What are you reading right now? (SEE NEW THREAD)
I'm either starting The Things That Keep Us Here by Carla Buckley (met her this past weekend and bought her book at a book festival--such a nice person) or The Distant Hours by Kate Morton.I just finished The Dry Grass of August by Anna Jean Mayhew, excellent book.
You're so lucky Kathy to meet so many authors. I always want to buy their books.
Jeannette wrote: "You're so lucky Kathy to meet so many authors. I always want to buy their books."I had to limit myself this time. If I engage in conversation with an author, I feel I have to buy her/his book, so, unfortunately, I didn't talk to as many authors this time.
I just ordered a couple of books from authors I have gotten to know through goodreads. :) It not quite the same, but close.
The Russian Concubine is going a little slow for me..I hope its sequel is better. I thought it was my kind of book. I'm starting to wish I hadn't bought it. But to make it easier I'm also reading Half Broke Horses and I love this book.
I've started the endless Virgin River series by Robyn Carr. Pretty good so far although at times the writing seems a little rough. But the story is good a quarter of the way in and that is all I want is a good story.
I'm reading a monster book in more ways than one called The Passage. It's big and heavy and a bit creepy but it has my attention.
I am reading Sing you home, by Jodi Picoult and omg why no one told me its so sad right form the beginning! omgsh :( especially when my friend just went through the same thing 2 weeks ago today. she was 31 weeks. sigh :(

I don't think i was in the right frame of mind to read a book of a heavy topic. It was well written but my mind just wasn't into it. The rewarding thing though is the music that comes with the book. That I can assure you.
Hmmm....I have it on Kindle so I didn't get music.
I started reading the first Harry Potter book. After reading nothing but sad stories, I decided it is time to switch gears to something a little less real.
Christine wrote: "Hmmm....I have it on Kindle so I didn't get music. "If you go to the publishers website www.simonandschuster.com or something like that you click on Sing You Home and the music is uploaded there were you can hear it for free.

I think I've already posted that I'm reading The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. Just wanted to say that I'm halfway through and loving it. How does Morton keep coming up with these complex, layered novels that are so wonderful!
Do you think this is as good as or better than The Forgotten Garden, Kathy? I'll watch for your review.
Jeannette wrote: "Do you think this is as good as or better than The Forgotten Garden, Kathy? I'll watch for your review."Don't know yet, Jeannette. I liked The Forgotten Garden slightly more than A House at Riverton, but I'm not sure where The Distant Hours will fit in. I know it will be neck to neck with them.
I finally finished The Russian Concubine wasn't my cup of tea. I usually love historical fiction but this one just DRAGGED on. I have another book by the same author TBR and I hope its better - The Jewel of St Petersburg-. I started reading The Distant Hours and I'm still reading Mozart's Ghost: A Novel I'm also hoping to start The Lake of Dreams
I've been on a reading binge, but I started You Can't Drink All Day If You Don't Start in the Morning yesterday. Funny!!!
I just finished Mark Spragg's The Fruit of Stone. Great description of the Wyoming landscape and great observation details but not my favorite plot. It did inspire my to start his other novel An Unfinished LifeAn Unfinished Life. I have already read it twice and don't often re-read books, but A U L is really calling to me!
Lauren wrote: "I finally finished The Russian Concubine wasn't my cup of tea. I usually love historical fiction but this one just DRAGGED on. I have another book by the same author TBR and I hope ..."Oh good, Lauren, we are both reading The Distant Hours now.
Kristi wrote: "I've been on a reading binge, but I started You Can't Drink All Day If You Don't Start in the Morning yesterday. Funny!!!"Kristi, I've seen this title before and thought it hilarious! Good to know the content is funny, too. I'll have to make sure it's on my TBR list.
I just finished
. Wow! This is an incredible book -- it moved me to tears for a myriad of reasons. A story of sarifice, life, love, dreams, regret. I highly recommend it.

oooh Jeannette that looks really good!
Besides reading John Keats's "Ode on a Grecian Urn" over and over again because I'm analyzing it, I'm also reading The Woman I Kept to Myself, which I won from the Goodreads Giveaway. It's awesome!
I just finished Heads You Lose, which was hilarious and a comfort read for me.I've started Pavement Chalk Artist: The Three-Dimensional Drawings of Julian Beever
and I'm about to start Beggars in Spain for a Goodreads' group.

I really do think you will like it. I tend to be a pokey reader, but I didn't want to put this one down.

I just ordered it from Amazon. I should have it by Friday. Yay! I need something really good.
It's gonna make you cry! Just be forewarned.
I really hope you'll love it! If you don't, I'll buy it from you. :) (money back guarantee)

It looks really good, and once I saw your comments I had to get it. (no pressure on you, haha!!)
I just blew my "no book buying" streak of almost 2 months. It feels so good to be bad!

I'm glad I could help! Lent is over, so you needed to break loose....

My insecurity shining through.
My insecurity shining through.
I broke down as well and bought 5 new books yesterday! $2 each for some great classics, so I don't feel too bad.
I've been on a buying jag myself, blaming it on my daughter's birthday! (delusional, I know)
On vacation I read six books: Tiny Sunbirds, Far Away
my GR review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
and
Portrait of a Turkish Family
my GR review:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
both got 5 stars! I highly recommend both!
The following two got 4 stars:
An Imperfect Lens: A Novel
my GR review:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
and
The Kitchen House
my GR review:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
The Girl in the Green Sweater: A Life in Holocaust's Shadow got 3 stars
my GR review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Whisper on the Wind I only gave 2 stars and my review explains why: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
All reviews are spoiler free, and I really write them so that people will be able to judge if the book will offer what they are looking for. We are not all looking for the same things...... My two star can by your five star! Maybe.... For this reason it is important to explain what exactly I liked or disliked.
Now I am reading Valeria's Last Stand. I must say - I am kind of struggling. I was hoping it would have the charm of A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, but it doesn't.
Christine wrote: "I just blew my "no book buying" streak of almost 2 months. It feels so good to be bad!"LOL! I've been a bad girl, too, Christine, but you're right. It feels so good.
I just finished Soul of a Lion about a Wildlife Rescue in Namibia Africa called Harnas..5 stars awesome ;-) Now I'm reading Huck: The Remarkable True Story of How One Lost Puppy Taught a Family--and a Whole Town--About Hope and Happy Endingsalso a great read...
Tonight I'm choosing to start one of the following three: Tallgrass by Sandra Dallas, The Things That Keep Us Here by Carla Buckley, or The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.
Jeannette! My book already arrived!!!!!

I'm just over halfway through The Lincoln Lawyer on audiobook, and enjoying it very much so far. My friends and I have tickets to see the film of the book plus a talk/q&a with Michael Connelly in May, which I'm really looking forward to.
