Hi. I'm Jamie and I'm new to Goodreads and this group. I'm not very tech savvy, but I hope to figure out how to navigate this site fairly quickly. As far as literature, I love some great literary stuff from days gone by, but mostly I enjoy quality romance (primarily contemporary and historical) and my favorite author within this genre is Lisa Kleypas. Picking one favorite book, well, that's just impossible.

Welcome Jamie! Do you prefer Lisa Kleypas's historicals or contemporaries? I've enjoyed both, but I prefer her historicals.

I didn't LOVE the 'mystical' aspect of the Friday Harbor series...but her character development and prose is always so perfect. I did love Sugar Daddy.
I enjoyed Sugar Daddy after I realized it was more chick lit than romance. I was confused at first LOL

CaroB wrote: "Welcome Jamie!! I've just gotten back into Lisa Kleypas' historicals recently, they're very good."Thanks for the welcome. I especially loved Leo Hathaway...and his sister Beatrice. And I love that her stories seem to have so much 'story' and not just a lot of noise separated by lusty love scenes...

Rachel wrote: "I really love the Wallflowers and the Hathaways!"Me, too! I loved the wallflower story with Sebastian (I can't think of her name...Evie?)....and I loved all the Hathaways...Leo was a hilarious and wonderful character.

Susan (susayq) wrote: "I enjoyed Sugar Daddy after I realized it was more chick lit than romance. I think she writes romance...but gives a meaty story and lots of character development to go with it (like Women's Fiction with strong romantic elements). That is why I like her. I get a little bored with the romance novel that is just a bunch of sex scenes strung together with fairly unrealistic plotting. Or that confuses lust with real love. But, sometimes I like those just fine, too! LOL

I did like Dream Lake (because I have a tendency to love the tormented hero type stories). The one about Lucy (fiance dumped her for her sister)...I had trouble with her mystical ability to 'transform' things into other things. I'm not much into 'fantasy'...so that didn't work so well for me. But generally, Lisa writes a compelling story and creates characters you can care about. And, with Lucy, I loved the way Lisa worked that sister relationship.

Hi! I'm Casey from Charlotte, NC. I have to choose a favorite book? OMG. I have a few I read every few months or so. Just re-read for the 100th time Catherine Coulter's The Sherbrooke Bride. I also have re-read Karen Robard's One Summer about 1 billion times. :) I write short stories, I read any romance I can get my hands on. :)

There is something to be said for someone who is an "iron man" - or woman, as the case may be. They may not always hit it out of the park, but they definitely make it to second or third base. Much better than being disappointed.

Hi, I'm Jackie from Flint, MI. My favorite author is Jennifer Crusie and my favorite book by her is Bet Me. I've also recently discovered Lisa Kleypas and am gobbling up her books as fast as I can. My favs by her (thus far) are the Wallflower series.

I can't remember the name of that one now. lol. I think it had a Highwayman in it.

Thanks for the warm welcome :) I enjoyed Agnes and the Hitman (especially her mental conversations with her therapist) but I do tend to prefer the ones that she wrote solo a little bit more.
Hi: My name is Nan and I just joined this group. Hope I'm doing this self-introduction is properly as it is my first time in a Goodreads group. I live in very Southern California. Read all kinds of genres. And my favorite author depends on what I’m reading or just read. Last month it was Howard Fast as I re-read his book, Freedom Road. Made me cry, again – I’ve read it five times. This month, in the last two weeks, in fact, it’s a newly released book, When Lilacs First In The Dooryard Bloom’d by M.W. Greenwood. And better than could say it, one review of the book said – and I heartily agree -- It’s a powerful contemporary romantic saga that explores complex relationships involving the heights and depths of love and hate, the dark side of psychotherapy, the triumphs and tragedy of a remarkable woman, the inevitable life, death and rebirth of an equally remarkable man. Worth reading. lots of fodder for discussion. I’m looking forward to talking about books with all of you. Nan.

Hi, Carol. Thanks for the welcome. Freedom Road is special. It says more, emotionally, about a tragic era in America’s history than all the other books about our Civil War, combined. And, in the end, it is a love story – a father’s unmatched love for his daughter. An eye-opener and tear-jerker that stays with you, forever.

Greenwood’s -- When Lilacs First In The Dooryard Bloom’ d – I found it and bought it on amazon.com. And in addition to the couple of really good reviews I read – and the story synopsis on Amazon and Goodreads -- the cover really intrigued me. Instead of the silhouette of a couple framed by a (cliché) heart, their profiles were contained in a Mobius Strip. A symbol about romance – and life -- which is at the heart of the story that I’ve never seen used before. Also a tear-jerker and eye-opener.
Hi, I'm Dani, I'm just getting to know Goodreads and the title Challenge-Impaired caught my eye. (Whaaaaa ?)
Hi, I'm Dani, I'm just getting to know Goodreads and the title Challenge-Impaired caught my eye. (Whaaaaa ?) I'm up to speed on what it means, I *wish* I was in especially as I really need to start setting myself some reading goals. I hope you'll do this again for 2013 and I am firmly committing to reading at least 2.013 books next year.
I like to set myself up for success ;o)
