When are you your most authentic self? (ice cream)
your character is most revealed when you are the dark by yourself. no one to perform for. no one to entertain. nothing to distract you. that is who you are. for good or for bad. you know your hopes, fears and failures. no one to fool
As long as you don't order mint chocolate chip. Mint chocolate chip is gross. Green ice cream is a bad thing.

Over the years I've learned to appreciate being true to myself. Don't always succeed -- but I make the attempt nonetheless.Polonius:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!
Laertes:
Most humbly do I take my leave, my lord.
I'm most authentic when I've downed 14 Grey Goose on the rocks...not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
I couldn't be authentic after 14 Grey Goose - passed out would be a better description.
It's my favorite flavor too, Lori! And it's true, the good stuff isn't green. I'm most myself when I am comfortable with my myself enough that I can forget about how I'm presenting myself to others.
Hmm, convoluted enough?
No, not at all! I think it's rare when we can be ourselves with other people around. And I'm wondering when that is. Hopefully we can be that way when we're with our loved ones. But even then, it's a give and take - mindful of the other's feelings. So we might be feeling somewhat blue or excited, but if our mate or significant other is feeling the opposite or even feeling bluer, we need to put a damper on it. There's usually energy involved with being with other people.
Orange chocolate chip is very good, and the good stuff is orange..
But tempering our reactions around others is part of the authenticity. Because if you weren't authentic about how they may feel, you would just say or do what you felt.
Hopefully that made sense.

I love Animal House. Relegated to watching it by myself now, as the rest of the family has no taste :-).
I'm always authentically me, sure, Jim. I've given myself permission to be myself, and do what makes me comfortable. Which means hanging out by the refreshment table at parties instead of forcing myself to mingle, if I don't feel like it. :)
Wow, ice cream discussion PERFECT for pregnant lady to stumble across.
But I saw the thread title/RA's post and I just finished an AWESOME class and so I came to tell everyone that I am most absolutely my most authentic self when I'm teaching. I love it. I love watching their faces and reading their expressions and seeing if they're getting what I'm explaining and if they're not, rearranging my explanation until it does make sense.
My job makes me feel so very good on some days.

Good point Sally, I really enjoyed that about coaching.
No time not to be authentic on the field.

NO worries Kev, ice cream is always welcome. I just wanted to throw my two cents in about RA's original question. Carry on with ice cream talk. I enjoy it mucho.
I can never figure out what flavor to order. When I buy it at the store I get 5 kinds. Does this mean I have no idea who I am?
I am still waiting for authenticity to strike me. I prefer chocolate to ice cream.
I actually just bought ice cream at the store this afternoon. I got mint, vanilla honeybee, peach sorbet, and coconut pineapple. no chocolate. what the hell is going on with me!?!? ;)
You obviously need the calcium, eat it all immediately! Add some whipped cream as a matter of fact - listen to your body... :)
Do they give that "talk" to every pregnant woman around this time? I know tons of women who've had that one visit where they'd gained 5 or 10 lbs all of a sudden towards the end and then got told they were fat.
How much weight have you gained, Sallers? I gained 52 lbs! Yowza! I lost most of it quickly from breast feeding, but the last 10 I didn't lose until I got a jogging stroller. I don't jog, but it was just great for maneuvering and going on long walks. I think there are now other 3 wheel strollers, not just the original jogging ones. Oh, and I got mine at a garage sale for half the price. Garage sales are The Best for baby stuff.
Hey watch it Mr. Vasectomy! My friend is a midwife, first she had to be an RN, she worked for years in the OB section of the hospital, and then had to take several years more of classes to qualify. They are extremely experienced. The only thing they can't do is a C-section, but I'd probably trust a midwife more than most OB/GYN docs.
i know. sorry. just don't hear that term that much. so a midwife can be a man too huh?"i don't know nothing bout birthin' no babies miz scarlet"
I don't know exactly because I stopped looking at the scale at my visits, but at the last appointment she told me that I was "slightly above normal" weight gain, and I was on track to gain 40-45 lbs. They want us to gain 25 I think. Seriously. All women should gain this one magic number, it seems. I gained that in my second trimester.
And yes, Kevin, midwife. The midwives at the fortcollins womens clinic are more prevalent and available than ObGyns, and have a history of fewer interventions during birth. I'll still be at a hospital, and they can administer drugs if I need 'em. But they can'tcut me open do a csection and I don't want that to happen anyway. If need be a MD is on call.

I......was gonna tell a cautionary tale about a woman I knew who dieted during her pregnancy, but I don't want to be one of those people who, you know, do that.Have a healthy baby and worry about the weight later.
my sister actually had her last baby with a midwife only in a birthing room. there was a doc on stand-by but it was much cheaper for her as she had no insurancemy wife gained less with each of our 3 children because she found out how tough it was to get back down to her fighting weight afterward. she gained like 50# then 40# and then 35#
