We have way too many channels because Hubby likes to indulge. I'll claim only Starz as my extravagance.

I don't know about you two, but I know some who pay a lot every month (and it seems to go up every year) just to get two or three channels they like. That's ridiculous!
Anyway, that's my venting for the day. I'm looking forward to the 24th:)

Really agree, Groovy. However, I need my few specialised channels, so am caught in the system.

Hehe... like the lyrics from "Camelot":
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
But in Camelot, Camelot
That's how conditions are.
The rain may never fall till after sundown.
By eight, the morning fog must disappear.
☺

I'm with you! I don't want 200 channels I'll never watch, but there are a few cable channels I wouldn't mind having. It'd be nice if you could pick the 20 or 30 channels you actually want, without being forced to accept others you'll never watch.

edit: I just found out military guys attended her funeral, but I don't have any addresses for them. This little old tea lady (for Defence - or Defense as I think it is in America), and they came for her funeral. It's humbling to think of.
Here in Australia, until about a year ago you didn't need cable (or whatever it's called in each country). But now all the basics have disappeared from regular television, so you NEED it.
My brother had a great idea. He is getting me and my parents the basics of Foxtel (cable) instead of presents for birthdays, Christmas, Mother's and Father's Day etc. So instead of presents, he pays the bills for us. :)

So, you're saying that now in Australia, if you want to watch ANY type of television, you have to pay? Please don't let America hear about it. And, what a good brother.

You don't need to have cable, but almost everything is disappearing from regular television. For example, my family was heavily involved in motorsport and netball, but now all of that is exclusively on cable, whereas until this year it was all free-to-air.
My brother is VERY good with presents. I have a lot of gorgeous jewellery because of him. :)

If it wasn't on so late in the night I'd pay for the UFC/MMA stream. I did it for a few months and got to see some great fights that wouldn't be on cable, including the female fighters. If there was more women's sport on TV I might pay for it, but that looks unlikely. The women's UFC was great. So much less machismo and arrogance, the women seemed to really like each other but were still competitive. I like that in sport, when there's honour and respect between rivals, and it's not about insulting each other.

I refuse to pay high prices (that go up every year) for a million channels I don't need nor have time to watch. The only way I would pay is if I get what I want, on my terms, under $20 locked in for life! So, I guess that means I won't be able to see Wimbledon or the US Open--EVER!
That old saying: Got along without you before I met you...

No TV wouldn't be a problem. But no computers! I couldn't bear the thought.

I hope Novak at least gets to the finals.
There's a thread on another forum just for the French Open, it's so much fun keeping one another up to date. I forgot you like it, too. So, I'll be back and check on you as the next few days go by.

Serena was very sick and yet she pulled through. That's what I like about her. She never gives up no matter how much the odds are against her and bounces right back. She proved today that she's one of the best women's tennis players in history. Like Mary Carillo said: Where there's a will, there's a Williams!
If her health improves, she'll win her third French Open. But if she doesn't get better, it will be too close to call.
I'll check back with you:)

Am waiting to see what happens with Andy Murray. Evidently he's expecting a very hostile crowd and has been mentally preparing for it. He's also a very tough player. I believe he was at the Dunblane School Massacre when he was a little boy, and he hid under the Headmaster's desk.

The game was called because of rain, so I'll just have to find out tomorrow who won. It will be a tough call. Murray got the crowd behind him at one point, though.
They say Serena's got the flu and has been in bed all day. I've learned not to give up on her, but it is the FLU. I'm still rooting for her, but it will be a tough call, also.
Talk to you later:)

Serena well earned her win. Good for her. She's getting up in tennis age and it's good she'll go out a winner.

Anyway, it was a great French Open. And thank you for keeping me company on this thread. Until next time, Carol:)

lol

Yes, lovely today. Have just come in from sunbathing in the garden.

I understand how your dad got that idea, Carol. I thought this swarm was right out of the Ten Commandments. I still don't know if they were bees, wasps, or what. It was pretty eerie.

So, I'll be eager to get updates from you if you have time. Are you ready?

I hear ya. AT&T phone service cost more than monthly DSL service -- and I use the phone far less than internet!

I don't talk on the phone unless it's with my daughter, I hate phones and only use them for emergencies. So, why am I paying $45 a month for it?
