First Reads books
Suzanne it was so cute. A good book for advanced first and second grade readers. Some humor they might not get. The illustrations are colorful and cute. There were several directions the moral of the story could go. A preschooler would probably sit still while it was being read. I rated it 4 stars only because the humor was a little above kids I thought.
Just won my first goodreads giveaway book - very excited! I won a copy of Bozo Sapiens: Why to Err is Human. Since my primary philosophy about human beings is "give us a chance to screw it up and we will", I'm actually quite interested in reading this. Very pleased.
I just won A City of Ghosts: Stories by Betsey Philips. Seems like a perfect Halloween-ish read so hopefully it comes soon.
I've entered for thirteen of these (three still open) and no wins yet. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'll have to keep entering. Only problem is my TBR list doesn't seem to be getting any shorter :)
Can I say when it rains it pours.... holy moly... I won a book way back when and it just showed up, , and then I won another and this week still another.... My new books are Me, Myself, and Why?, The House on Oyster Creek, and Solomon's Oak.... time to read
I have won 3 free Good Reads and several from Librarything:
I loved House of Fallen Trees -- great horror/ghost story, I highly recommend it. I could not even get through The Secrets of Newberry. And I am about to strat The Boys from Little Mexico.
From Librarything I won:
Again was enjoyable. I could not finish Twice Dead. And Moonstone (no not Wilkie Collins!), I didn't request, I was just given -- and I don't want to read it.
I just won my first book! It's Girl, Stolen and I'm excited to read it. Today is also my anniversary so it's been a good start to the day so far :)
I just found out I won The Paris Wife. I am looking forward to getting my copy, this book intrigued me.
Just found out that I have won my fifth book in the past year, Why? Because We Still Like You: An Oral History of the Mickey Mouse Club by Jennifer Armstrong. I confess, I entered for this one primarily because my sister is a huge Disney nut. Will definitely be passing this one on to her when done.
I just found out I won The Lady's Slipper and I'm now anxiously waiting to get it. I've won once before and hadn't entered in awhile but saw some that I thought I'd really like about a week ago so I entered. Will be starting this one as soon as it gets here!
I have just won Tropical Rainforests. It looks like interesting and should be fun to share with my children.
I have one twice now! I never win a darn thing! EVER! I won ..-Stranded by JT Dutton
-Love, Charleston by Beth Webb Hart
I got my first reads win, Bozo Sapiens: Why to Err is Humanthis week, and just got started on it. I think it's going to be really good - I'm actually completely fascinated by the premise, and it seems to be well-written and clear so far, with lots of humour.

I just finished: Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So: A Memoir
It was an extremely interesting memoir of Mark Vonnegut's life including how he manages his daily challenge of mental illness. I wrote a review in the review section if you're interested.
Stephanie, I got the e-mail that I won Sep. 12 and got the book around Oct. 7th, so yeah - right on the 4 week mark, actually. (and I live in Canada and it was coming from the US).
I won I'm Outnumbered!: One Mother's Lessons in the Lively Art of Raising Boys which ended on Sept 6th...it is now Oct 10th and have yet to receive it. My first win only took like 2 weeks, so who knows. Was anybody else the winner of such book and received it already? It could be that I live in an apartment complex and sometimes things get lost between here and there (delivered to the door and it was stolen, delivered to the office but I never received notification etc).

I guess I got lucky this time around!
One of my books took forever to come in... I had all but given up hope of ever seeing it. I just finished reading Solomon’s Oak, a first impressions read by Jo Ann Mapson It is book that touches the soul quietly, but lingers like a soft mist. The book is about loss and struggles. How much is too much? When does grieving leave? What is the cost of trust? Is anything really too much? Glory, Juniper and Joseph need healing. The tree, Solomon’s Oak is the setting for the three of them to find themselves and maybe each other. I liked it the realistic characters and the changes each wrought in each other. It is a book to savor and enjoy, not to rush through. It is a book that makes you think about what is important and to count your blessings. Thanks BookBrowse.
I just won Outside Wonderland. It's my first First Reads win and I can't wait to get it. It's so exciting to win something.
I haven't won any in awhile! I went on a spree last year of winning a bunch! I think my luck has run dry.
I received my free copy of The Paris Wife It is a lovely copy with deckle edging . I will start it soon . I have to read one book before I delve into this one.
I just won A Skeptic's Guide to Writers' Houses. I'm looking forward to reading this--different from other things I've been reading lately.
I just received my copy of Tropical Rainforests. It is beautifully illustrated and my husband was gazing at it covetously!
Do you all add them to your TBR list when you enter the giveaway? I was wondering if that helps win? Because I usually only add books if I have them in my possession or I know without a doubt I'll buy them because of the author.
I only add books that are in my possession, and have won four books so far. It does seem to help if you write a review, even if only a couple sentences.
Thanks Heather. Yeah, I write reviews. They're pretty clear about that. I've won 2...maybe 3 so far, but nothing in quite a while. I just couldn't remember if I had added those titles to my TBR, and if now I wasn't, if that was a factor. Good to know I'm not the only one who does the "in my possession" thing. Thanks again!
I add them to an exclusive shelf I made called wish-list...that way its not on my TBR, but I can check at the library for them and stuff like that
Lahni wrote: "I won one and didn't add it to my TBR list until after I won it."Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. So I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm just a loser. Ha ha ha ha!!
I just won Night Road by Kristin Hannah (as well as 199 other people) and won The Transformation of Things by Jillian Cantor from LibraryThing.
I just won Hint Fiction: An Anthology of Stories in 25 Words or Fewer. I have no idea what to expect, so I guess I'll find out when it gets here. At least it shouldn't take long to read!
I won The Way of Kings and read and reviewed it. I wouldn't have read it if it hadn't been free, and on the whole, thought it was way too much hype about not much at all. All it did was introduce the characters and the world. The characters were very thin, and the most developed ones were trite and well worn. The rules of the culture were never explained and were frustratingly arbitrary. I was glad I didn't pay for the book!
I just won my first Firstread!!! I am so excited, like a kid in a chocolate shop. I won Starter for Ten: A Novel by David Nicholls. I can't wait to get my hands on it.
I just won Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch. It sounds like it might be similar to Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, which I enjoyed. This is only the second time I've won a giveaway, so I'm really looking forward to receiving it :)
Thanks Heather l! Starter for Ten: A Novel just arrived but I am still in the middle of Peony in Love so it will have to wait a wee bit.

Well, color me surprised. Received notification this morning that I won another GR FirstReads book, The Bite Before Christmas by Heidi Betts. That should be an interesting Christmas read!
Stephanie wrote: "I just won my first book! It's Girl, Stolen and I'm excited to read it. Today is also my anniversary so it's been a good start to the day so far :)"i won this book as well!!! have you read it yet stephanie??? i really enjoyed it would love to know what you think

Yes, Carol, please let us know how it was. I entered for that book, but didn't win.
I had an interesting thing happen to me. I have won 3 or 4 First Reads books and always do a review. Shortly after I posted one review, I got an email from the author saying she appreciated what I wrote. I thought that was such a nice thing to do! Now that I know that people really do read the reviews, I'm more careful in my reading and thorough in my praise/criticism. I think maybe that's why I keep winning.
