Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I don't feel like talking about ice cream. I'm going to gloss over the green mint chocolate chip ice cream discussion... and all the other junk about ice cream and skip right to saying that I invented an awesome dessert this past week when coming up with ideas for something to serve at my book club meeting:

puff pastry shells with key lime pie filling topped with morello cherry preserves and a dollop of whipped cream - wicked easy to make and looks impressive... and pretty! :)

Also, I don't know that I can necessarily speak for myself, but I can say that they truest measure for observing another person's true self is in the face of a crisis. Seriously. I've had more than one recent occasion to observe others in action in this sort of situation, and I think it reveals alot about a person's core self.

Did you gloss all of the thread, Heidi-San?

Keylime1

Keylime

This is interesting. I understand the logic, but what if one is unused to crisis? Is that novel self "true"? Or one is so used to crisis that the "mask" can come on again?

What about habit? Is our true self in habit?

message 61: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Well, crisis doesn't HAVE to be dramatic - it's just something that gets pushed past the priorities - snaps a person out of routine.

I mean, obviously, a person having a medical emergency is a crisis. But we've all experienced having to operate in crisis mode -

Oh poop! The computer just shut down and didn't save that 20 page project I'd been working on all day...

Oh no! I accidentally locked my keys and my phone and my purse in the car... in a bad neighborhood.

Ahhh! I'm finally next to check out in the grocery line, and I just remembered I left my wallet in the car. Nice.

I think being in the mundane routine, completely turned "off," can also reveal alot - I've gotten a kick out of the fact that my roommate's opened up a bit around me since I've moved in. In all the years I've known him, I've NEVER known him to sing to his dogs, and he totally does. It's really sweet.

I don't believe it.

I thought everyone liked chocolate?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I prefer chocolate to ice cream as well. But why choose? Eat both, if you want, because that's being authentic.

message 66: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Both.

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't mind a bit of vanilla as an accompaniment, but I wouldn’t eat ice cream on it’s own.

message 68: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) On its own what?

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Sally wrote: "Did you gloss all of the thread, Heidi-San?"

Ha! I missed this post, Sally.

Yes. Mostly... :)

message 70: by Lori (new)

Lori So what this title leads me to believe is this:

When we eat ice cream (or chocolate) we are at our most authentic self.

You know, that's really pretty good!

message 71: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 158 comments I'm just going to throw in my vote for green tea ice cream. Yes, I know a lot of people are probably saying "thats gross" right now but it is quite good.

message 72: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments gross. i did have green bean ice cream in china though

message 73: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I love green tea ice cream. It's one of my faves... but only works after a night of edimame, miso soup, sake, and sushi.

message 74: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments what about sushi ice cream. it would be very easy to make. here in IN it would be as easy as: ice fishing, cream, eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, one bass and lots of beer

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Kevin, I love sushi, I love ice cream, but neither should EVER go together.

message 76: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments Mint chocolate chip ice cream has always been one of my favorites. And I don't mind that it's green.

message 77: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments yeah, you're right gus. that is why i am still sacking groceries as Sav-A-Lot instead of an entrepreneur

message 78: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments as a kid i would always ask my mother for anything pistachio, just because it had a cool green color without being a vegetable.

I don't think savory things should be in an iced creamed format.

I've heard of tomato ice cream and that just sounds wrong.

message 80: by Lori (new)

Lori Ptui!

message 81: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments Tomato ice cream?!?!? What's wrong with people?

message 82: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments lori - i have always wondered how to spell that

message 83: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I've always spelled it "ptewy."

message 84: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments I've seen it as ptui in comics. In years past, not recently. :-)

message 85: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i would have gone with patooey myself but i like lori's way. it's like i am speaking inuit or something

message 86: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
I've always spelled it patooey too, Kevin. Ptui looks like how the intuit indians do it.

Last night I made Sweeter run to the store to get some ice cream. I asked for chocolate or strawberry. He came home with chocolate cherry nut parfait. I think it has walnuts in it.

message 87: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments what? that would not have flown at my house. i once drove 60mi hurriedly to get to a place where my wife wanted teriyaki chicken from mac's resturant. when momma had a specific request there was no deviation

message 88: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Someone didn't explain the rules to him. A few weeks ago I asked for hot chicken noodle soup from the deli. He brought me cold chicken tortilla soup (with beans!) from the deli CASE. Grrrrr.

message 89: by Lori (new)

Lori What? I think this requires some favors being withdrawn til he gets it right!

Altho that might have to wait - I doubt much is going on in that department right now. *grins*

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

Lemon, but that's a dead give-away, ain't it.

I am more authentic at drinking anyway

message 94: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Lemon meringue pie please.
