Welcome Tatiana!

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 513 comments Hello, Austenians and Janeites, my name is Abigail and I am a lifelong fan (well, OK, since the age of 13). I signed up for Goodreads only today and joined this group immediately! I especially enjoy the more obscure corners of Austeniana--The Watsons (my thesis topic), the juvenilia. I can't wait for the Lady Susan movie! Look forward to chatting with you all.

Glad to have you with us and hope to hear from you often!

Alexandria (alexandriadaniels) Hello! My name is Alex and I'm 24 years old. I've been a fan of Jane Austen since I read Pride and Prejudice when I was in high school. I have since watched several film adaptations of her work and films about Austen's life. I hope to finish reading all of her novels someday. I'm currently reading Northanger Abbey and I'm loving it so far.

I've been on goodreads for a while now and once I saw this group I just had to join. I can't wait to have discussions about Austen with you guys.

WELCOME, Alex!

I'm glad you're loving Northanger Abbey-- it's one of my favorites. Looks like we will be reading Mansfield Park in September, so I hope you join us. Glad to have you here!

message 1258: by Alexandria (new)

Alexandria (alexandriadaniels) Thanks guys for the warm welcome. I look forward to reading Mansfield Park. If that's still the case by September, I will be sure to join you guys for that.

Vanja (sarahkane) | 2 comments Ugh. Greetings, everywhere around and to whoever might read this. I am a 23 year old female bookworm with almost an unhealty attraction to all things Austenian or Brontëan. Am looking forward to all kinds of talk here.

message 1260: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Sarah - we don't mind those kind of addictions here! Welcome!

WELCOME, Sarah!

Loving Austen or Bronte is far from unhealthy--and you've come to the place to do just that!

Glad to have you here!

message 1264: by Irene (new)

Irene | 3 comments Hi! I'm Irene. I'm 19, and I've loved Jane Austen since I first read Pride and Prejudice when I was about 13 or 14. Since then I've read all her works, and I really like all of them. (I think I might have read the books too many times is that is possible :P )

I recently got into reading books based on Austen's novels (and "sequels" for the books). Was really glad when I found this group on Goodreads, and I'm really looking forward to see discussions and other stuff related to Jane Austen here :)

message 1265: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Irene! Have a look around - there are lots of discussions going on!

WELCOME, Irene!

You've certainly found the right group and I hope you enjoy it here! Maybe you can join us for our group read of Mansfield Park starting on September 1st.

Glad to have you with us!

message 1267: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 513 comments Hi, Irene, you don't have to worry about reading them too many times! As you change over the course of your life, you'll find you notice different things in the novels and see the characters in a different light. A lifetime of pleasure.

Since you're interested in Austenesque novels (sequels and all), you might want to know that there is also an Austenesque group on Goodreads.

Mishana Khot (mishana_khot) | 2 comments Hello!
My name is Mishana and I love Jane Austen. I discovered her when I was about 14, and scrabbling about on a bookshelf for something new to read. I struggled to read her language then, because I'd been mostly reading books like The Famous Five until then, but I pegged away. I think it was just so delightful to find such sparkling wit between the covers of an ancient-looking book. I've been a convert ever since then, and re-read almost all her books every year.

I'm so looking forward to talking to all of you Jane fans. I'm going to be hanging around these boards fairly regularly now.

Sarah Ozcandarli | 12 comments Hi everybody! My name is Sarah. I was introduced to Jane Austen by my housemates in my last year of college and I am forever in their debt. My favorite of Jane Austen's novels is usually the one I've read most recently, which this summer is Mansfield Park. When I learned about its 200th birthday I did a quick google and found so much to learn!

I recently finished writing an Austenesque variation on Mansfield Park, and have started its sequel.

message 1275: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello Sarah! We have the same "problem" - last novel read is usually my favorite also! Welcome!

message 1283: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (lucy_lemon) | 3 comments Hi!

My name is Lucy, and I live in Wales. I've been a big fan of Jane ever since I read P&P - I was about 12 at the time. I finished it in the car with my parents, driving to Edinburgh and refused to get out until I'd read it all.

I'm currently trying to plan a trip to the Jane Austen house in Chawton, which kind of inspired me to check if there was an Austen group here. I should have known there would be!

message 1284: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Lucy! Welcome! My grandmother was from Wales. Glad you found us!

Lucy (lucy_lemon) | 3 comments Thanks for the welcome :-)

Whereabouts in Wales was your grandmother from Megan?

message 1288: by [deleted user] (new)

Penarth near Cardiff. She came USA in 1911 for a visit and met my grandfather and that was that!

message 1289: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (lucy_lemon) | 3 comments Oh that's so lovely :-) I'm up in the north, so quite far from there. Love Cardiff though! Have you ever visited?

message 1290: by [deleted user] (new)

Unfortunately no. On my bucket list!

message 1291: by Ceri (new)

Ceri | 68 comments I live in Cardiff and we go to Penarth quite often, it's a nice place. I have a view over the water to Penarth from my window in work too :)

Welcome (or should I say croeso) fellow Welshlady Lucy! I also want to go to Chawton, but it's a long way off for a day trip :(

RosatheBiblioEscapeArtist Hi, I'm Rosa. I am a 34 year old, (yikes how did that number happen??), wife and mama of two boys and one tough, but darling mama's girl. I also work part time in the OR of our local hospital in Oregon, USA. This is my first post ever on Goodreads. I have been wanting to join a book book club for a long time, however my schedule doesn't allow it, so this is perfect. I am new to Jane Austen having read P & P a year ago and fell in love with it. I am now starting Persuasion. I am a history geek, so my favorite genres are the classics and historical.

message 1294: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Rosa! Thanks for joining us. Let us know what you think as you read your way through Austen's novels.

Certainly a newbie to Goodreads and to this Group. Love Jane Austen discovered her thru Barnes & Noble classic book (very inexpensive) and I ended up picking up a Jane Austen novel (among others).

Jane Austen has become my favorite author. I love her style of writing, her incredible ability to create a character and how good she is at describing the relationships between characters.

I herald from the U.S. (Western Shore) in Washington State. Married for 19 years and turned 45. Love all things Jane Austen and my wife and I have seriously though of doing one of those Austen Balls.

message 1298: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Edward! Thanks for joining us. I recommend finding a Regency ball. They are great fun. Every year, the Jane Austen Society of North America holds one for their members who attend their annual meeting. Many people dress in period costume and it is just wonderful to watch!

My wife and I are thinking of doing one of those or maybe even do the yearly one in England held at Chatsworth House (Pemberly in the Knightley P&P).

You should! I've taken some English country dancing classes and it is SO much fun. Even if a person has 2 left feet, that style of dancing is so graceful and elegant!
