I live in Boise and have only been to the Portland store once but it is an amazing place. You can buy and sell with them online though.
OMG! I went to Powell's once while I was in Portland. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It was so awesome. Too bad I live on the East Coast!
Oh that's great you guys, yeah Powell's is such a fantastic place! Luckily I have a branch out here in Beaverton where I live so I don't have to go into downtown, but the downtown store is incredible! I do love getting down there a couple times a year! it is nice you can buy and sell online tho! You should def visit Portland Chandler it's a great place!
I found a site to swap book for book- you pay postage on books you send but nothing for books you receive- I have found many books I have looked for a long time; you can specify hardback or paperback, audio, etc. I really look forward to getting them in the mail; also Borders sends emails for coupons up to 2for1 or 46% off pre-ordered books

Amazon Marketplace is a great place to find, buy, sell used books. Plus, if you buy a book through Amazon Marketplace, they have a guarantee program where they will refund the cost of the book if for some reason there's a problem with the seller and the book they've sold you. Outside Amazon, there's a great search engine called addall.com that searches through Alibris, Abebooks, Amazon, Bilbio, and other book sites when you want to find a used or out-of-print book. You can limit your searches by price, too.
www.thriftbooks.com - great used books, many for only $3.95. But one of the best resources are the used book stores in libraries.
Here's another great new/used book site: Better World Books. They're a non-profit, and while they don't buy books they do take 'em - NaNoWriMo has a massive book drive going on for them through December 15. There's a NaNo thread on Goodreads - if you have books you can't get rid of otherwise, check out your region to see who's collecting!Oh, and Strand! I want to get to the brick-and-mortar store, but the website's pretty great.
I get a lot of books from http://www.enchantednotionsbooks.com a lot of their books are $2 or less. Plus the shipping is really cheap.
I moved last summer and had to thin down my library, (by about 800 books; choke, gasp, sputter!) And sold about 600 to Powell's. Nice to deal with and it was all I could do not to get store credit instead of cash!!!!!! But with Powell's (I'm from Oregon) Being there to buy is much more fun than shopping online!!!!!
I can recomend these two sites:http://www.wonderbk.com/
http://www.awesomebooks.com/
Sometimes you can also make good second hand deals on www.play.com
I can warmly recommend http://piranhas.co/ (but I'm far from impartial as I'm the creator of Piranhas).Piranhas searches through five Amazon country-specific stores (Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, etc) and the Book Depository to find the cheapest source for your books.
The site also does whatever currency conversions are necessary and includes shipping rates to your country in the comparison.
I've used abebooks.com to buy used/new books but I've never sold any on there and I'm not sure how lol
For those living in NY, there's this beautiful bookstorehttps://www.strandbooks.com/index.cfm
They also sell on line
http://papertownbooks.com has an excellent choice of new/used books at very low prices (50% or greater off on most titles). We add hundreds of titles each day/week. It is a new online bookstore. Check us out!

Having the name of the site as your username is a bit of a giveaway, as is writing your post in a style commonly used in spam marketing.

Very true, thanks.
Very true, thanks.
Amazon students is the right way to go... They have a special offer where you can enrolled free for 6 months. I have selled back a couple of books bought from the website itself and the profit margin can be more than 50% but sometimes up to 75% if you have a hard book to find. Here's the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/sign... Amazon prime is a bit cooler but unfortunately is $75 per year.
I just bought a dozen books from B&N at 50 to 80% off. Very good prices on a limited selection but I easily found books I wanted to read.
You can check out this site, it shows some websites where you can buy cheap books on:http://buycheapbooksnow.com/
It's nice and worth checking out.
You will always save 50% to 80% at our webiste on NEW and USED books. Also, we add books every day, so check back often. www.PapertownBooks.com
I love betterworldbooks.com. Not only are their books inexpensive, there is no shipping charges AND best of all, proceeds go to fighting world literacy!!! How much greater can it get? You're getting wonderful new books to read, at cheap prices, with no shipping and helping others in the process!! I love it!
I like thriftbooks.com or abebooks. It's a vendor there too if you want to go that route. Free shipping worked into prices
I've gotten some really good buys at www.Papertownbooks.com. They have some unusually hard to find books and fairly good selection of just about everything. I check out their site pretty regularly because they have a nice "just added" feature on the front page. I shop between them and Abebooks.
ebay I have sold a few books on there and will be selling more throughout the year and the near future.

Thanks Erin and TBV for recommended us. Keep checking back to our site regularly because we are in the process of adding thousands of books - a little every day.

Hey there, you should try buying books from amazon. I have some amazing books there, especially ebooks! http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=a...
I would recommend http://www.bonavendi.com/buy/b/Books..... I found out about it a few weeks ago and it is very useful for buying and selling used books.

Did some comparing. They should add us to their search engine because we beat most of their searched prices at Papertownbooks.com

thriftbooks.compaperbackswap.com (you can buy credits if you don't have books to swap)
www.alibris.com
www.abebooks.com
And, of course, Amazon.
I try not to deal with Ebay and Half.com if I can help it -- there are just too many mean and bad sellers on there, and Ebay has very poor customer service, in my experience.

I feel the same way about ebay, but half.com is completely different. It isn't an auction site and I haven't had any bad experiences. I really like finding deals there, personally.
We still have books for 50% to 80% off their cover price on all our common titles. Check us out and see at www.PaperTownBooks.com
I've been using Abebooks for awhile now and usually love it, but...As an annoyance, one of my orders from Abebooks came in and they sent me a wrong book. This is the second time that's happened. Not against Abebooks personally since it's not THEM sending it, and I do order a decent amount of books, but really, the statistics of this happening twice are poor.
Out of the last 39 orders, two have sent incorrect books. Not horrible, but not good either.
The first time it happened, I ended up just keeping the wrong book sent as it looked interesting anyway, and ordering a copy from another seller of the book I wanted.
THIS time it's supposed to be a fantasy series book and the seller sent me "The Fast Food Diet." I really don't want this diet book! I am going through the process of returning the book, but it's annoying. I had to do the contact link on Friday and havent heard anything yet. Have to wait for their response and approval and then I Have to return the book, and once they get it have to then get refund on shipping both ways and the book itself.
I understand the policy of returning merchandise for refund, but as none of this is my fault, it's not fair I have to get someone to go to the post office for me (I work during post office hours so have to ask my mom to do it) and reimburse them for the cost, and have all these delays for a few weeks to get the right book, because THEY messed up. Argh.

You didn't have the books I was looking for with a recent order but checked it out and the pricing is good for other books.

One of the large used booksellers on Amazon opened their own site. http://www.letthestoriesliveon.com. Looks like they price everything 50 cents lower there...and coupons are easily found on their Facebook page -- lots of savings!
