J-Lynn Van Pelt | 118 comments Card has continues the Ender story beyond the seven sequels...

The Intergalactic Medicine Show is an online fantasy magazine that Card edits. It boasts a short story from the Enderverse in every issue. Each issue can be purchased for $2.50. www.intergalacticmedicineshow.com

Card's official website gives updates on the Battle Room Game being developed by Creation Entertainment and the long, long, long--rumored movie that combines Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow.

There are also two Enderverse novellas. First Meetings is a series of short stories with characters from Ender--including a story about his parent's gifted childhood. And War of Gifts came out at the end of last year. It takes place in battle school and focuses on religious intolerance and discrimination.

Has anyone read these? Any good?

Kristjan (booktroll) | 200 comments Well ... I have read Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon and Shadow Puppets; I have Shadow of the Giant on my to-do list. Ender's Shadow was decent and got an extra star by association, since it was retelling Ender's Game from a different perspective. There were several parts where it nearly stretch credulity too far; however, it did develop Bean into the character I could most identify with. The next two were fun to read, but they did not explore as much of the human condition as the first ... and the war strategies were fairly simplistic and always worked (yeah ... right).

Sarah | 10 comments I read First Meetings. I very much enjoyed the story of the origin of one of the main characters from the extended Ender series, Jane. I also enjoy occasionally stopping by hatrack for updates on whatever Card is working on.

Megan (meganmme) | 0 comments I just found an audiobook copy of War of Gifts at my local library. I'm going to try to give it a listen this week--I'll let you know my thoughts as soon as I finish.

Angie | 342 comments I have not read anything past it, but I am curious. I noticed that his books are out of order too. So you can go to Wikipedia and get the chronological order or the published order.

J-Lynn Van Pelt | 118 comments I read War of Gifts over Christmas and really liked it. The main character is new, but one of my favorite side characters, Dink, is in it. It deals with different extremes of religion, but has an overall message of tolerance.

I would recommend First Meetings, but if you haven't read all of the sequels, you will want to steer clear of a few of the short stories.

What's the seam going around the bald guy's face? (In the cartoon)

J-Lynn Van Pelt | 118 comments I hadn't noticed. Is he supposed to be wearing a deck helmet?

message 11: by Cairnraiser (new)

Cairnraiser | 53 comments It's not a bald guy, it's a mascot costume in the form of a beaver. The comic strip is actually pretty good and their book club (in the form of a sunday strip) has interesting suggestions with just a hint of the contents of the books, though mostly directed at the YA crowd.
