Adele Symonds (adelesymonds) | 10 comments Hi all,
I am not a new member but I am back!
I have had a sabbatical from life in general, but am now jumping back aboard the ship.
I probably won't be joining in any challenges for a while but I look forward to chatting with you all again and keeping tabs on how you are all doing.
Good to be back.

There's so many of us!;) Love it!

I like you am 41. I have a 20 year old son and a 12 year old son. I love this site to challenge myself and keep track of all my books. But reading really is an escape for me. It's the only time I can truly float away and relax.
We can conquer the romance novels together. :D

Jennifer, how's the Outlander series going for you?

Jennifer Garcia (jennifergarcia) | 5 comments CaroB wrote: "Welcome back Adele!

Jennifer, how's the Outlander series going for you?"

Well, I just started A Breath of Snow and Ashes and I have to say I have reservations. It's starting off interesting enough and I love the characters soooo much, but I'm weary of the same types of conflicts over and over. How many times can a family be raped or beat or jumped?
But the problem is they're addicting and once you start you can't stop. Plus I have a problem with reading reviews before I start the book to get spoilers, so I know the peaks and all I do is read, waiting for those things to happen. It's my own fault. LOL!

Too funny! I must admit, I read the reviews before I buy the books, but then will put the books on my TBR pile and wont even remember the reviews while I'm reading the story... but then I go back to read them before posting my own review to see who else got the same impressions I did about something. :-) This year was supposed to be my year to get back into Outlander, but it's running a little late on the starting line.

Chantilly White (Chantilly_White) | 4 comments Hi, everyone! I'm Chantilly, and I'm happy to be part of the group. I live in the Pacific Northwest, though I'm from California originally and loved the three years I spent in Wisconsin.

I've been on GR for a little while, but have only taken tiny baby steps into the groups. I'm mostly a lurker, but trying to move out of that shell a little bit, so I'll probably show up sporadically--a slew of posts at once, then nothing for days, then another slew. :) I'm TERRIBLE at challenges, but have lots of respect for the people who run with them!

Yikes, favorite author and book... such a hard question for a reader's group! LOL I adore Nora Roberts, but if I had to pick my favorite ever romance author it would have to be Kathleen E. Woodiwiss (her oldest books like Shanna and Ashes In the Wind; the newer ones just before she passed on were good but didn't grab me quite as much.) I also love Celeste de Blasis, Jude Devereaux, Johanna Lindsey (I'm probably dating myself a bit with this list...)

My favorite book(s) of all time, though, the ones I'd take with me on the desert island--the Harry Potter series. I'm the biggest HP nerd on the planet, ever. Lovelovelove. :)

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

All the best,
Chantilly

LOL, Susan! *covering eyes in shock* I'm sure you're not the only one. ;) If people are interested in them (adults) I usually recommend to read the first three in a row, and if they're not captivated by the end of the third, they are allowed to quit. Allowed! LOL I'm so bossy. That's why I'm the Headmistress of a virtual Hogwarts, so I can crack the virtual whip on all my underlings (read: fellow HP addicts.) :)

message 1065: by Christy (new)

Christy (christy77) | 2 comments Hi! I'm Christy from Texas. I have loved reading as long as I can remember and will read pretty much anything. My mom often reminds me that even as a child, I'd read the ketchup bottle at the dinner table just to have something to read.

I love all genres of books and still (at 35) will read most anything. On average, I can read about 3-4 books a week. Looking forward to the challenges and recommendations!

message 1071: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Welcome Christy! My mum used to complain that I would rather read the side of the cereal box at breakfast than eat the cereal :-) Now I have a daughter who is exactly the same, and I go between feeling proud that she is a bookworm, and frustrated that she doesn't get stuff done quickly, lol. Karma!
Look forward to chatting with you more on some of the other threads!

Wow, I can't possibly say that I have a favorite book because I have read so many awesome books; so I will say which is the first novel that got me hooked into reading. When I was in 6th grade I found "Beauty, A retelling of Beauty and the Beast" by Robin McKinley. Since then and because of that book, I have never stopped reading romance, fantasy and epic fantasy.

About a year after "Sorcerer's Stone" came out I started reading the series to my grandmother and son (at that time they were 89 and 6 years old). All of us cried when (view spoiler). It was definitely on of the best times of my life :)

message 1094: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments My ex and I remained good friends even after our divorce. We knew each other well, having been married for almost 25 years. Anyway, he got cancer and I was taking him on the long drive for chemo and radiation to Stanford Hospital and back. He really needed something to distract him from his aches and pains. He just didn't want to listen to anything I had on tape...until I put in Harry Potter. I had read them all two or three times, but he hadn't.

They really are magical.
