One of the tornadoes that killed 16 was south of us about 20 miles. Please pray for our neighbors. Thanks!

Pamela(AllHoney) wrote: "One of the tornadoes that killed 16 was south of us about 20 miles. Please pray for our neighbors. Thanks!"Oh my goodness, I can't imagine how scary that would be... :(
I listen to people I know talk about the people they knew/know that were affected. Tragic. I didn't know anyone myself. People in Heber are finding debris from the tornado in their yards.
Those tornadoes just look so terrifying. My thoughts go out to anyone having to deal with such destruction and tragedy.
That is so terrible. I have a friend that lost everything in a tornado years ago in Nebraska. When she would tell her story it made my heart ache, just hearing what her and her family went through, I can't even imagine. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone having to deal with this.
Hazel wrote: "What can you do about bad reviews ?"As in negative reviews? That rip the novel and author apart?
Hazel wrote: "Any thoughts on Ghost Writers ?"Writers that write books for other authors? Depends...if the author drafted the idea, gave input to the book, then I think that's okay. Lots of famous authors use ghost writers.
Hazel wrote: "What can you do about bad reviews ?"Not sure what you are asking. But there isn't much anyone can do about bad reviews. They exists and I try to weed out the honest ones from the bogus.
Hazel wrote: "Any thoughts on Ghost Writers ?"never gave it much thought. I know they are out there but I'm not familiar with any.

I have heard they are out there too, i just wonder what peoples thoughts are about them existing.

Oh well i think i may have gotten my first like negative comment so i just wanted to know how people deal with mean spirited people.
I think it's best to ignore them. No point in taking people like that to task, they'll probably just attack you.

I would ignore and delete the comments unless they are really bad and need to be flagged for whatever reason (inappropriate language, spamming, etc..)
If you reply they will just keep at you. In my opinion it's not worth getting into a major fight over.
Hazel,Was it a negative review of a book you wrote? If so, authors have to have thick skin. If you start taking reviewers to task because they share their honest opinion, you'll lose a lot of readers.
When I see authors bitching and complaining about reviewers, I cross those authors off my read list.
Just my own humble opinion.
I'm with UniquelyMoi. Develop a thicker skin and move on. Don't ever, EVER comment. EVER, no matter how badly you want to set this person straight. If you're going to put your work out there for review, remember not everyone is going to like it.As for Ghost Writers - James Patterson anyone?
Hazel, I just read the description of your book on Amazon, and you have a lot of grammatical and punctuation errors. Though I do appreciate that you wrote the entire thing with a wine bias.
I agree. Just ignore them. If you respond, you'll alienate other readers. I read one blog - the author responded to a four star review (which is pretty darn good, IMHO), and she took exception to the reviewer not interpreting a section of her book "correctly." Reading a book is a personal experience.
I've read that it's best to have a range of reviews from bad to good. In that way it looks more real as not everybody will like your book. When a book only has five stars then it looks like only friends of the authors are doing the reviews. So say thank you to those who give you a 1,and 2. They don't even realize that they are just giving your book authenticity.
A 3 is in between 4 and 5 are what authors would prefer
The best replies I've seen to bad reviews are the "I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, but thank you for taking a chance on my story." comments. That said, some reviewers don't like comments of any kind from the authors.
As a reviewer, I once had an author email me back to thank me for reviewing her book and explaining why she did something I had mentioned I hadn't really liked. Now, I always try to be respectful and I look for good and bad points in a book I didn't love. And I can say, I didn't really appreciate getting that email because I had mentioned a lot of things I did like about the book and yet the one semi-negative comment I made was jumped on.
Hazel wrote: "Any thoughts on Ghost Writers ?"I know that I probably read a lot of books written by ghost writers but once I know for a fact they are I tend to shy away from them a bit.
I used to read VC Andrews until she passed away and I won't touch the stuff coming out now because in my opinion they should be published under whoever is writing them now with a "based on VC Andrews" note or something on the cover. I don't know why it bothers me but it does.
Because VC Andrews has no input on those novels? They're not her ideas. I agree with you, the person writing that should make that note or something.
If they would have just finished out the trilogy that was being written at the time of death and stopped it wouldn't have bothered me but they keep publishing new ones.
Wow, there are a lot of books that have been created under VC Andrews after 1986... all the way up to 2013. I remember reading the Flowers in the Attic series and I think I started the Dark Angel Series but never finished. I didn't know they were still writing for her under a ghost writer.
Bad reviews? Ignore, ignore, ignore. It’s not often that an author can respond to a bad review and come out of it without losing fans and sales. You have to think of your book as a product – it’s going to get reviewed the same way computers and movies and cars are. When authors start kicking up a fuss it only creates a drama that paints them in a bad light.
Case in point: an author went ballistic over one of my reading status updates a fortnight ago. Now my review – which nobody would have even seen if she hadn’t commented – is the #1 rated review of her book and at the top of the book’s Goodreads page.
If you genuinely believe there’s a reason to have the review removed (the reviewer made nasty comments about the author’s appearance, for example), then report it to Goodreads.
I haven't been in this group much recently. Today is not a good day: our Ukrainian church was trashed by Russians overnight.People think about the situation with Vladimir Putin as something that's contained within a particular part of Europe. But we've been dealing with hired thugs here for months now. In Australia! It's really hard to not get mad and say things we can't take back.
Been reading the Infernal Devices & goimg crazy with excitement .. Yet when i started the final book in the Trilogy I got fever and it was so bad that the words were dancing infront of me that I had to drop the book down

Thank you Melissa ^^ i have and I finished the book today with bubbles of all sort of emotions haha ..
Melissa wrote: "Wow that is crazy... so sorry you this happened to your church."I'm not really religious, but in our community of immigrants the church is the heart of everything. To have people write things like, "burn in hell" all over the walls... I have relatives who were in the centre of the capital city in Ukraine when the snipers came out and started shooting people (and I saw it live on TV), but to have it happen in Australia - it is so personal and offensive.
At least it made national news headlines in Australia - so people here are learning how aggressive Vladimir Putin's regime is.

I'm going to delete the review soon. I don't want to make such a huge fuss and have my name attached to it... but I'm just really annoyed at authors who build up "Street Teams" of readers who spam the internet with five star reviews, and then attack anyone who doesn't like the book.
Its so good to be the older sister xD mother is not in the country so im bossing my sister about her outtings with friends !

Looked like they all ganged up on you. For that matter, I don't think criticizing a book with a proper reason is anywhere near to author bashing.
