Usako (bbmeltdown) | 74 comments Misty could alter Broadening 10 to a specific continent! This way the typical European and American books are eliminated thereby nudging us into African, Middle Eastern, Asian and all the Pacific Islands! With HBO's Pacific miniseries airing, I'm CERTAIN even that libraries and book stores will be creating displays not just for adults but YA readers, too!

Or her Broadening by ethnicities could be altered into a "Around the World" type task, reading from each continent (maybe 2 or 3).

I think it looks great, Misty!
Perhaps a task could be to have people read a book set in a country they've never read about before. The author doesn't necessarily have to be from there, just the setting. If they couldn't find a fictitious story, people could read nonfiction about their chosen country.

You've obviously put a ton of thought into this!!

Misty | 1505 comments I like that Jennifer, but it might be hard to find books that way.

Lydia (loverofinformation) | 596 comments One last idea, Misty: maybe the buddies could choose a book available both in print and in audio so they could compare the presentations, ideas, see how the different media may facilitate or hinder discussion.

Most libraries have nonfiction books to the effect of "All About...". It's OK though if it doesn't work.

Misty | 1505 comments But are they fun enough and ya enough?

Yeah, that's true.

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 74 comments There could be teenage driven travelogues out there!

message 59: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments Possibly, for older teens (the whole backpacking/hostel thing). But are they going to be fun to read? You know, is it just a dry list of stuff?

I don't want to clog up the new posts, but holy cow, Misty!!! You've done a ton of work and it looks amazing!!!

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Heather wrote: "I wonder if the Buddy tasks could be combined to be the 50-pointer, instead of extra stuff in addition to the regular tasks and the 50-pointer. Seems like too much to read in 3 months otherwise."

There won't be a 50 pointer this time, from what I understand. Am I correct, Misty?

message 62: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments I hadn't planned on it, since it's so challenging as is. Also, it's the same amount of books as previous (or less) w/o a 50 pointer. I could give more of a bonus for completing all the tasks and buddy bits, to make the final score 350 instead of 325. What do you guys think?
(and thanks, Jennifer!)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Misty- for 3.20 and 1.15 do they have to be books that already have threads or can it be any book that fits in the genre and we can make a thread?

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Would Life As We Knew It work for one of the books for 3.25? It is exactly a diary, but it tracks the book by dates...

message 66: by Misty (new)

Misty | 1505 comments You can make a thread by all means for task 3.20! We want those folders to see some action, so as long as the book fits there, read it and contribute!
I don't know how "non-traditional" Life As We Knew It really is, but it does sort of look like a diary; every entry is dated, and some are fairly short. I'll let it slide; you have to read 2 others in a non-trad form anyway.
