message 1701: by Melissa (new)

Melissa My kids go back on August 15th. It is a lot earlier this year than it was a few years ago, it was the end of August.

I remember when we were younger we started the end of August, but we went for like 2 days then we were out for Labor Day weekend. It worked out good because you got your books and stuff the first couple of days but the real "work" didn't start until after the Holiday. We always got out about the middle to end of May depending on how many snow days we had. But since there was no air conditioning if the temperature hit 100 degrees we got sent home!

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Completely off-subject, but I wanted to state: I'm babysitting for a friend, starving, and joined weight watchers a week ago. She has weird food.

message 1703: by Melissa (new)

Melissa What do you mean... weird food?

message 1704: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Like, loose pepperoni and marshmallow cereal and ... and... other things.

message 1705: by Giulia (new)

Giulia | 1756 comments Whipped cream?

message 1706: by Melissa (new)

Melissa eww marshmallow cereal, I don't get why they put marshmallows in cereal. Never been a fan.

message 1707: by Giulia (new)

Giulia | 1756 comments For kids probably?

message 1708: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments like Lucky Charms? Magically delicious ☺

message 1709: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) I'm with you Melissa. As a kid, I remember never really going for those cereals with marshmallows. Not sure why. Even now, I don't get cereals such as those.

message 1710: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Well, they are like dehydrated marshmallows, aren't they? Last I had them, which was decades ago. Maybe they've improved.

message 1711: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments My daughter loves Lucky Charms. I do to but I know I shouldn't. I should love all those wonderfully healthy things that nourish the body. Veggies, whole grains, stuff like that.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments **hee hee** I love cereal. Even oatmeal. I eat healthy ones, but I don't pass up Rice Krispies, especially Rick Krispie Treats!!

message 1713: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments been a long time since I made some of those ☺

message 1714: by Kari (new)

Kari | 1791 comments Those look really good, Lisa K!! Haven't had them in years. I like the healthy cereal too and I love Raisin Bran, wished they had them in Spain :(!

message 1715: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments I should totally make Rice Krispie treats today...

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 13013 comments We called them Rice bubbles in Australia but have a similar slice.

message 1717: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) I used to like Lucky Charms and another sugary marshmallow cereal as a kid, but can't eat them now. Just the thought turns my stomach. Not that big a fan of Rice Krispies or the treats anymore, either. Nowadays I usually either get oatmeal or Special K.

message 1718: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Now they have so many different types of Rick Krispie Treats! See this Pinterest board.

message 1719: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Krispie Overload!!!

message 1720: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments OMG! That's a lot of Rice Krispies!

message 1721: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) | 643 comments Thank you Lisa Kay for finding this board. I am shocked. I wonder if a man looking at the same board would have the thoughts we had?

message 1722: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) OMG that's a lot of Rice Krispies. Sending that link to my sister and niece.

message 1723: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Yes, and that isn't the only Rick Krispie board! Amazing what people have done to a simple, easy to make dessert.

LMBO, Sunny☼! Probably not. ☺

Sunny☼ (sunny2) | 643 comments I am finding these last days of August so melancholy. Summer soon to be over, school routines kicking in..a quiet sadness in the air... Anyone else?

message 1729: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Not really for me. I'm feeling a bit of relief that school is back. Keep having the ideas that I'll start doing this or that now that school is in session.

message 1730: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments OMG Yay for school and routine again! But I'm still feeling my way around, since my oldest started middle school and we're still getting used to our new schedule.

message 1731: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Sigh.... Has anyone else been experiencing difficulties maneuvering around the site in the past 18 hours or so? I had NO problems early yesterday afternoon, but since last night...nightmare! I can get into discussions, but I can't "add book/author" links, or hit "reply" to comment on something someone else has said (I have to C&P and/or use html). I cannot edit. I cannot click on ANYTHING in the sidebar, which means I can't update what I'm reading/have finished reading.

And, maybe most irritating, when I post messages it kicks me out of the discussion so that I have to backspace to see if it actually posted.

There was a similar problem back in June that took two days to fix. That time I could not access discussions at all, except through direct email links. I did send an email to support last night (even if I didn't get a reply back until almost a week after the problem last time around), and hope others have, too. It's irritating not being able to access other parts of the site.

Hmmm... no, Heather. But then, I just got on about 30 minutes ago. Maybe it is fixed now.

Listening to and reading... Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness

message 1733: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) | 643 comments That is a long book Lisa Kay, I like the idea of listening to it. I really enjoyed it. How are you liking it?

message 1734: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Loving it, Sunny☼, even better than the first. Fun to do it as a "buddy read."

message 1735: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Lisa Kay: Nope, not fixed, but I did just see a message in another group that GR will be down for maintenance for about 30 minutes late tonight.

message 1736: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Yes, I got a message from the J.D. Robb group.

Maybe it is the browser you're using?

message 1737: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments I had some problems but seems okay now.

message 1738: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Pamela: Yes, it seems to have been fixed since 5pm (CT). Yay! I was finally able to update books read and my challenge meter (now 6 books ahead!).

message 1739: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Oh, I gave up and took a nap. It was driving me batty.

message 1740: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Seems like I haven't been reading as much lately. I have been going to the pool and working out and doing other stuff so I haven't been on here as much either. But I miss everyone and will still try to get on here everyday.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 13013 comments Always great to "see" you, Pamela.

message 1742: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Tks, Lisa ☺

message 1743: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I haven't been reading as much lately, either. I've been watching T.V. I found this series entitled Bunheads that I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the series has been cancelled; however, the first season (18 episodes) is free on Amazon Prime.

message 1744: by Melissa (new)

Melissa There's been so much going on around here my reading time has been seriously impacted. I have a bunch of books stacked up that all look really good but I just can't seem to find the time for them. :(

message 1745: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments I know what you mean, Melissa!

message 1746: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) This week has officially begun all the season premieres of my shows, so that leaves little time for me to read during the evenings/nights. And that's not even counting my sports teams season starting which is soon.

I'm going to be soooo behind in my reading now. Lol

message 1747: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Leslie, I know your pain, LOL. While I can (sort of) read or work on crafts during a football game, I have read a lot less this week with all the season premieres. I have a major bone to pick with the writers, too. So far three of the five premieres I've seen have ended with "to be continued." For the first episode! So rude, lol!

message 1748: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Yes, I have a few shows I like to keep tabs of. Makes it hard on the reading.

message 1749: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) And I chose this of all weeks to start Oliver Twist, which is just over 500 pages. So far I'm only about 30% done. Ugh!
