I have that waiting on my Kindle. Let me know...
I'm loving Rooftops of Tehran
. Lee, you would probably like this one a lot.

I loved this book, Kim, especially for the well-researched historical aspect of it. I met and actually spent an evening talking with Kathleen Kent, and I must say that she is one of the most intelligent, gracious, and articulate people I have ever encountered. The picture of me here is with Kathleen on the right side facing the viewer.

Ashley, I thought these two books by Ellen Hopkins about her daughter were excellent, really opened up my eyes a bit about drug addiction. After you finish Glass, I have some additional information I can share with you about Ellen's daughter. I talked to Ellen last year at a book festival.

Lisa, I take it that you are enjoying the Spellmans series? I read a negative review on the first one, which I had just purchased, and was hopeful that the person reviewing it wasn't right. If you like them, the chances are pretty good that I will, too.

It sounds like I will love them, too, Lisa. The words "dysfunctional" and "dark humor" are right up my alley. LOL! Thanks for giving me more to go on about these books.
I loved the first one too (only quibble--it's a tad too long), and can't wait to read the second.
I'm trying to finish up The Count of Monte Cristo, which might be a little long to be considered comfort, but the Count is an old friend and it's so much fun!!

If dysfunctional and dark (also warped) humor appeal to you, you will probably enjoy these! ;-)

Hi Kimberly, I'm at about the same place, but put it down to read something else for a while. It's pretty intense, and I don't know a lot about the history so I have to stop and look a lot of things up, which slows me down. Will get back to it soon, as I really want to read about teh later part of his life.

I finished [book:The Heretic's Daughter: A Novel. An excellent book I highly recommend -- be sure to save a big chunk of time to read this one. Once you start, you won't want to stop. I added it to the bookshelf here. A comfort read from the perspective of good ultimately triumphing over evil, and people learning from past mistakes. Let me know what you think of it...

Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favs. I consider it one of the fore-runners of modern day soaps. I love the amazing highs and lows of this book. But I do recommend an abridged version.

Lisa wrote: "Lee, Maybe it will be more fun in a few years because you can better share it with your daughter, but you have to read M.M. Kaye's The Ordinary Princess!"
This is a wonderful book! I enjoyed reading it myself. :)

I've got the Ordinary Princess on my list!
Most of my friends have rated Shadow of the Moon very highly but so far I'm not loving it or her writing style. There seems to be a lot of backstory and describing of events and I'm not engaged with the characters yet.

Yup, but I think it will be slow going and I might sneak something else in there with it. :-)

Kathy, someone else has highly recommended The Girls to me but because of the subject matter I'm a little scared to read it. I'm a wussy.

Lee, I was also a little squeamish about reading The Girls but I decided to go for it and I am so glad that I did. I adore this book! The subject mattter was handled well, not at all sensationalized, and Lori Lansens is a beautiful writer. Don't be scared!!
Okay, thanks for the encouragement Mary. I will give it a go. I keep hearing good things about this book so I'm sure I'll like it.

@ Joy; I'm jealous! I've had The Help on hold at the library for a good couple of months now ... an..."
When I picked up The Help there were over 1,000 people waiting for it at my library website! I can see why it's so popular :)

Peregrine, Many people don't like it but I really enjoyed this book. I read it recently.

Well, at page 16 I'm right into it :-)

Please, Daddy, No
Don't Tell Mummy
I'm really going to need some comfort reads after this!

This sounds like the kind of book that I'd like to read. Thanks to all who mentioned it, it's going on my 'must find' list!
Lynn, I'm glad. Quite a few people have highly recommended it to me so I hope you enjoy it.
Last night I wanted to take a break from my book club read so I picked up A Wrinkle in Time. Another book I haven't read that everyone else has. So far I think it's adorable.

Lee, Then, after you read you absolutely have to read A Wrinkle in Time (which is one of my all time favorite books!!!!! and one of the first I added to our shelves) you should then read a book I just read: When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. It just won the Newbery, which was richly deserved. I loved it, even purchased a copy, and it's a kind of homage to A Wrinkle in Time.
I can't wait to you about A Wrinkle in Time, which I've read over 100 times, and where I cry with emotion at the same point every single time.
I might have to look at A Wrinkle in Time again. It didn't grab me the first time I read it, so I didn't finish it.

Thanks Kathy for sharing more about The Girls and her new book. It sounds like it would be a good book club read.

Last night I wanted to take a break from my book club read so I picked up A Wrinkle in Time, A Swiftly Tilting Planet and Many Waters. They are all wonderful books.
I am still in the middle of The Neverending Story (I love this book and it's wonderful, but I keep getting distracted by the imaginative setting, I end up researching names etc. when I should be reading the story) and I've just started rereading Anne of Green Gables, which is the April selection for the Kindred Spirits group (always an amazing treat, AOGG is one of my all-time favourite books).
