I just wanted to start a thread where we can talk about anything we want so here it is!

My 2 randomnesses are:

1. I finally picked up my books from the library: Empire of the Sun and I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell. The reference librarian was very helpful. He held the books for longer than they were supposed to because libraries don't have the best hours. They are only open late on Mondays and guess what? I have class! So he held them until Saturday (but due to the "snow storm" he held them a until Monday and my hubby went to pick them up.

2. Started Netflix and am very excited but now I need to know more great movies. Any suggestions? We saw Inglorious Basterds and it was awesome!!!! So help me out and give me some suggestions!

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey! We just started Netflix to and I've been meaning to add IB to the queue. I just watched Australia and loved it. W was worth watching, too.

That was nice of your librarian. And your hubby! My librarian is good like that, too and they are never open past 5pm but they do have a 10-2 opening on Saturday which is my best shot. Also, they have a fairly crappy book selection but I can order any book I want through inter-library so it really doesn't matter that much.

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
I will def check out those movies. THX!!!!

OUr library has total crap but I do inter-library too. You can also take out movies there too which is a hit-or-miss sorta thing. I heard recently that you could take out video games! I gotta get on that. We just got the Wii but why buy the games when you will just get bored with them farily quick!?!?

message 4: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments Donna, another place to go for games is gamefly. It's like netflix, but for games!! That's where I get a lot of my Wii games!
Inglorious Basterds rocked!!! I don't care that it wasn't close to history, i still loved it!

Random things... well, I'm sick today but I have to do a speech for class tomorrow so I'm gunna talk about the Tower of London!
I spent the morning watching Toddler's and Tiaras. I don't know what to think about little kids in pageants.

I'm awesoMEGAN! (missesmh) | 161 comments Inglorious Basterds was so awesome - I am actually gong to be buying because I enjoyed it so much

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

haha! I am sure I will like IB for who is in it, but I think my step-son has been hounding us to get it for so long because he wants to say bastards out loud without getting a "HEY!"

I'm awesoMEGAN! (missesmh) | 161 comments lol - that is awesome!

If I ever had a sucky expirence on the NYC subway today was the day.

OK I understand that it's snowing like mad out there, I am OK with that. Getting to work late is fine! I just widh that with all of those Transit workers hanging around the platform (at least 12 that I saw) you would think that at least one would say "hey, there is a singal proble. We are not going anywhere for awhile". NOPE got none of that!!!

Instead, what we got was waiting for an hour and a half on the train thinking it was gonna go somewhere!!! I mean really, there are other ways for us to get to work in the morning. At least make some sort of announcement so that we are aware that we are going to be late or we can find an alternate route!

I swear.....!!!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Donna, that sucks, but you did have a book with you....didn't you??? :)

And did you say snowing like mad? I live in Maine, let me repeat Maine and all of our snow is GONE. What is going on in the world?

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Aw, poo Aly I am sorry you are sick. How did the Tower of London speech go, did you recruit andy new Tudor history lovers? LOL

OMFG I love netflix!!! I joined way back when they first started, it's so awesome! Aly and I are friends on netflix so we can see each others movies watched, movies in the queue, and recommend movies to each other. If you guys want to buddy up with me on netflix here is a link for that:
http://www.netflix.com/BeMyFriend/P7i... or "invite" me to be friends via my e-mail address.

Aly, I found another movie called "Kings and Queens of England" and tried to send a note but I can't seem to figure out the new stupid format. Also found a movie about Juana de Castillea called "Mad Love"; just got it today and am excited to watch it.

I didn't even know you could make friends on Netflix! Another addiction???

message 16: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I've been a netflix addict since they first started and not many people knew about them. I mean seriously, no more frantic trips to the video store to get the rental in on time, netflix is just so easy; I can't believe no one thought of it sooner! I love the keep as long as you want feature, sometimes a movie will just sit there for weeks and sometimes it goes out in the post the next morning.

You can make top ten lists too Donna!

message 17: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
Love it!

I have been using it for almost a year now and I would never have found such good movies browsing in Blockbuster! I love it!!!

message 18: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I know the selection is killer, you can search by movies based on books too if you fool around with the big list of genre's.

I hated blockbuster, the late fees are out of control!

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Donna wrote: "Lol that's crazy!! I did have a book and now it's finished!!!"

That's a good book pusher, Donna. Always have a book, as you never know when you'll need one. I'm going to D.C. next week and will make sure I keep a book with me on the Metro. I've been in D.C. quite a bit and I like to see what other people are reading on the subway, too. It's quite encouraging to see how many people read there.

message 20: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments I wasn't sure where to post this message, so I decided on randomness. I just have to let you know, Donna, how much I love this group. I haven't belonged too long, but I think it is one of the best (if not the best) groups on goodreads. The people are so warm and friendly, and the topics are so interesting. You've done a great job (and in reading past posts, apparently with two kids in tow) with this group, Donna. I just wanted to offer kudos to you for providing me a wonderful place to discuss books and everything else.

message 21: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
AWW gee! Thank you! My focus was on something where it was friendly and small. I didn't want ppl to feel like they couldn't catch up with muliple threads. I also wanted to encourage ppl to start their own (in which many have done)

But thanks again and thank you for joining in making this a warm and friendly group!

message 23: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I bring a book with me everywhere, you never know when you'll be waiting around.

Kathy, if you are interested in the Tudor's or royalty in general you should check out "Tudor History Lovers" and "A History of Royals". Aly, Lyn, Wen, and I all belong to both. Just be prepared to have your TBR shelf get really out of control. LOL

Ah, I remember when this group first started and Donna invited me, I thought it was a great idea (and I still do!) to have more involvement from members and be in a more intimate setting. At first I was in TNBBC but it was too huge and I hated not having any say in group reads. I've not been back to TNBBC since EC was created even un-joined TNBBC.

message 24: by Donna, The Pusher (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
I am still a member of TNBCC for reasons that I don't know. I loved being a part of it and you are right it just got too huge and tha's what drove me to create this group because I wanted a lil something more inviting and intimate!

THX guys!! U R the best!

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments No, you are for creating this group! :D

I wanted to add for anyone with an ipod, if you get on itunes and type in "librivox" in the search (upper right corner) you can download a ton of free books and a lot of them are classics. They are read by volunteers, I loved Jane Eyre in particular. They also have a website, librivox.org

Thanks for the group suggestions, Colleen. I will check them out, although I'm not sure I need to join any groups right now that will make my TBR list grow anymore. LOL!

If you have the iPhone too! You can even get the Kindle on it not that I would use it but I like to know that it's there as well as my audio books.

These are the apps I have in regards to books playing/listening:
Audiobooks (audio)
Book Player (audio)
Stanza (read)
Kindle (read)

You mean the http://librivox.org/, right? I was talking about the "Tudor History Lovers" and "A History of Royals." Aren't those groups? I'm easily confused, so straighten me out here. LOL

message 30: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 300 comments Colleen, I cleared it up. As I should have done right off the bat, I looked the two up that were groups. Fantastic groups--I joined. Seeing that you are a moderator for both groups sealed the deal. I will try to start participating in the groups very soon. Thanks so much for steering me to them.

message 31: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments LOL Kathy, yes www.librivox.org is the website where you can get free audio books. Thanks for joining both! I have actually been with both groups since the beginning and I love them both. Lyn is also a moderator at AHoR and she does a really good job (if I do say so myself) keeping up since the group's spectrum of subjects on royalty is so broad.

OK here is another "randomness" - my library just informed me that it is going to be closed for 5 months!!! First that annoys me because of the obvisous, now I have to go out of my way to get my requested books (or at least I will be sending my hubby there!) and Second, in the summer they have toddler time and I was going to have my Manny (male nanny) to bring them there since my oldesy (Marley) loved it last year and the youngest (Vinni) would have loved it this year I was really looking forward to it but now....!!!!!

I just had to let it out!

OK so as you know my library is closed for 5 months. I am unable to get to the other one so I decided to switch boroughs. I live in Queens, NY and I work in Manhattan so I am now using that library which gives me something to do during lunhc!

Here's the kicker, at Queens Public I had 4 books on hold and the waiting list was huge so I decided to take them out (no use of having them there if the library is closed) and request them at NYPL guess what? They are all there and ready to be picked up.

I have never been so stressed on what to read! Check out my next five!!!! It's getting outta hand!

Oh, how wonderful, Donna! OK, I do realize, though, that it is very stressful when you have multiple books clamoring to be read all at once. My bed will soon be covered in such books. When hubby comes home, he will have to fight with them for space. LOL!

message 49: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 71 comments I had a sort of an idea - tell me what you all think... We should start a new thread each month for the book we are reading, and support each other on our reading that book. Like, Week 1 - Read pages 1 through 100 in a 400 page book, then we can monitor each other's progress and support each other while reading...

I think I need a little nudge once and a while to get me through the books I read. Anyway, it is just an idea!
