Ann Noell (fantasyannie) does anyone have a Kendal? I'm thinking of getting one but not sure.

Do you mean the Kindle eReader?

message 156: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments I have a sony ereader and love it. But it's not the same as a book. I still prefer my books :)

message 157: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments Me too, Pamela! I love the feel of a book in my hands and the ability to lick the cover if the model is extremely sexy. I'd worry about damaging the screen if I tried that with an ereader.

message 158: by Ann (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) so you both prefer real books. I have friends that have the kindle and it is on sale at amazon and Target for $139.00. Just don't know if it is worth it?

Is anyone as sick and tried of TV as I am? I have DISH and pay about $60 a month and there is never anything good on and everything is a re-run. I'm about ready to get rid of the damn thing. I can always watch DVD, that way I know I'm getting my money worths!

message 159: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 414 comments I have a Sony e-reader and although I do miss the smell and the covers of the books, I now prefer e-books to the dtb version.
I will say, I have a harder time recalling a specific title - I don't see the cover with title and author each time I pick up the book so, while I remember the story line, I am less likely to recall the author and title.

That's why my library books are sticky! I'm going to start wearing gloves.

FYI - You can't download library books to a Kindle.

message 162: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) | 414 comments Have not tried it yet, but my library says you can download to Sony. will have to try it and let you know.
Prices are really dropping and it is definitely worth $139 imo. Be sure to do your homework and compare the Kindle, Sony and Nook to see which will work best for you.

Good thing I didn't tell you what else I do with them, isn't it? LOL

I know what you mean though. I've gotten library books with those plastic covers on them and brought them home and clorox wiped them. LOL

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments I haven't been doing much reading. My right shoulder is hurting me. Not like a major pain just aches. Anyway, I haven't wanted to hold a book because of it :(

I shouldn't be on here either but you can't keep me away!

message 165: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments I hope your shoulder feels better soon, Pamela!!! *hugs*

message 166: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments Thanks, Dhestiny. Hubby just called for a lunch date :) He's semi-retired but is getting a few days extra work at the post office doing custodian work. That will be great for Christmas. Plus I need a new office chair. The one that we think will work best for me is almost $300. I'm a larger woman and those cheap chairs don't work for me. Anyways, see ya'll later!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 146 comments I hope you feel better, Pamela.

I started doing yoga a couple of years ago, and it helps me so much with my various aches and pains. If I didn't do it, I'd be a pretzel. :)

message 168: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments I found a great office chair at Costco. It's sturdy, nicely padded, and has a seat big enough to accommodate my fanny and the "wide load" sign that goes with it!

message 169: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments I've actually though about yoga. We recently had a community center open in town and we got a membership. I try to go to the pool at least once a week. My mom goes to some water exercise class for arthitis. Anyway, I noticed a sign about yoga classes there. I'll have to check it out.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 146 comments LOL, Dhestiny!

Pamela, I bought a Wii last year, and the Wii Fit Game. It has paid for itself. It has yoga exercises on it. I also have several yoga DVDs. Once you learn the poses, you can do them throughout the day. I'm kind of shy about exercising in groups b/c I'm uncoordinated,so I haven't taken a bonafide class with other people. I bet you will get a lot of yoga.

message 171: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments lol! I don't know if they have any costcos around here. I'll check though.

message 172: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments My body is so messed up that anything I do hurts. But I've lost about 20 lbs in the past 3 months by eating better.

At home, I always take a double portion of veggies and eat those first, then the protein then the starch. When we're eating out, like fast food, I always get chicken salads or hamburgers, flame broiled, no mayo or cheese. It seems to be working! Maybe if I get enough weight off, I'll be able to move easier, with less pain.

message 173: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments My biggest problem is my allergies. I'm allergic to eggs and chicken. Well, all poultry, really. I can't eat turkey either. When I do eat chicken or turkey I suffer for it. Eggs are a true allergy though. I sneeze, itch and suffer horribly. I do agree about my eating better. I need to eat more fish and veggies.

That's a great way to eat what you want but to make sure you don't eat too much. I think I'll start doing the same thing Dhestiny. Usually veggies are the last to be eaten on my plate and I start with starch.

message 175: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments That's how I used to eat too, Carolyn. Potatoes and breads are my weeknesses... all starches! I started buying more fresh veggies that I like and eating them first. That starts me filling up. Then the protein, and lastly, I still get some starchy heaven, but in lesser quantity!

And I love baked potatoes, especially the skin. BUT, I love them slathered in butter and sour cream, so what I've started doing with those is that I scoop out half of the potato flesh and then I can still have a good bit of butter and sour cream on the skins and I'm saving about 1/2 because I'm not also having the same on the flesh of the potato. Make sense? LOL

And one thing I've noticed besides the weight loss is WHERE I'm losing it. In the past when I just cut out fat and sweets, I lose it on top. But when I started eating this way, I started losing it on my bottom first. I read that different people gain weight in different places based on what they eat. Maybe just a coincidence, but just yesterday my daughter commented that we need to take in the waist band on my pants. Several pair, in fact.

message 176: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm an apple and gain around my belly all the way to the back. It would be great to lose there.

I love the idea about the potatoes. I also love a LOT of butter on every bite so if I had half as many bites I'd still get the same taste. Great ideas Dhestiny! I need to lose another 20 lbs. so maybe this will work.

message 177: by Ann (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) A friend of mine just started yoga classes and she loves it, but I have had two hip replacement surgery and I just don't think I could do most of the poses. I also have arthritis in my back and ankles; I know I need to do something but I don't know what? I do know the one thing I can do is to start eating better, I'm all alone and hate to cook for just me so I just don't eat right or healthy.

message 178: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments Carolyn! LOL I always say I want a little potato with my butter and sour cream! LOL So see, it's the same for me, it's the whole butter/sour cream to potato ratio... and by having less potato and eating the skin which I love the most and is healthier for me too, I'm still getting what I like the best!

message 179: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments Ann, I know what you mean, but for me, I can't stand up long enough to cook. When I know I'm on my own, I'll have roast beef sandwiches. I love those with wheat bread! Roast beef, lettuce or alfalfa sprouts, tomato, a little mayo and pepper... sometimes some swiss cheese... those are my healthy standby meals. Also, I've added some of the Lean Cuisines to my freezer and if I've waited too long to eat and I'm starving, I nuke one of those really fast rather than eat things that would be far less good for me.

One my husband's patients is in his late 80s with arthritis and started taking Yoga at the senior center. He said it's really made a difference in his back pain (my husband's a chiropractor) and he doesn't need to come in as often. There's also the 30 ladies to 1 man ratio that he loves, but he said it really has made a difference.

message 181: by Ann (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) I'm not much of a red meat eater, about the only red meat I eat is hambuger and I don't eat that very offten. I like vegie sandwiches but my real problem is I hate to go to the grocery store lol.... I get there and I just don't know what to buy! Nothing looks good and I just walk around the store and most of the time buy cat food and popcorn lol.....

message 182: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments I've had that problem too, Ann. I've started making a list and sticking to it. I mean, I'd rather not have to be responsible for what I eat, but my body just doesn't work that way so I had to make changes, know what I mean?

message 183: by Ann (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) Yes, I do know what you mean, I have gained so much weight in the last year and all I do is sit on my butt all day at work and the same when I get home. I have high blood pressure and take meds for it, but I know if I just lost some weight it would go down and I could stop taking the pills. But what do I do; nothing! I'm old and tried and have just given up.

message 184: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments Back from my "date". Miss me? lol

I've basically given up on dieting but healthier eating is definitely something I want and need to do. Hubby is getting to a point where he wants to eat healthier too. But I also have a 10 yr old and getting her to eat is a pain. She is too picky. And she hates veggies. I can get her to eat some raw veggies like carrots, broccoli and tomatoes but little else. She's a potatoes gal. She'll go to KFC and from the buffet eat about 4 or 5 heaping helpings of mashed potatoes. And she is so skinny I let her.

message 185: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments Here's the thing about dieting. Most everyone will tell you it doesn't work because when you diet, it's temporary. It's making long lasting life changes you can live with that will work.

My husband, skinny bastard that he is, thinks being skinny means healthy. WRONG! You still have to eat the right foods to be healthy!!!

I have a son, Pamela, who sounds like your daughter, but his foods are chicken nuggets, peanut butter sandwiches, cheese pizza, steak, shake and bake pork chops, corn on the cob and bacon. That's it. Try to feed him anything else and he looks at you like you asked if you could microwave his penis.

message 186: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments lol. I know their taste buds will change with time, though. My daughter hates breaded food, but does like pizza sometimes. And she thinks she should eat weird stuff for breakfast like burritos or ramen noodles.

Just a few more shopping days! I'll probably do another "raffle" and will announce it the day after Christmas if I can remember to. (Feel free to remind me if I do!) I will draw on New Year's Day and mail hopefully on that Monday.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments No updates from Goodreads, again. This is getting really, really old.

I'll see my kids and grandkids Christmas day. Nothing fancy. My in-laws will be at my daughter's the next day, so my family (sans Moi) will be there.

message 191: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14527 comments I'll be going to my mom's. She lives next door lol. Not sure who all will be there. Possibly my sister and my step-nephew and his girl friend. So maybe 8 of us. We are doing the turkey this year and a few side dishes. My daughter wants to do fudge. Hubby's birthday is Christmas Eve and daughter wants to bake him a cake too.

message 192: by Melanie♥ (new)
