:::applauds::: dude, white dreads are the surest ticket to seeing me wince in public. A world of NO! I still remember my first white faux rasta encounter... he used to steal Hagen Daz pints from our kitchen deep freezer at summer camp. Privileged little weasel shit of a human being. When confronted he claimed that he "deserved" it because he and his fellow counselors had the "hardest" job at camp. Seeing as I was the head prep cook I put him to work immediately triple mopping the floors and scraping the ooze out from under the giant mixer. He wasn't very peace and love after that anymore. Ahh ha ha ha ha ha. Choice.
You know the Avocado bashing in this group is really starting to sicken me. It seems Avocados are the last group it is acceptable to bash in this country, which is ironic since this was founded as an Avocado nation.
Cashews and avocados are high fat, but they don't have cholesterol. Only animal products have that.Plus, the fat in cashews and avocados is the good kind. I guess it stays runny instead of hardening in your arteries?
Not so much hate in me today - it's sunny and warm, and the outdoors beckons.
But, here's one: I hate how some of my pants have too many fastenings - a button outside, a button inside, a zip, AND a drawstring. What the hell? Sometimes, I'm in a hurry to get them off, and the drawstring gets knotted. Grrr...
Are sure about that Jackie. Peanut butter has cholesterol. There's no animal products in that, is there?
Peanut butter has fat, yes, but actually does NOT have cholesterol."Over 75% of the fat in peanut butter is the unsaturated, heart-healthy kind, and as with all plant foods, peanut butter contains no cholesterol. Peanut butter is a good source of niacin, folic acid, phosphorous, and vitamin E. Peanut products also contain significant amounts of phytosterols thought to protect against heart disease and cancer."
The Peanut Institute
Okay, not an unbiased source, but the information looks well documented.
Jif-type stays-creamy-in-the-jar peanut butter does not have cholesterol, but has trans-fats, which raise your cholesterol.Avocados have unsaturated fat, which actually lowers bad cholesterol. And they're yummy, like if butter were a vegetable.
I live in Portland, OR, which means that every third dirty hippie has white-guy (or -girl) dreadlocks. They're not even trustafarians anymore here, just angry-vegan hippie-punks with hand-blown glass plugs in their earlobes. I'm not a fan, and I can't imagine dating a guy with white-guy dreads (partly because they're silly and partly because I probably can't date anyone who doesn't eat bacon), but I've gotten used to them. But vegans in general, I can happily call control freaks with serious issues. If I want fois gras, I'm gonna eat me some fois gras, damnit!
Lisa, I love your "if butter were a vegetable" comment on avocados.I think I'm going to have to eat some now!
Um, hate, right. Let's see - I hate that avocados are pretty high in calories. Darn!
Mmmm...now I want a peanut butter and cheese sandwich, and an avocado. It's too hot to cook today, so I think I've figured out dinner!
I love peanut butter. It's really good with bananas, makes a good sandwich. And it's good with chocolate. But, isn't just about everything?Hot here, too. Time for ice cream! Later, there will be burrrrritos (done in Peggy Hill extra rolly-R style).
Tomorrow, I will mow the part of the yard that my husband didn't mow today. I hate mowing, but he'll do most of it. He would do ALL of it, but our electric mower doesn't have enough power to cover the whole yard when the grass is as high as it is right now.
I think i hate mowing more than vacuuming, but I hate it the same way. Pure sweaty drudgery, pushing a noisy machine back and forth, back and forth....
I just realized that I have no sense of humor when it comes to vacuuming. It makes me testy. I hate that, too.Sorry, Dave. You should never joke about vacuuming, nothing good will ever come of it.
And now, back to the dreaded chore...
I'm sorry. I'm just pissing people off right and left. Maybe Sarah's leaving MiniAm is my fault too. I'm sorry. [Puts on sackcloth and ashes.]
No Dave, it's not you, it's me with my vacuuming sore-spot. And Sarah has her own buttons that have been pushed, a lot. And you look silly in sackcloth, so stop that!We ought to be able to post our thoughts and opinions here. Sometimes, controversial issues can lead to serious differences of opinion. I don't think we should post maliciously. I try to not get personal and keep to the issues, I don't know how successfully.
This could be a good thing for the threads, if it makes us stop a moment and think about who is on the other end of the internet tubes, getting those messages from the magic hamsters...
I didn't really think Sarah's leaving is my fault. I never said anything negative about Christianity here, because I know it leads to no good. And I don't think my controversial post was malicious, at least not in intent. It was peevish at best and I apologized.
KD, I would like to expand upon your first hate: I hate when people stand right in front a store entrance smoking. I hate when people stand in the middle of the sidewalk smoking. I hate those inconsiderate smokers who will blow smoke in your face as they walk past you.
I used to be a smoker and I never did that shit. It is rude and gross.
Yeah, I think your "controversial" post was within bounds, Mr. Peevy. I didn't like where that thread was going, and I understand why Mau closed it, but I don't know if that was the best move. I'm all for people walking away if they are unhappy with a discussion.
If Mau wants truly substantive discussions, he needs to trust us to get through the rough patches and out the other side.
Here's my recent hate: I'm growing whiskers!!!!

And only on one side. It's horrific. I'm thinking about upping the pill to 8 pills a day to counteract the mysterious testosterone flow that has overode my system.
I hope this doesn't kill the thread.
LOL, Sally! I think it's one of those things that happen as you get older. More hair where you don't want it, grrr...I have one on my upper lip I regularly pluck, and I'm not even going to talk about the nose hair...
I'm so glad you mentioned this! I've got one on my upper lip, and one growing out of my chin. This started when I turned 40. A lovely age! Bifocals and chin hairs. And I'm blonde, but these are coarse black - like the old crones! I pluck them out, too, but they sometimes break off, they are tricky mofs! I LOVE it when I succeed is getting it out by the root. And Jackie - I don't care if Nick comes here, I'll tell him to take a look at the old ganders who grow bushes not just out of their nostrils but their ears! myaha
Yep, ladies. Exactly. And Lori, I got my first pair of reading glasses today. Is there a correlation? I don't even want to know what other parts of me are exponentially aging.

KD, I feel your hate on this one. These people are easily one of my biggest pet peeves, especially when they happen to be from affluent(ish) families that are paying their way through school. Don't talk to me about the oppressed masses until you can speak from personal experience, you dumbass Trustafarian. I don't think you have grounds to deride my lack of attendance at whatever ineffectual protest/rally you are stumping for today because I had to work. You know, that thing you never have to do?
Wow, that's a can of worms.
