Chelle (nwgrrl) | 7 comments Yep - I'm a convert. No overdue fees or water spots on the pages or dog-eared pages... and I read more than ever. :p

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I still read the regular old paper books. I own many of them. I think I personally own 200.

message 53: by Chelle (new)

Chelle (nwgrrl) | 7 comments Oh, I do, too. :)

Whether the portal is digital or print, I'll take it!

message 54: by Leah (new)

Leah (ling_ling) | 29 comments I haven't tried ebooks yet.. I've had people tell me that they never though they would like it and now they can't see going back back to regular books.. my fiance wants a kindle though so if he gets one I'm sure I'll try it.. ^_^

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) Isn't the printing small on a kindle?

message 56: by Lena (new)

Lena (chlngher) | 35 comments You can adjust the font size on the application for the iphone. I never ever thought I'd go digital.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I can't afford an iphone

message 58: by Lena (new)

Lena (chlngher) | 35 comments I couldn't either - I bought my son's off of him for $150. He bought the newest version of iphone hey I'm willing to take his stuff at a discount. It was only 1 year old!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I could pay down some credit cards for $150.00

Londa | 3 comments Hello all, I am Londa, I live in Indianapolis, IN, I have already pre ordered the next Sookie book and can't wait for it to come out.

message 61: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Reading on a computer is OK for short stories. I would have to have a lap top to do much internet reading. Even then the books I see now on the internet are mostly pop books. Read Varney the Vampire aka Feast of Blood on the web. The Varney short story Resurection of a Vampire so rocks.

message 62: by Lena (new)

Lena (chlngher) | 35 comments Hi all, another recommendation as I'm devouring the series at the moment. The author is Patricia Briggs and the Series is the Mercy Thompson one - although I hear the Alpha and Omega is just as good. The characters are wonderful and Mercy Thompson is awesome!

message 63: by Cary (last edited Feb 13, 2010 11:30AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) Why are all Vampire books series now days? I wish someone would write a really good stand alone Vampire book with real imagination, depth, and plot like Dracula. With that old world mystique.

I loove Patricia Briggs!

I know what you mean I would love a book like that.. the closest I'm thinking of is The Historian but thats also a bit different from books like Dracula..

message 66: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Some one else recomended The Historian to me. I should check it out. Carmilla is a good long short story that inspired Stoker to write Dracula. I own two copies of Carmilla & one of Dracula. Both of which I have read each year or so. I will find something hopefuly. There has to be something that was missed. Like The Mysterioius Stranger author unknown. I would really like to know who wrote that one. I bet there are all sorts of great folk stories about Vampires in Romania.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I would like to see a new spin on vampires. I mean who says that all have to dress in drab colors. I mean why can'yt they work in nightclubs or something. I know in the Sookie Stackhouse novels Eric owns Fangtasia. That's a bar niot necessarily a night club.

message 68: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) I love Sookie Stackhouse. It's the only Vampire series I like. I does have allot of imagination. The books are always fun to read. Vampire popularity started with Buffy, and reached a peak with TrueBlood. Definitly a great depiction of 21st century vamps. I liked the show Moonliht as well.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I am just saying they should do more like that. Take the vamp out of the dreary castle and put him in a nice condo in Seatle.

message 70: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) Well that's what they have done. I actually like the old architecture. Vampires like things that are old. I think a Vampire can live in a cool ancient house, and still haunt the big dance palaces in the Hillcrest district of San Diego for isnstance. One of the old Hollywood estates would make a perfect pad for a vampire to swoop down on Redeo Drive and Santa Monica Blvd from.

I Think Hamilton's Anita Blake series is so close to the Stackhouse series. I actually wondered if they worked together!
I really liked Jeanine Frost's series. I liked the combo of Bones and Cat.

I don't know if you've checked out The Historian yet but if you want a good stand alone vampire book it is really very good. Also if you like Stoker's Dracula you may want to check out Dracula: The Un-Dead- which was written from Stoker's own notes.

I saw that Dracula:Un-Dead at the store I didn't realize it was written off his notes.. I think I'll have to look into that one..

message 75: by Puck (new)

Puck (gentlepuck) I joined the group today. I read and watch the show. I am a huge Pam fan.
I am sure you will learn more about me in the future.

message 76: by Lena (new)

Lena (chlngher) | 35 comments Love Pam!! Her character is great and cracks me up!!

message 77: by ~~~Heather S.~~~ (new)

~~~Heather S.~~~ (heather796) Hi all, I'm 30 and live in the Detroit area, I wish our city was as cool as Chicago! I absolutely love this book series and the show (although I haven't seen Season 2 yet, waiting for it to come back on HBO on demand). I keep the books and the show separate so I don't get so upset when they don't match. I can't wait for Alcide and Quinn to appear on the show, but I'm team Eric all the way- he's so damn sexy! Oh, and I love Pam too!
I'm reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series now, it's nothing like the Sookie series, but it's just as addictive in my opinion!
message 78: by Lissa1229 (new)
Lissa1229 | 57 comments Heather- I agree... I'm not a Marissa fan and was disappointed with Lover Unbound, BUT can't wait for the next book!
message 79: by Kenna (new)
Kenna (kennas) WELCOME ALL NEW PEOPLES!!!!!
I have The Historian on my bed side table. Its been there for about 4 months now. I got maybe a chapter in before I gave up and went on to more exciting books.
I have only not read two books all the way through and refuse to finish so I will go back at some point and read it. I actually have about 5 started books laying around the house that I wasnt in the right mood to keep reading. Im on chapter 9 or so of Photographing Faeries and chapter 2 of Alaska. I started reading those over Thanksgiving. Its a good thing that I get the books that Im not sure about at the second hand shops.
message 82: by Diana (new)
Diana  | 18 comments Hi all, my name is Diana and I am a Sookie Stackhouse Chronicles-holic. Now that I have claimed it I can move on to step 2. I love the book and also think the casting was great when it came to Sookie, Eric, Pam, Sam, and her brother.
I also love the BDB and cant wait till Lover Mine comes out.
Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) What's BDB?
message 84: by Lissa1229 (new)
Lissa1229 | 57 comments Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. Started reading these after Dead and Gone because I needed a story with a little closure! LOL. Now I'm hooked on these too!
message 86: by Chasidy (new)
Chasidy | 22 comments OMG, Diana and Lissa, I LOVE BDB TOO! Tell me whose your fav? I'm stuck between Vishous, Butch, and Rhage. Rhage has top priority though. ;) Love those tootsie pops. Haha..
message 87: by Lissa1229 (new)
Lissa1229 | 57 comments I like V (so didn't like the Jane "thing"), I like Wrath's peaches speech, I like Z (man I cried like a baby), but yeah I like Rhage the best!
message 88: by Diana (new)
Diana  | 18 comments I love Rehvenge, then Zsadist, then V. I so hate the Jane thing also. I also like the Lords of the Underworld.
True Blood rocks. As does the Sookie Stackhouse series. So glad to have your guys/gals to chat with about the series!
I love reading your postings. I started this group soon after I started the books because not enough of my friends read the books. Although a lot of them now watch the show. I needed a venue for talking about both and I'm so glad you all joined!
message 91: by Wendy (new)
Wendy (wendysworld) | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is Wendy and I just LOVE the Sookie books! I started watching the show (True Blood) and couldn't wait until the next season, so I went out and bought the books. I love the books even more then the show!! Can't wait until May to read "Dead in the Family"!!!!! I recently got a Kindle, so the only bad side is I don't have them all in it......I'm sure I will re-buy them so I can have them handy :)
message 94: by Rachael (new)
Rachael (raybay) | 7 comments Hi everyone, pls feel free to call me ray, the only one who calls me rachael is my mum, lol. I am 27 and from Melbounre Australia. Found the telly series from a friend and was sick of the "to be continued" all the time so i went and purchased all the books. am loving them all so far & loving erics character in the books. he is ok in the series but i am hoping that they will be able to make his character better if they are able to do a fourth series (so fourth book) cos he really grows as a character after the memory issues he has. if anyone is interested in being friends to check out my online bookshelf feel free. i don't get online very often but when i do then i check all the new posts that i have missed in all the discussions.
jacky it would be interesting to find out what part of melbourne you are currently in. i was born and raised in st albans but am currently residing in wyndham vale (werribee). also if you like this type of series i think that you should try Keri Arthur's Riley Jensen Guardian Series as Riley is in melbourne as well and lives in sunshine. love it cos i know all the places in the books. have only read the first two but plan on reading the rest of them as soon as i can.
message 95: by Colette (new)
Colette | 15 comments Hey everyone! I'm Colette, 27, from Philadelphia, PA. I am so glad I found Goodreads and this group because I only have one coworker who is into this type of reading, and more recently I have gotten my sister hooked on the books too! I have read several series from Laurell K Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Rob Thurman, Richelle Mead, etc. They are all great but the Sookie books are still my absolute favorite!
message 96: by Kate (new)
Kate (kshiv) | 51 comments Welcome ladies! These books are the best and have opened up the doors for lots of other books series like the ones mentioned above.
message 97: by Laurel (new)
Laurel B (chicfitgeek) Stella from Canadda! I just joined the group.
I'm waiting on the library to send me my notice that Dead in the Family is ready for pick up!
I love the show too!
