I'd like to point out that there is a difference between arithmetic (most of the examples given) and higher mathematics. I always enjoyed arithmetic and most geometry. I found variables and diff eq well, um, not enjoyable. So I stopped taking the classes when the next class up was Diff. Eq. or Probabilities.
