Carol Dobson | 402 comments Hi everyone, The rest of Britain seems to be enjoying a heatwave, but not so much here in the southwest. It's very pleasant, though. Can't complain, although I did get caught in a rainstorm.

message 3152: by Jonel (new)

Jonel We're having our first sunny weekend in about a month. It seems to be nice while I'm at work, and raining when I'm not lately.

message 3153: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Carol, I hope Serena gets her game going. Everyone is wondering if she and her sister, Venus, will be at the finals. But I don't think so. Venus has been off her game for a long time since she got sick.

Come on Serena!!! I would love to see her and Sharapova play.

It's been storming here in Nashville for the longest. There's not much fireworks because of the thunder and rain. I wish California could get half the rain we are.

Thanks, Carol.

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Andy Murray won yesterday. I wish that man would have more of a smile on his face though.

message 3155: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Andy Murray's playing today. It always seems somewhat unfair and unsporting when the crowd is so much behind one of the players.

message 3156: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Don't let the British natives hear you say that. He's practically their idol. If he wins, they all win; if he doesn't, all of England seems to shut down and mourn.

message 3157: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Well, it's like USA being in the World Cup finals played in Canada. Much more of a home crowd for us than for Japan.

It's OK, I can say it because I'm British! My favorite is not Andy Murray, but Roger Federer. He looks lovely, plays so well and is always polite and friendly to everyone.

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments Sharon, that sounds nice. Not the batshtt crazy stuff, but spending time with hubby.

Lizzie (lizzierw) | 2533 comments Hi guys. Hows life been?.

message 3161: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Carol, I don't know why I thought you lived here in the US. And Wow, someone British who doesn't like Murray? Don't let the members on another forum hear you say that.

I don't like him either, but it looks as if he's going to make it to the finals. His game is so much better since he changed coaches. Of course, I'm rooting for Novak. It'll be a good final for us if he and Federer played in the finals, right?

Of course it would have been better if Monfils made it through.

message 3162: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Hi Groovy, It's not so much that I don't like him, as that I wish he would be more jolly and smiling. I also don't like the nationalistic fervor that gets expressed so much at these events. I am interested in the players for how they play and how they behave.

message 3163: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I agree with you wholeheartedly, Carol. I don't care if a player is from the US where I live, or the other end of the world, if I like the way they play tennis, and they're nice and entertaining, then that's my favorite. I don't like Serena because she's from my country, I like her because she's a good player.

With Murray it's like he's the golden child and everyone is rooting for him to represent the homeland and beat all the other countries. I made the mistake of saying I didn't care for him on another forum--that did not go well:) I apologized though.

Anyway, I still hope to see Federer (cause you like him) and Novak (my favorite) make it to the finals.

message 3164: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments There's also been an extra dimension to the crowd noise at Wimbledon this year because there is an Australian group called the Fanatics who have been very vocal and have, I believe, been booed by some of the rest of the crowd. I think they were supporting Heather Watson in her game against Serena.

message 3165: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Serena is my favorite woman player and I really hope she wins the tournament. I was very surprised Heather Watson came so close to beating her.

message 3166: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I wish I could have seen that play. Once they post it in Youtube after it's all over, I'll be able to. Were they rude to Serena while she played? I'm going to search for news footage on that.

It looks as if I'm going to have to get cable/satellite if I want to see tennis by this time next year. I really don't want to, but I'm missing a lot of good plays.

Is Sharapova, Federer, and Wawrinka still in the game?

message 3167: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I just learned that Wawrinka is out.

My daughter started her vacation today. Tomorrow we're going to see Jurassic World and stuff our faces:)

If you get to see any tennis tomorrow, Carol, enjoy it:)

message 3168: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Thanks Groovy. Enjoy Jurassic World and goodies.

message 3169: by Jonel (new)

Jonel Oh! I enjoyed Jurrasic World. Wasn't quite what I was expecting after all the hype, but was really good.

message 3170: by Melissa (new)

Melissa My kids and I went to watch Jurassic World for our family "outing" before my son left for Navy basic training. We really liked it.

message 3171: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee We enjoyed it, too. It wasn't what I was expecting either, but it entertained us. I guess the first two installments will always be my favorites directed by Steven Spielberg. You can tell the difference in his and this one. But all in all, it was fun. My favorite actors were the dinosaurs.

message 3172: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Carol, did you get to see the women's finals? I thought Serena and Muguraza played a really good game. But I'm sure we're not surprised who won. I like Muguraza and hope to see more of her.

Looking forward to the men's finals. Come on, Novak!

My daughter's on vacation and I'm more tired than when she's at work, but enjoying it:)

message 3173: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments No, didn't see Serena, but will watch Federer today.

message 3174: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Yaaay!!! Novak won. It was such a good match. They both played a great game. I'm so happy Novak won, though.

Well, Wimbledon's over. Thank you for keeping me company, Carol. I really enjoyed talking with you about the players and their game. Maybe we'll come back together when the US Open starts in August/September.

I'm sure we'll be talking to one another on other threads until then. Talk to you, later:)

message 3175: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Rather sad that Wimbledon's over, but have really enjoyed it. The game seems to have been transformed from how it was years ago, particularly the women's tennis.
Au 'voir, Groovy. Have a good summer.

message 3176: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Thank you, Carol, you too.

I just want to add that I hope everyone's summer is going well. Hope you're having fun:)

message 3177: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Have you heard the good news? McDonald's is serving breakfast all day now!!!! Yaaay!!!!

message 3178: by Lizzie (new)

Lizzie (lizzierw) | 2533 comments Haven't had Mac Ds in ages :lol.

message 3179: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments I went to a McDonalds for the first time quite recently. Wasn't at all impressed and won't go again.

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 2010 comments The egg mcmuffin is a breakfast staple if I'm not at home.

message 3183: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I absolutely am addicted to their sausage/egg McMuffin, and their McGriddles. I haven't had them in so long because I couldn't get there in time before they closed it down. Now? Dinner for a while will
be--guess what?:)

Aw, Carol, you won't even at least try the breakfast items?

message 3184: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Hi everyone, Husband doesn't like eating out, so we do it rarely. Was surprised when I visited son in the US last Autumn (Fall to some of you!) to find how large all the portions were on the plates, and then that a bag was offered to take the rest home. Have never come across that here. I kept over eating as it was always very tasty and I'm not used to leaving food on a plate!

Lizzie (lizzierw) | 2533 comments Just had a subway. It was nice.

message 3190: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Returned to Belgium again with the family and have now just come back to Torquay. It seems strange that they are not here in the house with us, but on the other hand it is very peaceful.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments BTW, has anyone tried "Hint" water? I just love the stuff. Zero calories and very refreshing. Love the "feel" on the water on my tongue, no just the hint of fruit. It costs too much, so I try and grab it on sale. And I savor it when I drink it, not just gulp it down.

message 3197: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Haven't tried it but I'd like to. I will look for it.

message 3198: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Congrats to auntie. Phoebe's a lovely and an unusual name.

message 3199: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 402 comments Have never heard of Hint water, but always drink mineral water, as I don't like the taste of chlorine in our tap water. I would prefer it to be in glass, not plastic bottles, but there's no choice on that.

Niagra Falls sounds like it would be a fun and gorgeous vacation spot!

My son is turning 9 on Monday, so I can imagine life is never boring at your house :D
