I love my ipod for that very reason. I have about five hours of music on it, over a hundred podcasts, and three books and still have room for more.
Apparently the Hunger Games isn't very good on audiobook (whic h is sad because it's such a great book).Try Bloody Jack by LA Meyer. Just finished it and it's awesome. I am the Messenger is also really good. Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.
There are actually a lot of really great audiobooks out there. Hunger Games just isn't one of them. (From what I've heard--I had warnings not to listen to it)
Yep, I agree with Cassi! Everyone here pretty much hated the Hunger Games on audio.A great audiobook will make you love a book. It should be like listening to a movie.
@Piper, yep, I think so! I've heard that the book is good but the audio is better. I'll let you guys know how it is when I've listened to it.
PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER TRIED AUDIOBOOKS (aka Shannen and Lyle). DO NOT. I REPEAT, DO NOT START WITH THE HUNGER GAMES AS YOUR FIRST ONE! IT WAS HORRIBLE AND THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER GOOD ONES OUT THERE. THANK YOU
YOUR RESIDENT AUDIOBOOK LOVER
Aw man... That sucks! I really wanted to get Hunger Games. My husband loves books, but his A.D.H.D. is so bad he can't really read. So I check out audiobooks that we can listen to in the car. Due to this he's read 5 books in the past 2 months. And he loves it! I really wanted him to read The Hunger Games, because I really think he would love it. Any other ideas on books that a guy might like on audiobook? Right now we are listening to Graceling & next we are going to do Coraline. But after that, I'm clueless. He really enjoyed Leviathan on audiobook.

That's exactly the first audiobook I tried. Blech. I will see if my library has Bloody Jack. :)

Shannen I know you tried Hunger Games first and I hated it, so I want you to try a good one because that was not a good on to judge all audiobooks on. Bloody Jack would be a great one to try!
Catherine the narrator for Hunger Games sounded too old and monotone to be Katniss. Check all the audiobooks on the audiobook thread in this group -- I will bump it for you. You can't go wrong with the following on audio
,
,
, or
. p.s. Graceling was also excellent on audio IMO.
Nope. Our library is in the dinosaur age. At least they have a YA section.
My local one doesn't have it either, so I have library memberships to 4 other libraries, with 3 of those having digital downloads. You're missing out! The Highlander series have a great narrator.
So how do I get a membership?
Okay. I'll give audiobooks another try. I keep hearing (reading, actually. >.<) of Bloody Jack so I'll start that one. And I love the Dresden Files so I'll get thay too. Thanks!

I'm here!!! I have not left for good but I am in a slump - reading slump that is. I have the new Morganville Vampires book but I can't seem to get into it (been like over a week now and I am only like 100 pages in) which is weird because I usually speed right through them. It's not bad it's just me. I think I may need to go back to some cozys or adult books. Right now I am in deep with One Tree Hill - kind of replacing my book time. All lame excuses I know....
Lyle I have been told to actually skip the first Dresden File book UNLESS I listen to it on audio because the audio makes that book so much better (I guess the series gets better as it goes along).
Yay Jaimie, there you are! We all have our slumps Jaimie so no problems there. p.s. I have been known to get so into new to me tv series that my husband gets mad and says I love them more than him (i.e. Veronica Mars, Sex & the City, and Everwood). I will not only watch the whole series on DVD, but then rewatch it all over again! *cough* you did not hear this from me, but I may also watch some of those cheesy youtube videos that revolve around my favorite tv couples. I am sure you won't even know which ones I am talking about so I will stop there.
Ha! My bf is super annoyed with me because I keep downloading the series and going into the computer room when I get home to watch them. He's like what's so great about this show? It seems really cheesy and every episode is about a pregnacy scare or someone getting in a fist fight? And I am like duh? Who doesn't like to watch that?!
Exactly Jaimie! Men just don't get the fun of all that teen angst. It is pure joy. Where are you getting it from - Netflix? I may have to start watching it because it has been awhile since I lost myself in a series (not since Everwood *sniffle sniffle*).
Who can explain what the draw is to Soap Opera's (whether daytime or primetime). I love them too! All the craziness is addicting. I watched One Tree Hill, 90210 (including the new one), OC... I used to watch all channel 7 daytime soaps and still watch General Hospital religiously... it's addicting entertainment!
Men are stupid when it comes to the joy of these shows Wendy. No offense to the men on here, I know it is not all of them. My brother in law watched Veronica Mars with my sister (I was so jealous). And,strangely my hubby watched Sex & the City with me because "HBO has good shows". Geez!
Don't you guys have a thread to talk about tv?!?!?!? Hahaha, I just want to ask if anyone watches The Walking Dead on AMC.
I got lucky, my husband loves General Hospital. We actually watch it together. He says it's because the main storyline always has to do with mobsters, lol.
Peep people in glass houses... p.s. my hubby and I plan to watch Walking Dead but will probably wait for DVD. Do you watch it?
Wendy wrote: "I got lucky, my husband loves General Hospital. We actually watch it together. He says it's because the main storyline always has to do with mobsters, lol."Wow Wendy. That is rare. My hubby did admit he watched Days of Our Lives in college - isn't it weird guys in college will watch soaps, but the minute they leave they act like they are the plauge! p.s. How is the new/old Lucky since he came back?
Amazing!! He picked back up the role like breathing and completely revived the character. Greg Vaughn was burying Lucky alive with the lack of Charisma. Lucky was one of my favorites when I was young. I was about the same age as Liz and Lucky during the whole romance so it was exciting when he came back.
Heidi I wrote: "Peep people in glass houses... p.s. my hubby and I plan to watch Walking Dead but will probably wait for DVD. Do you watch it?"I watched the first episode. It's extremely good quality horror, especially for tv. It's crazy that they even show it on tv. So far, it's pretty interesting. I haven''t watched the second episode because I fell asleep before it came
Heidi - my bf downloads bit torrents (?) on vuze or something like that. It is a bit like bootlegging if I understand it correctly but I watch a lot of the series on the internet - sidereel.com has links to websites (mostly megavideo) that stream it. I know netflix has One Tree hill but I think they only have it on disc and we never order the discs, only use the streaming. Oh and the Walking Dead is awesome! I think it is on Hulu...
Jaimie my library has all the seasons of One Tree Hill, so I will try it that way. My hubby won't let me download anything like that because he does not trust a lot of sites. Did you say Walking Dead is on Hulu? None of the other AMC shows ever are and it ticks me off (FYI - Breaking Bad and Mad Men are awesome. AMC has great shows).

I watched when he was on before. I was so sad when Robin was HIV positive :(

Only the first episode is. The rest are on iTunes. Booooo.

Nice - my library really doesn't have much of a selection when it comes to dvds.

They recently had an episode where Robin was trapped in a well (Loooong story, of course, lol) and she actually got a visit from Stone. I loved Stone, it was a very touching episode.

Jaimie boo to your library! A pox on them. Mine has an excellent selection - can you get any from near by libraries?
Yes Bluemoon cold weather (althought it was 70 degrees here today- yay!) makes me want to sit by a fire, drink some cocoa and read a cheesy mystery!
Bluemoon wrote: "-_-' thanks Heidi! Here it's just 9 degrees and it's gonna get colder as winter rolls around..."Today is the last day of warm weather, so I took a nice walk to enjoy it. Tomorrow we freeze again. I am from MN, I can take it!
I like cold weather because of books and for no other reason. I am not a snow girl, but I sure love a fire, a cup of cocoa and a good book.
Heidi I wrote: "Shannen wrote: "Peep wrote: "What state do you live in?"Washington."

Nope! I read her reply and thought, "Hey, she could totally visit Forks!" And I think she took a trip there, didn't she?
It seems I am in the minority - but I am listening to "The Hunger Games" on audio right now and am really enjoying it, so I have to defend it. I think the narrator does a great job portraying Katniss. I stayed away from the audio book for a long time, because of the nay-sayers here. But a friend recommended it to me recently, saying that the narrator treats Katniss with a lot of dignity - and I have to agree. I'm happy I didn't let the opinions here sway me into not trying it!
Jenna my problem with the HG audio is that several people on here have never even listened to an audiobook before so it is their first audiobook experience. IMO the HG audio is not one that adds to the story and makes it even better as some great audiobooks do, so they are judging all audiobooks on that particular one. If you are not new to audiobooks then by all means give it a try.
I guess I don't agree with the issues of it being too "slow" or the narrator sounding "old" - as I am completely riveted by it. Maybe it's because I was not familiar with the trilogy at all, and it's a good story - which is enough to keep me involved. I don't know. Maybe you're right - I wonder if my opinion would be different if it were my first audio book.
But, of course, no one should should be judging all audio books by their first experience with one - no matter what it is. There *are* a lot of duds out there. I just don't think HG is one of them.
