Contemporary: Wicked Pleasure - Lora Leigh - Complete - 8 Aug 2010 - Normally I like Lora Leigh's books but this was a serie that originally started at Ellora's Cave and when it went mainstream, there was this need to put a mystery element into it. I'm not a fan of that, would prefer to see about the development of the relationship - also didn't enjoy the ending and who the bad person was after the rest of the book pointing in the other direction. I'm sure i'll continue to read CR in the future, but don't know if i'll seek any out with a suspense element unless i'm completely in the mood to read that.
Historical: The Persimmon Tree - Bryce Courtenay - Complete 20 November 10 - I've had this book sitting on the TBR pile for ages and finally got the incentive to read it. A love story set in the Pacific (specifically Indonesia) in WW2, but the two lovers are separated and what happens to them after. there is a sequel and i'm tempted to get it and read it, because I want to read more about Anna and Nick. i've read this genre before and will continue to do so in the future - but i'm very picky about what era's i read from, so not just any historical fiction will work.
Regency: An Invitation to Sin - Suzanne Enoch - Complete - 26 Aug 10 - I actually really enjoyed this book - it was the first by this author and I will def. be seeking more out in the future. She did a good job of balancing tension with friendly banter and romantic scenes...I def. loved Zach and want to read the other ones about his brothers
Erotic: Devil's Pact- Samantha Cruise - Complete - 11 Dec 10 - ok, I love ER as much as the next girl, but this book was a train wreak...I have no idea where to start...lol! It was like every bad clique in erotic romance writing all thrown together in one book...but I will keep on reading ER in the future
BDSM: Owning Rachel - Madison Layle - Complete - 6 Jul 10 - It was ok...but I don't know if I would run out to read another one in the series. It opens with Rachel who is a successful lawyer seeking treating for her sexual dreams that she is having...her therapist provides her a phone number to call and it goes from there - she is kidnapped and made into a "pet" - i've read a lot of BDSM and will continue to read this genre, but overall, wasn't too impressed with this variation. I have another book in the series that I'm going to try out before I completely make up my mind though.
PNR: Lover Awakened - JR Ward - Complete - 17 Jul 10 - ahhh, what can I say...I loved this book, Zsadist the ultimate tortured hero and I loved Bella. This is the third book in the series and I already have the rest on my kindle. I've only been reading PNR for about 6 months seriously, so there are so many authors I've yet to discover and I'll def. keep reading!
Fantasy: Some Girls Bite - Chloe Neill - Complete - 4 Jul 10 - Started and finished up Some Girls Bite in a rather short period of time. I was completely engrossed in it. I liked the interaction between Merit and Ethan and look forward to more in the future. Definately didn't pick up on who the bad person was until it was revealed, a sign of a good plot to me. I already have the next two sitting in my cart at Amazon (waiting for the third to officially be released in a few days). This is the second book I've read in the Urban Fantasy genre (the first being Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. I will definitely be seeking more out in this genre in the future.
Women's Fiction: - While My Sister Sleeps - Barbara Delinsky - Complete - 24 Mar 11 - i used to love Barbara Delinsky but over the girls I had stopped reading her...while I can't say I would rush out to pick up another of her books in the future, this was an interesting read - about a family coping with their elder daughter having a massive heart attack at the age of 32 and what they do, how did they cope...I'll probably keep reading women's lit, but its def. not a preference of mine
Chick-lit: Undead and Unappreciated - Mary Janice Davidson (Audiobook) - Complete - 15 Jul 10 - Chick-Lit - I have no idea why I keep listening to the Queen Betsy series by Mary Janice Davidson...they are goofy yes, and I can't say that I love them, yet I've used three of them for challenges now and plan to use book 4 in August. AT this in this installment there was some progress on the relationship between Betsy and Eric (aka Sinclair). I guess the idea of a vampire queen with a shoe fetish is just attractive to me;) I'm not typically a fan of chick lit, but I'm trying to broaden my horizons and these ones aren't too bad, so i'm sure i'll seek more out in the future.
GLBT: The River In Winter - Matt Dean - Complete - 14 Jul 10 - If you read the description of this is seems to be a typical romance but M/M, so I was a bit disappointed to find out that it was more literary fiction, so no HEA at the end. Its set in the 1990's when AIDS was on the rise and there was the movement that believed you could stop from being gay, as the main character struggles with that as well as the lose of his partner. I really like M/M as a rule, but this one just didn't do anything for me. It was well written, but I like HEA's...
Young Adult: Wit'ch Fire - James Clemens
Non-Fiction: Tried by War : Abraham Lincoln as Commander in Chief - James M. McPherson - Complete - 15 Aug 10 - I normally don't read non-fiction as a rule, but this one intrigued me when I was looking for a book about Lincoln for a challenge with another group. It focuses primarily on the Civil War and how the president who had no military service made the various decisions that he did - who he put in command and why; why he removed them - it was interesting to read. I don't know all that much about the Civil War aside from what I've read in fiction, so i'm sure i'll read some more in the future.
Religious Romance (BONUS): Love's Long Journey - Janette Oke - Complete - 2 Jul 10 - I just finished my religious romance. I'd heard a lot about Janette Oke's books since they had been made into movies but never read one. This is actually the third in the series, but I didn't feel lost without having read the others because its about the daughter of the original book. It was a short sweet read. Not sure if I will read other books by her in the future, but I enjoyed it for what it was. This is the first time recently that I have read any books in the religious romance/inspirational romance genre, although I remember reading some in my teens.
Classic (BONUS): Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte (Audiobook) - Complete - 15 Aug 10 - OMG, thank god I am done with this!! If this has been the first "classic" I had ever read, I might give up then and there, but thankfully its not!! This book was almost as pure torture as you can get!!
Native American (BONUS): Wind Warrior - Complete - 09 Aug 10 - I grabbed this book after the author visited RRRC as part of the Meet the Author. The book was quite good, but there was def. a bit more religious undertones than I was expecting...but the NA part of the story was interesting. I'm sure i'll seek some more NA out in the future, i've read quite a bit of it previously
