Hey, Janeites!! I'm Maria and I'm from Portugal! I joined this group because Jane Austen is my favourite writer!I've finished reading Northanger Abbey today and now I've read all her novels (some of them several times xD)... I look forward to read her short stories and juvenilia as well!
My favourite novels are P&P and Emma!

I'm not sure if I've introduced myself before...I'm Jackie, I've been lurking on this group for several months, and I LOVE Jane Austen. I actually wrote my own P&P adaptation that I'm hoping to get published, I love it that much (I'm super original, I know) :) In any case, you all seem great and I am excited to discuss all things Jane!

Wow, other than the official GR groups, this is the biggest group I've joined on GR!I'm Carol & I'm a volunteer in New Zealand. I came to Austen when I was about 11. I was already a Georgette Heyer addict & I saw a very old adaptation of P&P on TV. It followed on (Heyer ->Austen) & I was hooked.
My favourite Austen is still P&P & the Colin Firth adaptation is my favourite adaptation of her work. I'm hoping to reread it at the end of this year.

I love finding people who love Austen like me. As many of your stories go... I have read all her novels. I am still drawn to Pride and Prejudice though.
I am so enthralled with the idea of hating someone first and loving them next that I wanted to write a novel like that. Not sure if it is a modern day P&P but people are loving it.
I love to see her stories come to life on the big screen as well though and would like to see some more newer additions released. It is Lizzy I so resonate with though. The opinionated, well-mannered (most of the time) girl who loves to go on long walks. And aren't we looking not for –Mr. Perfect– but Mr. I'll do whatever I can in my power to make you happy.

Like for many of you, Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen book. It might be because I see Anne Elliot as the least conceited character in her books. However, that is poor measuring rod for a book. The beauty of the Jane Austen books is that she takes us inside a variety of characters and let us experience what they think and feel. Some are well meaning, but snobby like Emma. Some are shy, introverted, but firm in their convictions like Fanny on Mansfield Park. You have the impulse and romantic Marianne in Sense and Sensibility. People are so very different and I get the feeling that Jane Austen picked different types of characters and developed them in her books.
I have read almost all of the Jane Austen books several times. I am working on Northanger Abbey and then I will have read them all. So I am a Jane Austen fan and I will likely read the books several more times.

Hello everyone! My name is Nora~ I'm 23 and currently going to school for English, and then Publishing/Editing with a specialization in children's/YA literature from there. I've been reading Jane Austen since I was about 11/12 years old. My personal favorite is Persuasion, though I have probably read P&P the most amount of times out of all of them. I've just always loved the amount of perspective into the societal obligations and gender roles that Jane explores for women throughout her novels, and the always present wit & humor at literally everything around them.
Outside of Austen, I am a huuuuge fan of fantasy (particularly fairytales/folktales/mythology), science-fiction, historical fiction, and contemporary. I'm always looking for recommendation so please feel free to send any titles my way (plus of course any Austen conversations you'd like to have as well~)

Hello everyone! I'm Giulia, I am seventeen and I live in Italy. I started reading the wonderful novels by Jane Austen when I was eleven and since then I have never stopped. I'm so glad that this group has so many fellow Austen's lovers! My favourite book is Pride and Prejudice, also because it was the first one that I've ever read. Close seconds are Northanger Abbey and Mansfield park. I'm looking forward to joining your discussions!

Hi, all. I've been reading JAFF in an increasingly compulsive manner starting around 2011. My GR bookshelf for jaff is up to over 750 now. I only joined GR less than a year ago and I'm still finding my way around.I've had several careers in my lifetime (I'm 61 and retired now) including teaching high school English for a few years. I've been happily married for almost 39 years, even though my dear husband has no interest in literature whatsoever so he obviously doesn't understand my obsession with Jane Austen and her wonderful characters. We live in Myrtle Beach, SC, USA, enjoying playing golf and performing music- he's a guitarist and I sing.
My profile photo is of me with our son from about 6 years ago. (He just turned 30--Yikes!)
Ciao Guilia! Did you read Jane Austen in English or in translation the first time? My dad can speak and read some Italian but the only Italian I know is the language of food and some bad words my grandmother tried hard not to let us understand (quickest way to learn the naughty words).

Hello! I'm Anna, I'm 16 and I'm from Italy. I'm a newbie to the Jane Austen world since I started to read her novels just two months ago thanks to my deskmate who is a big fan of Pride and Prejudice.I started with P&P and I fell in love with the characters, the regency era and most of all the irony that Jane Austen uses in P&P.
I'm currently reading Emma, and I already have Persuasion in my bookshelf, waiting to be read.

Hi, Austen lovers.Martin Rinehart here, experienced writer of software 'how-to' and first-time novelist (married romance).
A half dozen years ago, I pulled Pride and Prejudice from my wife's shelves. I must have been waiting for a game on TV or something. Thought it was 'chick lit.'
Today I'm quite hooked. Finished Mansfield Park (fourth or fifth time) yesterday and started P&P again (lost count). It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that everyone knows (and loves) the first sentence!
Now, if anyone can direct me to a discussion of the genre of P&P (it's a romance! Wikipedia's wrong!) I'd be happy to hear some opinions.

Glad to hear your enthusiasm for Jane! If you click on "Discussion Board" on the group's main page and scroll down to the topic "Jane's Books" there is a Pride and Prejudice thread there. Genre is probably discussed within it.

Welcome aboard Martin! Your story is a familiar one. I'm glad more men are stepping up and discovering Austen and how she is NOT "chick lit." I think the movies have done her a disservice in some ways.
Hey everyone! My name is Nina. I'm almost 15 years old so I suppose I'm one of the youngest here. My love for Jane Austen started when I read 'Pride and Prejudice' on summer vacation. To be honest I didn't like it at first read but second time I really enjoyed it. Mr. Darcy is my favourite literature character.

Mine are 33 with three children and almost 29 with a black Lab!
I dipped back into the Lady about two years ago...and it took another year before I found the courage (thank the 33 Year Old daughter-author) to start writing. I am still teaching history on the internet (3 colleges in Illinois) from the Seattle-area.
