Introduce Yourself Part Two
Hello! I'm Maddy and I first started reading JA when I was 14. I read Pride And Prejudice for a book report and didn't quite appreciate it as much as I do now, but I think it's become my favorite. (Though it is hard to choose just one.)
Welcome Maddy!& responding upthread - I'm another Mansfield Park fan & I hope we get to do a group read of it some day!
Andrea (Catsos Person) is a Compulsive eBook Hoarder wrote: "Carol I'm interested in a communal read of Mansfield Park. It's my favorite."That would be cool. P&P is my favourite but I'm fond of this one as well. I'm away part of March & a good chunk of June, but any other time would be fine.
Hi I'm Amy and I'm new to the group. I would also love to participate in a communal read of Mansfield Park, that book seems so undervalued!
Hi, I'm Sherrie and I am new to the group also. I read Pride and Prejudice as a young girl and then was re-introduced to Jane Austen when my son's had to read it for school. I decided to recently read P&P again and this time try my hand at fan fiction with my own version. It is nowhere as good as the original but then nothing will be better, just different. I would love to know what others are looking for in the new books.

Shapard. Maybe a group read after this version comes out? " the complete text of Austen’s own favorite novel with more than 2,300 annotations on facing pages, including:
● Explanations of historical context
● Citations from Austen’s life, letters, and other writings
● Definitions and clarifications
● Literary comments and analysis
● Maps of places in the novel
● An introduction, bibliography, and detailed chronology of events
● More than 225 informative illustrations
ps I have no connection to David Shapard, but I am looking forward to this edition.
Hi Sherrie! Welcome! Thank you Lona for the new book info!
Hi there! I have been lurking for a long time. I am not sure where to post this question, but thought this would work. Is there any chance of an upcoming group read of one of the original Austen novels? I see a lot of people recently looking at Mansfield Park... I have decided to reread all of her books in the next few months, and was wondering.
Ooh! An annotated Mansfield Park! When it comes to classics I'm usually resistant to buying them because they are available at the library or Project Gutenberg.
I my have to violate my rule and buy this annotated edition!
It doesn't sound if it lends itself to eBook format though (my preference).

I don't mind waiting for this edition to come out, but I will read the edition I own. :)

I believe there is an eBook copy coming out too. One of the delays in getting MP out is that he worked on an eBook P&P. Alas, I haven't seen the eBook P&P, nor have I seen any reviews.
BTW, Harvard Press came out with their annotated MP in Oct and I borrowed it from the PL last month. Alas, I found the annotations to be a bit of "thin gruel". At several key moments, there were no comments.
Hello! I am Emma! :)I love all things Jane Austen. I have read Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma. I am currently reading Persuasion. I am 15 so I am still trying to get through high school but I love reading so I try to make time for it! ❤️
Hello Emma! Happy reading! Welcome!
WELCOME, Emma!
Glad you are so appreciative of Austen at such a young age. Happy to have you with us!

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a die-hard-Jane Austen-fan must be in want of a Group!I am happy I have found my way here. :)
My name is Melinda, I am from Hungary and I have been a fan since I first read P&P when I was 14.
My favourite book is Emma, followed by P&P, Persuasion, S&S, Northanger Abbey & Mansfield Park. I re-read them all every year.
I am looking forward to great discussions with you all.
Hi all! I'm Joanna, and I have been a Jane Austen devotee since I was 13, when I read P&P for the first of many times. She is my favorite author. I am not sure how active I can be, but I look forward to discussing Austen in various fashions with other devotees.
Hi Joanna! We are going to have a reread of Mansfield Park pretty soon.
There has been lively discussion in two different threads of this book (though I didn't say much) and Sarah suggested another read of the book.

Thanks Andrea! I may try to join in on that. It is one I struggled with before.
Hi, all! I'm Devoney Looser. I admit that I started getting active on Goodreads when I became an author (http://makingjaneausten.com). I look forward to getting the hang of how discussions work and to being a part of the Austen fun here.
WELCOME, Joanna and Devoney!
We are happy to have you both here!
(Also, Devoney, I am looking forward to your talk at this year's JASNA AGM!)

Hello everyone, I'm Alisa from Chile. I've already read all the published works from Jane Austen and I'm currently re-reading them. I also participate in the Chilean group of Jane Austen, I can give you the link of our website if you are interested in getting to know what we do.
Hi! I'm See Min from Singapore. I just started getting into Jane Austen's novels not that long ago. I've read Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, started Emma and I loved it but I think it would have to wait till next month because EOYs are coming up :( Hoping to finish all of Jane Austen's novels by the end of this year! (2 month break coming up woohoo!)
Hi! I'm Mary, I'm 14, and I've only read Pride and Prejudice. However, I recently bought a large collection of Jane Austen novels and I plan to read half of them before the end of this year. Some of my favorite books of all time are: Jane Eyre, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, and I Will Always Write Back.
Hi Mary!I hope you enjoy JAs other novels as well.
After you read the rest, please let us know which are your favorites!
Hi, I joined this group only the other day. I've no idea why I haven't done so earlier because I adore Jane Austen's work. It's my comfort read or when I'm unsure what to read next or travel, I can always take one of her novels and I know I won't be bored.
Back in 1997 I was visiting family in the US and while I was waiting for my cousin, I chanced upon Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility in a bookstore and have never looked back. I reread the novels frequently. A few years ago I reread P&P five times in a row because I just felt like it. LOL! I guess you can undertand me.
WELCOME, Isabel!
Yes, we can definitely understand the desire to read Pride and Prejudice that often!

Welcome kindred spirit! I read all Austen's books consecutively every year, and never fail to enjoy every word.
Hello I’m Terrence.I studied JA at university a long time ago before anyone had discovered structuralism or even academic feminism. I’ve read and re-read her many times and there is always something new to delight in her.
My other favourite novelist is almost her exact opposite: Charles Dickens. On the other hand I’ve given up on Henry James (often thought as JA’s heir). I’m no fan of Charlotte Bronte either.
I was delighted as a teenager to read Northanger Abbey with its debunking of romantic clichés. I get irritated when Jane is called “romantic”. In the age of Keats and Shelley her favourite poet was Crabbe, for goodness’ sake.
O, and I’ve never seen a movie or TV adaption. I just like books.
Am I the only man here?
Hi, I'm NancyJ. I discovered Austin relatively late in life, when I was obsessed with classic movies. I saw Pride and Prejudice on TCM, and loved it. I suppose in my youth it seemed too old fashioned, and the focus on marriage offended my feminist sensibilities. Little did I know how much I would enjoy her books. I love when I see nods to Austen in other books or movies. Sanditon is the only one I didn't heard of until recently.Has everyone here been voting for Pride and Prejudice for the Great American Read? Fans of P&P, Outlander, Lord of the Rings, and even 50 Shades of Gray are pretty active on twitter as far as I can tell. FYI, PBS will only count tweets from accounts with at least 10 followers, so if you need a follower, let me know. @nancyjreader
Hi! My name is Zandi and I have been meaning to delve into some Jane Austen books. I’ve read “Pride and Prejudice” around 3 or 4 times and am ready to explore her other works :)
Welcome Zandi! How I envy you being able to read Jane Austen's wonderful words for the very first time.
Hello Zandi. Welcome - pity there are only six novels, but when you know them they are very different in tone despite the superficial similarities.
Hi, I'm Kathleen -- I've read Pride & Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey and plan to read Emma next. I love the Colin Firth P&P movie, as well as Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility -- Alan Rickman breaks my heart! Anyway I am really getting into Jane Austen now and look forward to learning from the group.
