David Valentine | 1 comments I finished it too and it was good. I think that calling it old school King is right. The way it 'flows?' maybe, it does sound like some of the older novels that he had wrote. It had a good sence of tragidy, not to spoit it too much for those that haven't read it, but I think that might be the best moment in the book. That and some of the flashback scenes.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 665 comments I really enjoyed Blaze. It was really well done and reminded me a bit of Catcher in the Rye. It had the same kind of feel. I'm really glad he "found" it and released it!

Steve | 247 comments I just started this weekend. This is probably the ultimate Bachman novel...and it's no wonder that SK left it in the trunk for so long, it's a bit choppy in the read. It works best when the narrative takes Blaze's POV, I think...he really tried hard to get inside the thought processes of a damaged mind there. I am excited to find out how the kidnapping progresses!

Dan | 34 comments I just started reading Blaze this weekend too. I'm liking it so far. I've found its quite a laid back read, very easy to visualise. Which can only be a good sign.

Tim (Mole) The Gunslinger (Mole) | 128 comments I agree thought it was back to the old S.K but i think the reason is he wrote it years ago and dug it out and published i was quite fond of Clayton he was a warm and loving charachter

Heidi (sparkly3tchr) | 7 comments Ok, reading through your posts has inspired me to pick Blaze back up. I started it a few weeks ago and got through about 8 or 9 chapters. I sort of put the book down because it really hadn't hooked me yet. Last night I started reading it again and it is starting to grab my interest. Even when a SK book seems to start slow to me there is always some point when I suddenly realize I can't put it down. Now that the story is starting to go more into Clayton's past it is grabbing my interest. I agree he is a warm character. He seems very complex.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) | 665 comments I definitely felt bad for him. He's had a rough life.

Dan | 34 comments Finished reading Blaze. I really enjoyed it. A really laid back book to follow and visualise. There's some emotional moments in there too which caught me by surprise. It definitely adhered to the Bachman flavor of 'bleakness' anyway.

And so completes my reading of all the Richard Bachman books!

Also, in my paperback copy at the end there was a short story called 'Memory' that was the supposed original idea to Duma Key. Nice little extra.

Steve | 247 comments "Memory" was in the hardback, too. I didn't have time to read it...how does it differ from the Duma Key opening chapters (spoiler tags as needed...)

Dan | 34 comments I haven't read Duma Key yet, so unfortunately cannot say.

You're wise to have left it after reading Blaze though. I regretted reading it in the same sitting directly after finishing, as it just ruined the ending tone of Blaze.

Good short story though!

Kandice | 4388 comments Did anyone else pick up on Blaze using the word "Bool" to refer to getting his dime back when he was using the payphone to call for the ransom? I know I am in the minority, for loving Lisey's Story, but I would probably pay good money to know if this word was originally used, or added later.

I am just about finished listening to this on audio tape. My youngest son has listened to a bit with me, and has been very close to tears twice. We have a mentally handicapped niece he really hovers over, and this book really touches him.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 619 comments I just finished this one for the 2nd time. the first time was when it first came out, and in my excitement I just flew through it y'know? So I re-read it, and I loved it. Blaze was a great character, I felt for him, kinda wanted to help him out lol. This one has definitely moved up higher on my list of fave SKs.

James Peaton | 6 comments Blaze was awesome!! It reminded me of "Of Mice and Men". I loved how the story made you go back and forth, rooting for Blaze one moment, and Hoping he gets caught the next. Loved the flashbacks, and the irony. Three thumbs up!!!

I was just thinking of reading this for the second time.....fist pound :)

Matthew (funkygman007) | 199 comments I enjoyed Blaze a lot - very underrated!

Kandice | 4388 comments I enjoyed it as well. I think King even said this was his homage to Of Mice and Men. I always enjoy when you can root for and hope for the end of a character all at once. That's good writing.

Doreen Petersen | 252 comments I just finished reading this this morning and loved every bit of it. I know some didn't care for it as is their right but I thought it was great. Another Stephen King book that sucked me in and I just couldn't stop until I finished. To me that the sign of a magnificent writer.

Aymen Ben cheikh loved this book, the story is so sad, how a smart nice kid can turn into a criminal without even having the choice. King make us see things through his eyes and his damaged brain, and make us like the character and care about him.

I think the very saddest thing is that he was smart, but the one person who was supposed to care for him took that away. Pitiful

Some people think it's great. I thought it was pretty rough around the edges. But interesting for a book the Mr. King himself stuffed in a drawer and forgot about for a long time. He calls it a "trunk book."
