Hi! I'm Lisa. I'm a married with one teenage daughter elementary school librarian from TEXAS. I spend every day promoting the joy of reading and working to create lifelong readers in my students and fellow teachers. My interests other than reading are live music and photography. I have recently gotten involved with book blogs and wikis that are getting me back spending time reading for pleasure myself. In a short time, my "to read" list has grown dramatically, thanks to all my reading friends. I'm so excited to be a part of this group!! Looking forward to reading and discussing new and old books. Nothing is a coincedent on this show...
At least, not in my opinion.
Lets have a little fun here and list some of the connections we have noticed ...

For one: One the first episode of Season 4, we see Hurleys flashfoward. In it, he and jack are playing Horse. Jack gets an H and an O for missing his two shots, and they end the game. H is the 8th letter in the alphabet, O is the 15th. hence-- 815.

Also in the same show, Hurley admits to his vision of Charlie that he was frightened when he saw him standing in the gas station next to the ho-ho's... H O again... 815.

Lets see how long we can keep this post alive by taking turns listing a coincedent or connection we noticed that others may have missed! How observant are we as viewers???

I read the Pretties teaser at the end of Uglies and now have the book on reserve. But I must admit, if it doesn't get out of the shallow Pretty dialog soon I won't be able to stand it.

I'd like to read them, and I intend to read them, but I have so many books on my to-read list, and I know that I"ll be adding more, and many of them take priority over this series, so it's possible that I'll never end up reading them.

Back in the second season, as Ana Lucia led the tailies through the jungle, Bernard was using a radio and got thru to someone. Bernard asked the person who he was, and he said he was a survivor of flight 815. Bernard said 'IM a survivor of flight 815'..and Ana Lucia shut off the radio thinking it was the others tricking them. However -- It was really Boone who got the little yellow planes radio to work, right before the plane fell out of the trees and killed him.

Don't be ashamed, Kay! I have known what one was for just a few monthes. At our monthly librarian meetings, they have been telling us about blogs, wikis, social sites, all the web 2.0 things that todays kids experience. Before that, I couldn't have told you either :) . It's kind of like a blog, and kind of like a forum. People can go in and post and edit material...Wikipedia is one. They are fun! I created one for a book club I am doing with the staff at my school since we were having trouble meeting with all our varied times.

I am not sure if I will read the sequels. The end of Uglies really made me want to read on. It was a good cliffhanger. But I have a lot of other books to read as well and this comes way at the bottom of the list. I felt bored sometimes in this book... like the journey to the SMOKE. I thought that went on a little too long. But the book was still enjoyable and I will pick up the sequels eventually.

I got Pretties as soon as I finished Uglies...and I plan on reading Specials...but a week has passed since finishing Pretties and I'm wondering if I really liked it enough to keep on reading.

i've already read both Pretties and Specials. i didn't like them as much as i liked Uglies - but i do plan on finishing up the series with Extras, hopefully within a week or two.

I read Pretties and Specials right after I read Uglies, and I enjoyed them. I really liked how he ended the trilogy, that's all I'll say. I did read Extras, too, which was alright. Tally wasn't the main character, but when she entered the plot, I got pretty excited.lol

Kami, same here! When I read Extras, I thought it has a different 'feel' with the rest of the trilogy. But when Tally came with her friends, I was thinking, "Yeah, finally!" and start looking for the other smokeys in the scene, I mean who came with Tally, etc. I got pretty excited, too! *lol*

I see that you guys keep calling it a Trilogy, so is Extras like a new series since it is the forth book?

Well, Specials is the last book where Tally is the main character. Extras still deals with the same era, just a different location, plot, and characters. Tally and some others do appear in it though, which ties it with the trilogy. I guess it is just a...well... an extra book for readers to enjoy if they liked the trilogy.

ok heres another one , we alluded to this in some of the other posts already:
Christian tells Vincent to wake Jack in the missing pcs ep "because he has work to do".
Taller Walt tells Locke to get out the ditch when Ben shot him "because he has work to do".
Mr. Friendly tells Micheal he cant die yet "becuase he has work to do".

Hmmmm...... Three important messages, or just the writers favorite line?

You know Lori you pointed out something pretty interesting.What work is to be done.when they're put together like that it gives more importance to those words.what's the work.It seems to me that it has to have more meaning then just the tasks at hand.

Yeah, sometimes I don't understand authors. They call their book trilogy, and then they make some more. A bit confusing for librarian, but exciting for readers, though :)

Sometimes what happens in a situation like this is that there is a planned trilogy but after the second book is out, the series becomes so popular that the publisher asks the author if he/she can write another book in the same vein or the same series.

So after calling it a trilogy for two years, and planning only three books, a fourth book is added. But the original plan was for a trilogy, and the term stuck. :)

Or maybe, the author, like Piers Anthony, had early trouble with math and doesn't understand that the tri part of trilogy means 3? How many books are there now in the Xanth "trilogy"? 20-something?

Hi Lisa! Nice to meet another librarian. Did you create your wiki on Wikispaces? Did you apply for the free Plus Plan wikispace that normally costs $50.00 a year but is free to K-12 teachers? It's a great deal, and no advertisements!

I've been teaching workshops and seminars to local teachers and school librarians about Web 2.0 developments and how these things will affect libraries and how they can be used to enhance teaching. It's mind-boggling and exciting and I love it! It's unbelievable how many free tools are out there. GoodReads is part of the Web 2.0 movement. We're on the cutting edge, folks!

My understanding is that this is a trilogy of 3 books. that fourth book is not considered part of the trilogy; it's just that some of the characters from the trilogy have parts in it.

Meghan, what are the three sets of Star Wars? I thought there was just two?

I'm not sure what it's called, but there is a set that is suppose to come after the Star Wars series. I think it deals with the children of Luke (who marries some girl, who also is a found to be a jedi) and Leia and Hans. I don't know much about it so I could be way off (story-wise).

I must admit I loathed Tally throughout the book that it was tough for me to finish. I thought the last few chapters made it worth the the first several hundred pages. I'm scared that 'Pretties' might be the same way. I am curious to see what happens with Tally and Shay and the Smoke I don't know if I'm willing to commit the time to it. Maybe.

I really was hoping that the book would end in a more self-contained way that wouldn't require me to read the other two books, but having finished last night I guess I am going to read the next ones. I just can't stand the idea of Tally becoming a pretty!

I read all the sequels and I think Specials is the best so far! I love the ending so much. Towards the ending I feared it would be another one of Scott Westerfeld's awful/sad/left longing for more endings, but it wasn't, and it made me real happy after that. XD Extras was ok, but I think I preferred Tally to Aya. =P

I read Pretties and Specials. I have Extras from the library but it hasn't grabbed me yet so I moved on to other books. I enjoyed the series but thought Uglies was the best.
