Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments Post here if you're reading, or have read our February read/March general fantasy selection, A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay.

Jon (jonmoss) | 529 comments I read A Song for Arbonne (my review) last April and loved it. I hated that it ended and that it was a standalone because I so wanted more. Kay's characters pulled on my heart and sucked me into their stories.

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I'm a little under half way through it right now.

Simkine I read it several years ago. Wonderful story like all his historical fantasy books. I've recently re-read some of his books and they are still as fascinating to me. Only Arbonne and Lions of Al-Rassan are left but I've been side tracked reading some new stuff.

I did just receive my first edition hc of this book which I'm very happy with and plan to read it soon but probably not for a few weeks.

Angie (anrich02) Read A Song for Arbonne a long time ago, I can't even remember when. Loved the book, but have never re-read it for some reason. I pull out his Fionavar Tapestry trilogy on occasion and also the Lions of al-Rassan.

Julie I'm on Chapter 3 of the book, I'm having a heard time finding the time to read this month as things have been busy. But I think that I'm finally getting into the book itself although I was confused about the timing during Chapters 1&2.

Elena I started the book yesterday. I little slow to get into it but I am enjoying it now.

Laura (imperfectreader) I've read it, multiple times. This is a good one for comfort reading.

Laurel I have both read the book and invited Mr. Kay to join us in our discussion. I will post as soon as I have his response.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments I just started this last night.

Amelia (narknon) Hey, I started this one last night too.

Melissa (mjkirkland) I have read this book already!!! Will review so I can participate with you folks.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments well, that's pretty cool...

Laurel Good news everyone - Guy Gavriel Kay will be popping in from time to time to answer questions about A Song for Arbonne. I'll post more information in the coming days.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments That's awesome, Laurel!

That's great to hear Laurel !

Julie That is going to add so much to the discussion, thanks Laurel!

Janny (jannywurts) | 807 comments I have read every book Kay has done the instant it came out. This is one excellent book! Though I read it long ago, I still recall parts of it very clearly.

I'll jump into the discussion if I have something to add. This is a quality author, and one of my top drawer favorites.

Katera I read A Song for Arbonne last year. I enjoyed it, though not quite as much as Tigana. I'd read it again except that I loaned it out. I hope everyone enjoys it like I id and I'll be looking forward to the discussion.

Suman (sumanchakrabarti) A Song for Arbonne is one of my Kay faves. I must have read it 8 or 10 times. Just thoroughly enjoyed each of the characters and the quandaries. The twists through the book sometimes made me laugh out loud. I'm with Janny on the quality of this author.

Jeffrey | 38 comments I read it a while ago and while I kind of recall it being decent -- it was not good enough for me to read twice.

Charles (charliewhip) | 223 comments Must agree withy Janny that Kay is one of the Great Masters writing fantasy today.

message 23: by Erin (new)

Erin Hillier I have read this book twice now. It is one of my favorites and actually one of the first I read of Kay's work. I learn something different every time I pick it up!

The best books grow with life experience. Kay's work does this incredibly well. I have yet to go back to something he did and find the magic was not there - the richness takes on new meaning each time.

It may be that some of the subtleties grow the more, with maturity. I'd suggest if you tried these books very young - try them again later on. They could have escaped me, perhaps, as a younger reader.

Madelejm I've read it several times. Most recently I listened to the audio book version. I think it was the third to come out as an audio book. It was quite enjoyable to have the narrator also singing the songs.

Emilie (emiliebee) Read and re-read. It's been a few years since, but I'll be interested to see people's thoughts.

Kristen (krisnd08) | 13 comments Read and currently re-reading. This was my first book by Kay so I can't wait to read it again

message 28: by Erin (new)

Erin Hillier Yes I definitely would agree with you there. I have been re-reading all of them now that I am doing my Masters and am noticing so many different things that I did not before. I read the Fionavar tapestry when I was quite young and when I re-read it, it was a whole new experience! So thank-you for the suggestion.
