Friends and I went to see the movie "42" today, about Jackie Robinson. It was AWESOME! A serious subject, but lots of humor and excellent casting. There were a couple lines of dialogue applauded by the audience during the movie, as well as applause at the end. Would love to see this again, and hope it receives a few Oscar noms come February. Watch the trailer
Monday, April 15 is Jackie Robinson Day. All MLB players will wear the number 42, and special ceremonies will be held before all games (April 16 for teams that have Monday off).
OOOHHHHH!!! I want to see that so bad, it hurts my insides! So glad you liked it, Heather! Now I have to see it! Thank you so much :)
Thanks, Heather. It's in my list.I read an article about how different people tried and tried to tell JR's story for a long time. His widow is still alive and the movie has her approval.
My top 3 favorite sports movies of all time1. Coach Carter
2.Remember the Titans
3.???? (Possibly 42)
My AP American History teacher is taking a group of kids to the movies on Thursday to see 42 (Which conveniently comes out while we are talking about the 40's, 50's and 60's) so I think I'm going to go. He took us to see Lincoln (which also conveniently came out while we were studying the Civil War) and paid for everyone's tickets!
Jordan - Wow, sounds like a good deal to me. I'd definitely sign on for a trip to the movie! I haven't seen Coach Carter, but love Remember the Titans. I could easily name a dozen more sports movies I like. The Blind Side was another one I really liked.

Not heavy into sports, but love Miracle, The Rookie, and Rudy!
Oh, Miracle is another good one. The Rookie was okay -- my sister and BIL were actually extras in stadium crowd shots, along with some of their college friends.
WOW Heather! That's awesome for them! And yes, my AP teacher is AMAZING! So lucky to have him at our school.Never seen miracle, but I think it's on netflix and I'm thinking about watching it. Blind Side is super good too, as is Rudy, but I tend to lean more towards full team movies, not just one player. Not sure why :)
Jordan ~ She said it was an interesting experience, but tiring. Apparently there was only a "small" crowd of people who stayed after the Cubs game that day for the filming, so they were constantly moved around the stadium to make the stands look fuller. One caution about Miracle: if you are easily prone to being motion sick, it may not be the film for you. One friend of mine got sick just from the fast puck/skating action in some scenes.
Another of my favorite "team" movies: Eight Men Out, about the 1919 "Black" Sox scandal.
I loved Miracle! Showed it to my kids recently, too. But then we has to watch the YouTube clip of History of the World when they say, "only a miracle can save us now."
Heather ~ OOOHHH Now I really want to see THAT movie! We learned about the black sox scandal in history and I bet it would be a great movie! My best friend is really into hockey so she has seen Mirace about a thousand times, so I think it is time for me to take a whack at it :) I might try it out this weekend, but I'm not sure, I have a lot of Sociology homework :/ Super excited to go see 42 tomorrow night though! Almost everyone in school that I have talked to is going (that is gonna be a BIG bill! Thank goodness for little schools, right?!)
Jordan ~ Hope you all enjoy "42!" Maybe you can reward yourself for getting some of that homework done with another movie? Insentives are always good that way. ;-D
Been up all night with thunderstorm and Tornado sirens. Weather is finally letting up and weather man says tornado warnings are over. Its 3 am, should be a fun day at work today!
And all your coworkers will be feeling the same way.Tornados and earthquakes scare me. At least you get a lot of warning time with hurricanes.
Melissa ~ Glad you came through the storms okay. We were supposed to have a state-wide tornado drill/weather service test this afternoon, but they postponed it until Friday due to the potential of severe storms today. So far only rain this morning.
It's raining pretty heavily here, but nothing like what you guys are describing! I love thunderstorms, though. Especially when I am going to bed and it's like background music! :D
What is up with all the words being links all of a sudden? I've accidently went to more sites I didn't want to go this morning than I can count!? I need to start watching my clicker!
I loved Gremlins! But yes, recently the internet browsers have been linking advertisements and sponser sites to random words on any site. That's what I've been told, at least. Either way it is really ANNOYING! :P
It happened on my website no long ago. I didn't sign up for it, but suddenly words were linked to sources I had nothing to do with. I didn't have a clue who to contact! They disappeared a few days later. Annoying and aggravating and I wondered what my readers thought. My site promotes my books and not cleaning supplies and the other stuff they were pushing.
