on TV are paranormal romances: sex, romance, love stories. Erm, no thank you. I want zombies, ghosts, killing stuff, action in general! And that only Supernatural delivers these days.

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

Fringe is a good series, but I would classify it as Sci-fi more.

--KatiKat, I couldn't agree with you more. Supernatural is fantastic. I love the relationship between Sam and Dean. I am watching season 4 on dvd now. Some of the eps weren't to my taste, but overall, what a great show. Castiel is super hot. I love that actor who plays him, Misha Collins. Yummy, angel hot. He reminds of what I think John Taylor from the Nightside might look like in a White overcoat. This is the only show I watch on CW.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 237 comments Shannon, I agree with you about Supernatural. I thought of Dean and Sam when I was reading Nightlife.

message 88: by Bookworms (new)

Bookworms | 10 comments Well, the most movies I have seen in this genre are mentioned.

Blade 1-4:
The first was very very good, but the others, oh no!

Underworld 1-3
I saw only the first and second and loved the dark atmosphere. Kate Bekinsale was very good as Seline. I like this two movies very much, the third I don't know. As I heard that this is without Kate, I don't watch it.

Bram Stokers Dracula
Oh yes, a very very good movie of the book with a lot of stars. Keenu Reeves, Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins - all good characteres. I like this movie.

Van Helsing
Well, a good movie with Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale. But this actor of Dracula was realy realy bad and the female vampires, too.

Interview with a vampire
Well successfull for a literary adaptation with very good actors. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt (I like Tom Cruise as Lestat and Antonio as Armand), very good.

Circus of the Damned
No, what a bad movie regard to the book. I don't like this movie.

Well, I think I have watched some more movies, but I can't remember at the moment ;-)

Sapphire (SapphirePhelan) | 10 comments An American Werewolf in London. There's a sequel, An American Wrrewolf in Paris, it's so-so but the first one is considered a classic now.

message 90: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 35 comments Did anyone see Blood Ties on TV? I really enjoyed it. Last I checked, Lifetime was still showing re-runs. It is based on the books by Tanya Huff. Vicki is an ex-cop, now PI due to eye issues. She sees something supernatural and ends up working with vampire, Henry, and needing the help of her ex-partner, Mike.

Kati (katikatnik) | 37 comments Diane wrote: "Did anyone see Blood Ties on TV? I really enjoyed it."

Yup. I bought the whole series on DVD. Amazon.co.uk had it for 9 pounds R2! I loved Henry :)

LOVED this show!! Which is probably obvious since Henry is my avatar! I have boycotted Lifetime ever since they didn't bring it back. They could at least have done a movie to tie the ends up.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) There is (was?) a series on the BBC called 'Being Human' which has a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost living together in a flat and trying to be accepted by society and leave their various problems behind them. The first season was pretty cool. I'm not sure if it's continuing or not.

message 94: by Kati (new)

Kati (katikatnik) | 37 comments blackrose wrote: "I'm not sure if it's continuing or not."

It is. S2 finished a short while ago and AFAIK, it was picked up for a 3rd one. Also, SyFy is preparing the US remake of the show, execs are Jeremy Carver (writer for Supernatural) and his wife (exec for Privileged).

LOVED this show! Season 2 should hit BBC America this summmer, I'm hoping.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Thanks for the info, both.

I wonder why SyFy feels the need to remake it. Haven't they learned that American remakes of British shows almost never work as well as the original? (Yes, completely biased and unsubstantiated opinion, I know. :> )

I couldn't get into it at all. LOVED the pilot, really loved it but they changed so much, including actors, for the series that I really struggled and then gave up.

message 98: by Ana (new)

Ana (anacnunes) I loved the 1st season is "Being Human" and can't wait to see the 2nd.

Blackrose, you're not the only one who thinks it's completly unecessary to make a remakee of a brit show. And I'm not from either country, so I'm not biased.

message 99: by Starling (new)

Starling | 153 comments In the past some remakes of British shows have been HUGE hits in the US, so it isn't always true that remakes have been a waste of time and money.

I'm note sure which show SyFy is remaking.

As I said, SyFy is remaking Being Human. And I agree, some remakes lasted longer on the US TV than the originals in the UK - like Queer as Folk. I usually like the US version better, don't know why. And Jeremy Carver is working on the remake of Being Human and he's a great writer!
