That is really cool Darcy, my mom and I sometimes send cards and notes to each other through the mail to each other and we live in the same town. My daughter is starting to mail stuff to her grandmother as well, we have had a lot of fun sending everything from thought provoking articles to sloppy emotional cards to just silly little things.
Ugh, sorry school started and between my 3 AP classes, online college course volleyball and the four clubs I'm in (one I'm the president of, and another I'm secretary of) I have had NO time to get on goodreads. Okay, sorry, what are we talking about? Letters? When was the last time someone sent me an actual letter?! My grandma sent me one like 3 years ago, but she lives right down the street, so I don't think that counts :D
Haha, well then the last letter I got from anyone, (handwritten) was when my gramma sent me one. My Great-Grandma used to write me letters with my birthday cards :)
I agree with Pamela. All letters count! I get snail mail for my birthday and Chanukah, but that's about it.
With all this talk of letters, I think I will write some letters or cards this week and send them out to some people I haven't heard from in a while.
I agree, ANY letter or card counts, even if it's a note tucked into a lunch or briefcase, inside a borrowed book being returned, whatever. If it's handwritten it counts! : )
How about this one? It is a little risqué, so don't click on it if you might be offended. I saw it on Pinterest; I guess it is written on the wall. LOL!(view spoiler)["br"]>["br"]>

I do this! I put little notes in the kiddies lunch boxes or leave notes for my hubby if one of us is going out of town. Score!
Anyone know how to roast three little piggies at the same time? Our piggies keep getting out and I'm not happy. I'm not a farmer girl. This is not my scene. But no one is home but me and I get stuck rounding the little buggers up. GRRRR!!!!!
Ahh, Pamela that reminds me of when our dairy cows would break through the fence and eat and poop all over our lawn.... I feel your GRRRR...
I should take pics of what those pigs did to my yard. Its really bad. Great if I was planting a garden but I'm not.
Yeah, I grew up in Boston. And now I'm on the edge of farm country, but I'm on the inside. As I left my neighborhood the other day, there were deer across the street on one side of a fence (not the street side), just watching the cars go by.
Too funny, Abigail. I haven't seen any deer this summer, most likely due to the drought. The small creek that runs near the Arboretum has been completely dry since June, and the deer go where the water is. I have seen a few wild turkeys wandering the neighborhood, though. I don't know why, but the sight of them always makes me smile.
We get deer and turkeys on our land. We have about 12 acres. We get a lot of neighborhood dogs and cats too.
Abigail wrote: "I'd love to live where I could see more wildlife. Or more stars at night."Me, too, Abigail. Living in the city, I miss them. I love going home to where my parents live because there's no light pollution, and I always climb out of the car with my head leaned back, smiling up at all the stars.
Ahhh! Okay, I feel so out of loop! Okay, I live in a small town and agree with Jennifer. I love being able to look up and see stars and not have to fall asleep to the sounds of honking cars, albeit I am not a huge fan of the always-there silence :)
I was raised in the city but I do love living here in the country. Except for pig chasing, of course. ☺
I actually live in the city, but live near the UW Arboretum, Dunn's Marsh and a couple other nature preserves, so see quite a bit of wildlife (or at least signs of them). Aside from deer and turkeys we have fox, coyote, raccoons, at least three variety of hawks, pheasant, ground hogs, badgers...who knows what else. I love watching the hawks in flight, and once had one land a couple yards in front of when I was out walking.
The only thing I don't like is my neighbor has cows that he never locks up, and they always get in our yard. Once, at a football game (we live next to the school) the cows got out and came onto the field! Funnniest thing ever!
lol. I'm about 5 miles away from town but there is wildlife there too. Lots of deer and such. Don't know if the school ever had any problems with it though.
Down at our farm we see lots of wildlife, kangaroos, wombats and even the occasional cute little echidna (Aussie hedgehog). I guess you get used to your own country's wildlife, when I was in Canada a couple of years ago I was thrilled to see an elk off the road in Banff and a young black bear ambling alongside the highway near Jasper.
Mostly deer and turkeys and bunnies and box turtles around here. I rarely see anything else but I know they exist.
We see deer and hawks and all kinds of critters and stuff all the time. We got a feeder in the back yard where we put corn and they come up and eat, get chipmunks and groundhogs and rabbits and loads of birds too. Just this morning there was a doe and fawn there eating, only like 20-30 feet away from the kitchen window. It's neat. There's been black bear sightings reported in the newspaper too, I keep hoping I'll see one but I haven't yet. The best so far was the foxes denning under the old barn out back, a mama and babies. That was a couple years ago though. I wish I had one of those National Geographic quality digital cameras with super zoom and all that, I'd be taking some pictures!
We didn't have any squirrels in our yard for the longest and recently we've had a few move into our sassafras trees. I see a lot of hawks and other birds too. There are some eagles not far from here and I saw a nutria rat on the side of the road not long ago. We have moles in our yard but I don't see them unless our dog digs em up. We also have swans that come to a lake/pond not far from here. Lots of geese and ducks and such. Oh, and we got foxes and coyotes around here.
I wanted squirrels too! We've got 'em in the woods where there are oak trees, but in the yard is only maples and locus and pines and a few ornamentals. I tried to plant a couple oaks but they never grew, and now we're going to move anyway... Maybe our next place I'll get squirrels in the yard :)
We don't have squirrels in Australia. Similar are possums or bilbys - they are cute but make a mess of your garden eating all the new leaves and buds. And foxes are just a menace on the farm. I loved seeing squirrels in Central Park, NYC. i mentioned I get excited about seeing different overseas wildlife... LOL.
I love foxes... When we had chickens for a minute like 4 years ago, we lost some to 'em, and the coyotes too, but I didn't care, I still love the foxes and coyotes. :)
Cyottes, black bear, deer, wild turkeys, Osprey, Blue heron, fox, whistler swans, ducks, Canada Geese, squirrels, mink, beavers, gophers, muskrat all around our house and most of them go out of their way to come and poop on our lawn. But...I gladly pay the price for the priveledge of watching them. Did you know that Swans and Canada Geese are bitter enemies? If one is in the water the other is no where in site. They trade about.

Hi Melissa, Years ago I read a small book by Alexandra Stoddard called The Gift of a Letter. I've always loved writing letters and receiving them. I had my son late in my life and because of that I started saving all of the letters from my mother. She was ill for many years and I knew my son would probably not grow up with her in his life. So I saved her mail to me so I'd have a piece of her to share with my son other than stories and hearsay. It was important to me that he would be able to actually read her own words someday!
My mother-in-law is my son's only living grandparent and is still living. She's 92. I occasionally send her a note in a pretty card or a quick letter sharing news. It's important to her to receive mail and she loves getting it.
