Anyone else being pummeled by snow? We are under a winter storm warning until noon Thursday, then a blizzard warning from noon into nightfall.
The snow started to fall about 9pm (CST) here, coming down nice and steady. Last I heard, the estimated total for my area is 12-20 inches by end of the day Thursday. Lucky me -- apparently I am in the heaviest snow band of this storm's path.
I'm afraid to check the weather again, seeing as they keep upping the total on us. 6am Monday it was "up to six inches possible." By the time I came home from work that night they had doubled it. Tonight it was 12-20, with 16 inches being most likely. Can't wait to see the view from my windows come morning!

Last update I heard, we have more than a foot of snow here. I tried watching the noon newscast for an update, but the high winds were affecting the signal so that I missed half of what was said. At least I sort of have TV -- digital customers are without service. As it is a heavy wet snow, there are a few outages around the city due to downed trees and power lines.
The building owners were here around 9am and cleared the driveway and sidewalks with a snowblower -- we've had so much snow since then that they are already covered again. I'm sure they will be back again tonight. Area bus service has been cancelled today, malls are closed, the UW cancelled exams and Madison College had to cancel their graduation ceremony scheduled for today. I was surprised only three of four carriers at the Dane County Airport had cancelled flights, considering visibility is only 1/4 to 1/2 mile.

Good Gravy Beans, Heather! Stay warm!
It has been cold here. I went out the other night and put plastic around my citrus trees. I noticed it blew down...so, I'll have to do it again. Maybe with tape this time.

OMG the end of the world is at hand..just kidding.

LOL! I remember that show.

After this summer's drought and a stingy autumn rainfall, we were at a precipitation deficit of just over 8 inches. Nothing like making up the difference in one fell swoop! Last I heard, our official snow total is between 15 and 18 inches.
No downed trees near me that I can see, though some of the pines are bent nearly in half under the weight of that wet, heavy snow. I did bundle up for all of ten minutes earlier this afternoon so I could step outside for a few photos. I even (briefly) considered walking a couple blocks, but then the wind gusted and I decided I'd rather curl up with a good movie (The Holiday), and make some no-bake cookies.
Area schools have already called off classes again for Friday. I couldn't believe that, even though the buses, malls and even most banks were all closed, and despite the governor and mayor telling people not to go out unless absolutely necessary, some area retailers (Target, Best Buy, Sears, Boston Store, etc.) were open this afternoon. I can't believe that a few
Granted, they did tell employees not to worry if they couldn't make it in, but safety should always come first and -- IMO -- if the governor tells people to stay off the streets, people should stay home unless they are first responders, hospital staff, or snow plowers. Crews are busy enough without having to worry about, and clean up after, unnecessary accidents.
Whether you are getting severe thunderstorms or heavy snow, I hope anyone else in this storm's path stays safe. Stay home where it is warm, unless you absolutely have to go out in it.

The winds are to hit us tonight. The temps are already dropping even more. The roads are at their worst...black ice covered with a layer of snow. It looks safe but isn't.
I am so happy to hear you came through it snug and warm in your home... Looks like winter is here and we will have our white Christmas.

Lisa Kay, that squirrel was cracking me up. He was huddled at the base of the tree and trash/recycling bins (he likes to forage) for the longest time, before he tried climbing back up the tree. He'd go a few inches, then cling for dear life with every gust of wind. At one point he turned around as though he were going to go back down, then turned again and slowly started to climb. He did eventually make it all the way up--and before the neighbor's dog caught sight of him!
I got home about 4:30 this evening and went for a short walk around the neighborhood, maybe walked a mile total. I wish I could have gotten out earlier in the day for a longer walk down to the Arboretum. It's amazing how fast it goes from dusk to full dark this time of year. It was a little chilly, yet invigorating. There were a few kids enjoying a nearby sledding hill, and I saw a couple snowmen, too.
Though a lot of pines are drooping or completely bowed over from the heavy snow, I only saw one damaged tree -- a branch had splintered and hung down so that it completely blocked the sidewalk. Luckily, it did not fall on a house or powerline. It was full dark by that time, and a bit of an inconvenience having to walk out in the busy street, but it was either that or trek through knee-deep snow. I prefer NOT having cold snow down the boots, even if I am wearing two pairs of socks. ;-)

LK: LOL...poor squirrel.
Pamela: Oh...so jealous. I really want to see The Hobbit, especially after recently rereading it.
Sun was shining when I left town this morning, though the weather was still rather chilly, only around 11F. Isn't much warmer in Northern Illinois. Was strange driving over the Rock River this time of year and seeing open water.
Sister and BIL only got about 6 inches of snow -- a third of what I got, but just enough for my niece to build a snowman. I was attacked by an almost 8-yr old monkey that clung to me a good five minutes as soon as I walked in the door. Best. Feeling. Ever. :-D We spent the afternoon baking cookies, and watched The Muppet Christmas Carol this evening.

Oh! You saw. You liked. ☺"
Yeah. I hate that we have to wait for the sequel though :(

I will be waiting for my daughter to get home from her Dad's at midnight. They are going to the Christmas Eve service at his church at 11:00. They have some kind of candlelighting thing they do.
while we wait my son and I are makng a Caramel-Pumpkin Mousse Tart and cheese ball to take to Grandma's for Christmas. If we can go tomorrow, depends on the weather. We supposed to be getting snow sometime tomorrow.
