Re: HEA. I thought All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr was a beautifully written jewel of a book but the ending was not what I expected and it was one of the few books which have made me cry. Will not now read anything else by this author and have to say that I always prefer a happy ending. There's enough sadness in life without adding to it. I prefer what I read as fiction to be entertaining and uplifting.

Yeah, I am wary about books that are not real romances. And even romances are not guaranteed to be HEA nowadays.
Hi everyone. It's cold here today, but an enjoyable sunny, windy cold with the waves rushing onto the shore.
Romance novels are often based around a story where the central character meets the love of their life by chance. Do you think people find love or that love finds them?
I think people have to be open for love, and love will find them. ... I remember in college I was so frustrated with men (don't remember why) and I was like, I am never dating again! Within 24 hrs, three men asked me out. *laugh* (Okay, one was a friend and just needed a date to his fraternity formal, but still!)
It's weird how that happens. I met my hubby when I broke up with this guy and swore off men. Was in the Navy and I met him in Spain.
I think luck plays a part, as in so many things. Most of us are also very fortunate to live in a part of the world where we have enough to eat. When you are hungry, love very much takes second place.
Currently 2F in Southern Wis, with a windchill (feels like) of -20F. Our actual temperature is to be below zero tonight and next two days, with windchills of 30-50 below zero.

Yet, research shows that even after our primary needs are met, our mortality rates increase unless there's loving connection, too.

I agree with you, Abigail. Once the heart is open and willing to receive love, it regularly shows up. Takes knowing and loving yourself first and then trusting love will present itself when you're not looking for it anymore... usually after you've gotten really comfortable with who you are!

Pamela— Uh-huh! Temp at 10 pm was -13F with windchill of -35F. It’s a bit chilling listening to the gusting wind.
I'm so jealous of everyone complaining about the cold - seriously! It has been around 40 degrees (over 100 Fahrenheit) here in Canberra since Christmas.
Summer used to be my favourite season, but now I'd give anything for winter!
On the other hand, the cold in the US at the moment looks a little bit crazy... The weather is hitting extremes everywhere.
Hi Sonya! The weather in the northern Midwest especially (Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan...) has been quite extreme this week, even colder than Alaska or Antarctica. We haven’t seen temps like these in decades. You know it’s bad when the Post Office suspends delivery. Schools have been closed all week—because of snow on Monday and windchills since then. Malls and state offices have been closed until this afternoon, and in Chicago it was so cold they actually set fire to rail lines to thaw them out so trains could run.
Now we’re supposed to swing the other way with temps above normal Sunday and Monday (about 45F), before we get another, less extreme Arctic blast. Gotta love winter in the northern US. 🙄
weather is unpredictable. They say snow and it don't come. Says rain and sunny all day. I just wait and see.
Sunny and cold here today. Snow is all around us but not here. (Torquay, Devon, England.) My computer is not functioning properly. Won't go into all the very boring details but if it hasn't improved by the end of the weekend I am buying a laptop.
Geraldine, I agree!....and is this where I mention again I live in Florida? I'm wearing jeans and a t-shirt. My kids wore shorts to school today.
Abigail -- Brag brag brag... LOL We had temps in 40s (F) Saturday and Sunday, which was awesome. Today started out around 40F in the morning, but started to drop throughout the day as the next cold front moved in. At 9:30 pm it is 25F, with windchill of 15F. Supposed to remain cold through the weekend now -- but thankfully not as low/extreme as last week.
Strangely, a lot of men wear shorts here, even when it is very cold. I am never sure of the reason. Is it that their homes are very hot and it takes them some time to recognise that outside is different! Or is it just a macho thing? Occasionally they appear to have tattoos and presumably want to show them off!
Carol, I don’t get that either. Below freezing here today, and a guy on the bus was wearing shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt. (Rolls eyes)
When the kids were little I made them wear long pants. But the weather here fluctuates wildly during the course of the day, so if they wore jeans, they'd be hot after school.I'm looking forward to needing a spring jacket when I visit MA in April. :)
Amazon recently deleted 16 of my historical romance ebooks from my wishlist, along with my comments, so I don't know exactly which books they no longer carry! They must be reducing their inventory of ebooks. I guess I should have printed it out...
Mary, they did that to me once—removed the image of an item on my list and replaced it with a “item no longer available.” Like you, I have no idea what they removed. I sent them a message regarding such practice, and never received a reply back. Evidently they have not improved on this. It’s not that hard to simply slap a banner on the item in question instead of completely removing it. At least that would give people a chance to look for an item elsewhere. 😡
I have had it happen before, but usually only one at a time. I thought something must be happening for 16 items to be removed at one time! Bummer!
I am doing fine, Lizzie. Hope you are doing good too. I hope all my HEAC family is safe and doing good!
Hello everyone. I'm here as well, in Torquay. Am keeping busy writing the biography I have been writing for 5 years and mainly staying in, as husband and I are over 70 and he has serious health problems which unfortunately necessitate a trip to the hospital every 7 weeks or so. Virtual hugs to you all. Keep as safe as you can. I have hope in the scientists to find a way forward.

Virtual hugs back to you. I am doing lots of jigsaws and, of course, lots of reading too.
Hi everyone. The world seems a strange place at the moment and I think groups like these are valuable way of maintaining social contact and some semblance of normality. Stay safe.
Sunday morning here. Very quiet. Far more birds and butterflies this year. Wild life round the world is venturing out onto streets previously frequented by the bustle of cars and humans.
Hello everyone. How are you all? Keeping safe, I hope. It seems strange that Autumn is now here- the leaves are beginning to wither and drop. I enjoy the seasons; I like the rhythm it gives to the year.
Hello everyone. Haven't been here for a bit, but life seems pretty much the same the last time I posted. Covid still has its stranglehold on the world and husband and I are still tottering along trying to avoid it, and not having seen our family for over a year. Happy Easter to everyone.

All alone, but hoping my children will be visiting sometime. Keep well and safe, and keep reading!

I have started reading the Maiden Lane Series by Elizabeth Hoyt and am enjoying the discussion of the books. Lisa Kay and Pamela did a great job, and the discussions are so fun, even if I can't offer an opinion.
Hello everyone. Am still tottering on. Hoping to see grandchildren and daughter shortly after 3 years of separation due to the wretched Covid.
Hello everyone. Long time no talk. I havent been on here in years and see if there's any old faces. And hello to the new.

I just read Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney which if I'm remembering correctly is set in Wales!
