ISBNs on ebooks are tricky.

Ebooks often share an ISBN with a "dead tree" edition (or pretend to do so, see the end of this post). When doing a general internet search I found quite a few sources linking the ISBN you gave to a paperback edition, while this ebook store lists other ISBNs for the pdf and epub editions (http://www.diesel-ebooks.com/item/978...). We have one ebook edition for Dead Over Heels in the database already, but that shows another ISBN as well (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/77...).

If you'd like we could add an alternate cover edition for your ebook. Just out of interest, where did you get your ebook from? Those "suppliers" also often list the ISBNs (and those are often not the same of those listed in the ebook, because the ISBNs shown in the book itself are often just the same as the paperback).

I got it from the library (downloaded from website) and the library states the ISBN is 9781436243438, which does not match any of the GR books. Should I add another edition?

Do you have the epub or the pdf version? Because as far as I could find out it looks like the epub has the ISBN 9781440630927 (we have that edition already in the database: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/88...) and the pdf has the ISBN 9781436243438 (which doesn't exist yet in the database, so it would have to be added).

My source for this information is the publisher's website: http://us.penguingroup.com/nf/Book/Bo...

If you'd like, I can add the missing edition for you once I get home later this day. But of course you are free to add it yourself, if you want to and I'll then combine it for you with the other editions.

Bea Isabell, I added the library edition last night so it will need to be combined.

This is the cover to add:

Thanks.

I added the pages to the first one, the second already has that page number assigned.

Oops! When I checked the edition on my SRC Summer shelf, I found that I had selected the wrong edition. I have now corrected it, and the pages are there. Thanks.

message 564: by Bea (new)

Bea ISBN 9780312646288 has only 240 pages + 2 blank pages and an acknowledgement page labeled 243. It does not have 256 by any stretch.

Bea I just added the audiobook edition for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. ISBN 9781781102565. Please combine it with the other editions.

message 568: by Bea (last edited Jul 04, 2012 03:39AM) (new)

Bea I have a question about covers. Usually I download them and then add them through this thread. However, GR is not letting me do the download function.

Can you add a cover from another edition if it is the same?

For example, the Kindle edition of Letters In Cardboard Boxes has the same cover as the book. Could a librarian copy it and add it to the Kindle edition?

If so, then please add the blue cover to the audiobook edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, ISBN 9781781102565.

Thanks.

message 569: by Isabell (new)

Isabell (purzel) | 246 comments You can take the cover from an edition to add it to another just by saving the cover from one edition and then upload it again for the other.

I did that for Letters in Cardboard Boxes.

I also added the cover for the Harry Potter audiobook. While I was at it I also added some other missing information to that edition. The edition had already been combined with the rest, so somebody else seems to have noticed that before me.

message 570: by Bea (new)

Bea Thanks, Isabel. The uploading function was not working when I sent my previous posts.

Thanks for the help, Isabell. Regarding the Dark Warrior cover, I got that cover from the writer's website. I have not yet read this book as it is still on my TBR list. So I am content to let the book be coverless until I get around to reading it.

I'll gladly add your cover then, when we have a particular edition to which I can attach the cover (sometimes the covers vary between editions and though this doesn't seem to be the case here I'd rather not add the cover to an edition on the basis of pure guessword from my part).

It would really help if you could provide a valid source for the cover (a scan you took yourself or picture from author's/publisher's website would be ideal).

I'll see if I can find a cover, but not knowing what it looks like won't make the task easier.

I did a bit of digging and found another cover (green) at the publisher's website which I have added to the book.

Please let me know should this not be the correct cover (having no idea what the cover is supposed to look like I had to guess).

Cassie | 133 comments Could one of the librarians fix this just because it really bugs me? I read WLT: 2a Radio Romance by Garrison Keillor for the challenge a few weeks ago. It is NOT "WLT: 2a Radio Romance," it should just be "WLT: A Radio Romance." I think it's just that edition, but it's a weird anomaly.

Amazon (or any other reseller) is not a valid source for book data. The best source is always that you yourself have the book in hand and can provide the information from your physical copy. Acceptable is also data that comes from the author or publisher's website or from libraries (I often refer to WorldCat for page numbers, because they are usually quite reliable for that; Amazon often gives a wrong page number).

The additional problem with your book is that it is a Kindle edition and those don't all have actual page numbers. Do you own that Kindle book? If so, you could check in your reading device if it shows the page numbers, if so just let me now the number and I'll add it to the edition. If not, the edition doesn't have a page number and in that case none should be added to the Goodreads entry.
