Wow! Great review there, Marco!Like you I like The Alchemist,too...
I turned me into a loyal Coelho completist!
Right now I'm nearing the end of reading Coelho's The Pilgrimage...
What I realized in hindsight in reading The Pilgrimage is that it so meld with Coelho's humanist philosophy that it seems to me that I should've read The Pilgrimage first before The Alchemist...
I loved every moment reading both books and I'm glad many other appreciate how Coelho's book had an impact and affected our lives for the better...
the alchemist is coelho's best novel yet (for me!). but have you guys read revolutionary road? it's very unforgettable. though it had been made na into a film (the kate winslet and leo dicaprio starrer)iba pa rin talaga if you read the book. very "real" kasi yung story. hindi simpleng bagay yung dini-discuss sa plot. kasi if you analyze it, nailabas ni richard yates (the author of the book) yung real drama in an ordinary couple's life.
Yes, my take about Alchemist is that you have to read it like a poem. In most cases, the poem becomes more meaningful depending on your interpretation. Same is true with Alchemist. For me it is about finding what you are looking for inside of you - in your heart.May pera ba sa loob ng puso mo? har har har
The Alchemist is my 2nd favorite Paulo Coelho Book. Just a little below Veronika Decides to Die. VDD changes my life more than The Alchemist did. Actually, almost all Coelho novel is life changing. I just didn't like The Witch of Portobello cause its a little too self-righteous.

I'm just getting my head start reading Coelho's books... ^_^
Why can't I love The Alchemist? I tried By the River Piedra I sat Down and Wept and I liked it better than The Alchemist. Still, I couldn't say I'm a Coelho fan. Well, maybe it's just me.
As i said Lynai, "Literary beauty is in the eye of the beholder."What's good to others may not sound good for you.
So don't sweat it, madam.
And I respect your opinion on that, as much as I respect everyone's opinion on any a particular book, either it be genre fiction or literary fiction.
I agree, Jzhunagev! Lynai, not liking Coelho does not make your intelligence less than Marco. Har har har

Me like it...
Just kiddin, Marco..
Of course that was a terrific review. I wonder what grade your teacher gave you for the review.
Care to reveal it to us? Hahahaha!! :D
But of course, Marco is WAY smarter than me. I couldn't even finish one sensible paragraph for a book review. So what's the grade, Marco? :D
I have a serious question, guys. I've been a fan of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and I'm currently trying, as much as I can, to read some of its notable winners. So, here's the question: Do you think Paulo Coelho has the chance to win this prestigious award?
I think he have a chance being the very first author who expanded his fame up to the cyber world and he is the first to espouse file sharing of his books thus encouraging increasing book sales of his works.
So what's your take about this?
Do he have a chance even if it is a slim one?
I only read The Alchemist a few years ago and it was okay. I am not yet sure if Paulo with that novel (admittedly his most popular) is now in the same league as Gabriel Garcia Marquez 1982 (100 Years of Solitude), Ernest Hemingway 1954 (The Old Man and the Sea), Albert Camus 1957 (The Stranger), Saul Bellow 1976 (Herzhog), Gunter Grass 1999 (The Tin Drum) or J. M. Coetzee 2003 (Disgrace). I included their works (that I already read) which I think are their most popular. So, I tend to agree with James.
Hi! I just joined this group and I was wondering if I can create a new topic under "Discuss Your Favorite Books" about my favorite book? :) Thanks!
(continuing Marco's post...)Note to everyone that anyone else who want to create new topics also can :) if it's in the wrong place, the moderators will move it about...
AND SHOVE IT ON YOUR FACE!!
--only if it's a SPAM!-- :)
So keep it clean!
Sincerely yours,
your Assistant Moderator saying you play nicely with one another...
Tehheee!! ^_^
Hey guys I love The Alchemist it was my first Coelho book and I pick it up because my classmates are pushing me to read it since they were Coelho fans and all.So I pick it up and I thought it was really amazing. It motivates me to not give up and pursue all my dreams and aspirations.
I also love his Veronika Decides to Die and Zahir I love them but I rated them 4 stars because I find the ending disappointing.
I also read Brida, In The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept and The Devil and miss Prym I find them good but not that really great so I rated them 3 stars.
I also have read the Witch of Portobello but I only read up to 80% of the book I think since I just borrowed the book from the library and I need to return it but it was disappointing since it seems it was plotless.
What I really hate was the Valkyries I just read the first chapter and return it immediately from the library since I really find the first chapters boring and uninteresting.
sure. nut i rather create a thread for Palahniuk, Murakami, Bataille, Marquis de SAde, Anne Rice and many more... san po pwedeng mag-selfpromotion?

I admit we're a little bit slow when it comes to our group reads...
And so now...
I'm giving you, yeah that's right, YOU!, to post your favorite book you want to discuss here in the Filipino Groups and who might've guess somebody else have read it also!
Then here's your chance!
A few words of Instruction before you post your book discussions.
1. No multiple book discussion posting. If a book was past discussion in this folder, the moderators will make prompt action and delete the post and incorporate some of the posts there to the previous one.
2. Respect other readers. By that I mean giving someone who reads your post a fair warning if what he is reading has a spoiler. Yeah I know the feeling of being robbed of all the suspense by just reading a post, whether by incident or design, that contains a potential spoiler.
3. Other rules to follow and let's just all see how would all of this will turn up. If you've got any suggestions regarding further rules on the matter you may do so by just posting your questions, suggestion, comments, etc. below.
So guys, c'mon!
Post some of the book you want to discuss with other members.
Let's celebrate this passion we call reading...
And let's celebrate being a Filipino in the process..
Mabuhay kayong lahat!
Mabuhay ang mga Filipino!!
