I'm fine. Getting ready to bake some Christmas things to send to family. Anyone else doing any baking this year?
Hope you had fun on your night out. I do as little as possible for the holidays from about a week before Thanksgiving until about the 15 of January. Wish I could forget they exist but I always have to make the yeast bread and the collard greens for the dinners or I would be in soooo much trouble with my family. Everybody enjoy the holidays.
I do all the cooking here for the whole family (seven of us over one week, and three of us over two weeks) over Xmas, which takes quite a lot of my time, so never do any baking for Xmas. I buy all the cakes and mincemeat pies etc.I find that peaches, or cherries in alcohol, are always popular after Xmas dinner, instead of Xmas pudding, which can be a bit heavy.
Peaches or cherries seem to be the most popular fruit to have in alcohol, although I have seen Mandarin oranges.
Years ago my mother-in-law and I got tipsy from eating Davenport Plums soaked in vodka. (We had made them the spring of that year.) That was a fun Christmas. We were preparing the buffet display and my husband and father-in-law came in from shopping and found us giggling in the kitchen. My father-in-law stepped on the peddle for the trash lid and counted the pits and said, "You're drunk!" Which just sent us into gales of laughter.
Those little suckers sneak up on you.
A lot of the Xmas foods involve alcohol- brandy to 'feed'( there's a euphemistic term for you!) the Xmas cake or to put in the pudding. Davenport plums soaked in vodka seem very much part of the tradition!
Man-oh-man! We're having a major rain storm here today. Glad my crown came in the other day and the dentist put it in early, instead of my having to go out in the weather today. I'll stay cozy and warm inside with a good book... and maybe a movie.

Sounds like the perfect day Lisa:) I'll be staying in today myself.
We had a wicked snowstorm here. I hope they have the roads cleaned up by the am. I'm currently enjoying a rare night of freedom, having a nice glass of wine and pretending to write a few reviews.
Well, it was more playing of FB & Goodreads then actually writing reviews for the most part. haha. But the goal was to get them done.
Very stormy and windy here last night and this morning there were 8 ships sheltering in the bay. Torquay faces east, and is in a very large bay, so it is a very safe anchorage in a southwesterly.
Jonel wrote: "Haha! I did get all of them done last night."Impressive, Jonel! And congrats on that. :o)
BTW, we go more rain yesterday than any in 52 years! I haven't checked yet, but we were headed towards the list of top 10 days in a hundred years.
So... I'm a dog person. I have nothing against high maintenance dogs. I have a husky, greyhound cross who is hyperactive and requires a great deal of attention and patience. That said..... The new dog that moved in across the hall will be the death of me. It does nothing but bark. It's driving my absolutely batty.

My dog just barks at people/cats/other dogs walking by the street. Since having a dog I realized that there are not a lot of dog people around :p.
Unfortunately this dog just barks. Incessantly. It's almost better when the dog is home alone. He doesn't get screamed at then, and stops after about 10 mins. So, in all honestly.... The root of my issue isn't the barking dog. It's the lack of training and attention from the owners. He's constantly getting screamed at (which is even more aggravating than the barking, lol) and the guy is big enough that he can pick up and relocate the lab so the dog knows nothing. Then the dog gets screamed at again and stuck in his crate for being a dog and getting excited when another dog is around.
Ok. Rant over. Just needed to get it off my chest.
If someone screams at a barking dog the dog just barks more. They think the human is barking along with them. Seriously, Jonel, put a "How to Get Your Dog to Stop Barking" pamphlet under their door anonymously.
Abigail wrote: "LK, I did not know that!"So the experts say. Also, they tell you - conversely - to teach your dog to "speak" on command, and then to teach them the "quite" command. (With a food reward.) That way, when they bark when you don't want them to, you can give them the "quite" command.
It goes without saying that you should check out why the dog is barking. My first husband used to beat the dog (yes, a major reason why I left) when he barked; however, someone was stealing the evergreen tree out of the front yard at the time... duh!
I've tried everything with my lunatic Border Terrier - and I've had dogs for many years. We live near the zoo, and the strange noises set her off. Anyone walking past the house, a leaf blowing... We ALWAYS stop her instantly and fetch her indoors, but she doesn't learn. On her walks, she just goes ballistic if a human or dog is in sight. I think she may have mild brain damage.

I was at a Christmas do at Living Coasts, and with all the lights around the bay it looked beautiful.

We are extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I walk a lot, and so am very fortunate there is such a long stretch of coast which has not been developed on, here actually within the town.
Hi Carol - yes, I live in Torbay too, near the Zoo. I love it here. I love that there are so many beaches to chose from, all different to each other, and that the sea can be so different on different days - usually so blue and tranquil, but then when you get a good head of storm out in the channel it can let fly with twenty-foot waves crashing over the sea wall. I get claustrophobic now if I'm inland for more than a day or two!
