Oh good ... thank you. I'll be so sad when the series is done :( I've all of them so far and I think I'm going to re-read them!! I haven't been this crazy about a series ever!
After #10 comes out she has a contract for three more, but hasn't said that will be the end. And Lena, I'm nuts about this series, too, and have never been so nutso about books. I've read them all at least twice, and some of them three or four times.
Never Ever Ever have I been so hung up on books like this in my life! I watched the first season of True Blood and I knew it was based off of some books so I thought why not get the books to keep me busy until Season 2 comes out on TV?! I never thought I'd read books about vampires but it's so humorous I catch myself laughing out loud and saying Poor Sookie out loud!! One of them and I forget which one had me so sad! Oh I think it was the one with Quinn when she dumps him :( Poor Quinn!!
I got the first one, then the set 1-7, then bought some audio ones and even one on my iphone kindle! I logged on to HBO tonight and some the highlights of Season 2 and it looks great!!
I have no idea how I'm going to get thru waiting till May! Amazon has the next book pre-order for $12! I may end up buying the rest of the audio because my husband enjoyed the first one too.
Am reading the short stories right now; the ones in teh begining are just so so - but further in they're good. I'd be happy to swap it over if anyone wants it after I'm done.
Lena I mever thought I like books about vampires either but my friend got me hooked on the show then the books.
Dumb me - I'm reading the audio on the short stories sorry I can't share it after all. :(Jayme my husband is in to all kinds of movies so I eased up a bit on scary things I would never have watched anything like that before; Husband fears 2 things Sharks & Werewolves -- next season we get Werewolves! Mind you my husband is a Marine and now an Army Staff Sgt./Military Policeman! He's gonna be running in his sleep hahahaha.
Imagine a guy like that scared of werewolves :)
Hi all! New to goodreads! I can't believe that I had never heard of this site before! I love the Sookie novels/Show.
Hello everyone, my name is Lynne. I am from Ohio and I have read all the Sookie Stackhouse books including Dead and Gone and a collection of short stories called Wolfsbane and Mistletoe. I cannot get into the show Trublood, watched 4 episodes and I said No way! Its too different from the book, they changed stuff and made the plot seem foolish and ridiculous!I mean c'mon, hooking Tara and Sam up? And Sookie's brother, he is a little pipsqueak in the show. In the book he is handsome and a ladies man, but the guy in the show is a joke! I like Anna Paquin, always have. I am not sure she is really pulling off the "Sookie Stackhouse" charachter. I would not know tho since I stopped so early in the series.
I have always liked Vampire stories since I first read Carmilla in Catholic prep school at age 14. Not in a fanatical kind of way. I just liked the Victorian & medievel settings and occult lore. I supprises me how many people have read Sookie, and not read Dracula,Carmilla, or other classics. Sookie is basically just pulp fiction but I really love The Southern Vampire Mysteries. They are the only serial stories I really like. They have over flooded the market now with to much have assed movies & books that keep getting sillier, with less substance. I hope they don't just burn out the Vampire genre. Fewer but better thought out matterial is what they need. Vampires & werewolves are my occult favorites. They do not make up anywhere near the bulk of my literary interest. Ancient history is my personal fave. But I have always loved, and read Vampire stories.
Isn't Anna Paquin PERFECT for this role?!!!!
I thought she made a good Sookie.
Cary I grew up a Roman Catholic and my mother was/is terrified of vampires so we weren't allowed to watch anything like that. She told us that the church only allowed us to watch G ratings! HA! But I have to say I didn't allow my kids to watch scary things either -- but now! I guess I'm coming out of my 47 year old shell. My husband is a huge sci-fi/horror fan and so is my son in law - and I started just sitting in and listening as I cross stitched and thought what's so scary about that? Now mind you - if my husband was deployed I wouldn't sit and watch anything by myself! (Except True Blood!!)
I am roman Catholic too but I didn't let that stop me from reading what I wanted. My mom never questioned what I read.

I am not one to watch scary movies on TV. I didn't find Trueblood scary. My mom won't watch Trueblood. She thinks Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean is scary.
Movies just don't scare me anymore. But I do get excited. It's funny but I am not Catholic. I went to Cacia Hall a Catholic bording school taught by Augustinian Fathers for a few years in Tulsa, OK as a day student. We even had a Jewish kid in our class. It was an interesting expeirience. However I spent 11& 12th grade in a naturaly integrated inner city high school. I wanted to dress like a hippy and wear my hair long, LOL. Plus go to school with girls. I think Anna Paquin makes a pretty good Sookie. Thats so funy Lenna how you Mom put garlic around her bed. How fun she really got into the spirit of the show, LOL.
hi everyone.. I'm new here too! i used to discover books before they get turned into movies or tv series. but it was the other way around with Southern Vamp Mysteries. I must say, i liked the books better than the show. Wished that the writers for the show would do a better job with the scripts next season. Although Anna Paquin is a beautiful and talented actress, I must say the Sookie I had in mind with CH's description is definitely Scarlett Johansson. I'm team Eric all the way so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a happy ending with the Viking. LOL
I am glad I read the books first. Whatever you see first leaves the strongest impression. Like when I think of Sookie. I don't see Anna Paquin. I see the people made by my imagination. However they did come up with a really good Lafayette. Well its nice to know there are two more books for Harris to repair the damage she did in knocking of Claudine, and Tray. I am really wondering what crazyness will be in book 12. How will Sookie deal with the Supes with no Fairy God mother?
Wow, there is a thought, I think Scarlett would have made an excellent Sookie!! But I like Anna fine.I just finished the 6th book, introducing Quinn. I started reading after the show got me hooked. I am not big on vampire novels, not with the big Twilight craze and all the not so well written copy cats trying to cash in. But the Sookie novels started before all that, and they are much better. I never thought I would read about fairies and werewolves llike just any other characters. That is a good author, to make it all seem like a normal world. And I am glad the Tara in the show is more interesting than the one in the book. Looking forward to the introduction of Debbie Pelt next season.

kenna, I am from Chicago, and I am 33. I discovered Sookie about two years ago.
Hi Kenna. I'm from Connecticut most recently and suffice it to say that I'm old. Not too old to enjoy romance and adventure, though. I discovered Sookie through the TV series (not a good intro IMO) and only read the books during a lull because a good friend told me they are better than the show. Am I glad I did! I'm a little wacko and have three little dogs, three grandchildren, and a comfy place to live. :)
Hi! I'm from Colorado (for the past 4 years nearly at least) I started watching True Blood a few months ago and realized it was based on books.. I just read all the books in the past month and looove them.. ^_^ oh and I'm 27 ^_^
Jayme...were pretty close! I live in Lincoln...bout 20 Min north of springfield! Im 33 and got interested in the books when my children and hubby went on Easter break to his familys house in Missouri. I had to stay home and work for the assboss from hell and HBO had season 2 on the on demand list for the first 6 episodes. I was up untill God knows when watching those and got hooked since. After the shows, I read the books (the ones in paperback anyway)in a week and a half and hubby and I finished watching season two. He bought me season 1 for our anniversary and so here I am! I honestly dont remember how I found goodreads...I think it was one of those stumble upon things.
I'm Fiona and I live in Maryland. I'm 31. My husband made me watch True Blood and I loved it. I found out about the books and read the first one and thought it was just okay. Then months later I picked up the second one on a whim. Then I was hooked. I plowed through the rest of them in less than a month and it only took that long because the library didn't have all of them and I ended up just ordering them from Amazon. I have never been this attached to a book series before. I have also never read any fantasy or romance before, so it's just so weird that I am so in love with these books.
My friend got me hooked on Trueblood tv series then I started readung the books and I read them all 1-9 in two and a half months.I watched the series twice through before I read the books and after I read the books. I found Goodreads from word of mouth by a co worker of mine.

As far as I know, there are currently nine books, then "A Touch of Dead", and number ten in the series comes out in May.
I have "A Touch Of Dead" too. I loved it.
I'm Dana, 46 in Indiana. I watched the show first, then just finished the 6th book last week. Will be starting the next one in a few weeks.

I'm 34, live in Plainfield, IL. but lived all over the city of Chicago until I got married.
I like Chicago allot! I used to go to the Cabaret Metro there sometimes. My friend had a yacht at the club by Lakeshore Drive. We used to sail so far out into the Lake Michigan it looked like a tinker toy city. Jeez its teeming with Vamps in those old buildings,LOL.
I don't get to go to Chicago hardly ever. It's too hard to get there and I don't want to get lost.
I havent been to chicago in several years. Id like to visit the museums again though. and the aquarium. I havnt been there in about 5 or so years.
I don't like the aquarium but I love the museums.

I'm Kate. I am 33 and live near St. Louis. I've been reading Sookie for a couple years. I only saw the show for the first time after it came out on DVD. I was disappointed but I guess it is what it is. At least you get a good laugh (the accents) and the obvious eye candy. I think this group is hilarious and I check it every day!
Love the show and its ideas and the rockabilly soundtrack. What other show dares to show people smoking pot,poping pills, having sex, and just plain Vamping outon blood?! I read all the books before I saw season two of the show. I have only seen a couple episodes and all the recaps from season one. The show and book are two different entities. I want to pray with Sarah Newlin sooo bad. Save me babi I love it all.
Hiya, Im angie, im 28 and from New Jersey. I just recently got into the Sookie Audio books (i am up to From Dead to Worse). After reading (listening) to a few of the books i netflixed the TV Series. I am hooked to both, even my boyfriend enjoys watching the tv series.
Have your boyfriend read the books to you. Now that is a charge. It's lots of fun to have your wife or girl friend,BF read to you. Like a chapter a night at bedtime. Whoo hoo! OK I'll stop for today.
I just read another series that I liked, someone had it on their profile and I figured I'd read it while waiting for the next book and series 3. Kerrelyn Sparks - 6 books, vampire romance/mystery. I wish I remembered whose page I saw it on, I'd like to see what else that person has read. Save me time from hunting myself LOL
